Jesus expands on the commandment against murder by saying anger and insults can also make one guilty. He explains that expressing anger unjustly or calling someone "fool" or "empty person" endangers one's soul. Jesus also emphasizes the importance of reconciliation - if a brother is offended by you, make things right with him before worshipping God, so that worship can be sincere. Finally, Jesus warns that failure to reconcile quickly could result in punishment like imprisonment, from which the only escape is impossible without accepting Jesus' payment for sins.
This document summarizes and analyzes Chapter 7 of the book of Romans. It discusses two main points: 1) The believer's relationship to the law, being freed from its curse but still obligated to obey it. 2) How Romans 7 describes the ongoing struggle between the believer's sinful and spiritual natures. The author argues that Romans 7 applies to all Christians as they continually battle indwelling sin. He provides numerous quotes from eminent Christians throughout history who expressed a deep sense of their own sinfulness and imperfection.
This document provides a critique of the book "The Lost Message of Jesus" by Steve Chalke. It summarizes Chalke's key assertions, including that God is primarily a God of love, Jesus was a social reformer, and the penal substitutionary view of the atonement is mistaken. The document then analyzes these assertions based on scripture. It argues that while God is love, he also possesses other attributes like justice. It also argues that Jesus' mission was not just social reform but also atonement for sin, and the penal substitutionary view is consistent with God's nature and man's sinful state according to scripture. The document aims to distinguish God's truth from Chalke's teachings based on
The document discusses the idea of "big sins" and "little sins" and argues that from God's perspective, all sins are equal as they are violations of His law. It provides several biblical examples to support this, such as lies and theft being sins regardless of scale. While legal systems may see degrees of crimes, God is concerned with the heart and whether one has disobeyed His commands. The document emphasizes that as Christians we must accept our sinfulness, have faith in Jesus for salvation from all sins, and consciously work to avoid sinning in any form.
The article discusses the importance and meaning of forgiveness. It explores saying "I forgive you", "I want to forgive you", and "You are forgiven". While wanting and professing to forgive is good, true forgiveness comes when the wrongdoer repents of their sins. Only God can remove guilt and punishment for sin, which occurs when we repent and obey His commands. The path to receiving forgiveness from God is to repent of sins and follow Christ.
God created Adam and Eve but warned them not to eat from the tree of knowledge. Adam disobeyed and brought sin and spiritual death to humanity. The law shows us our sin, and the penalty for sin is death. But God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross and take the punishment for our sins, so that all who believe in him will have eternal life rather than eternal death.
This is a study of Jesus being trampled underfoot and the consequences for those who do it. Treating the blood of Jesus as unholy will bring on severe judgment to those who do it.
The document discusses the topic of guilt from a Christian perspective. It makes three key points:
1) Feelings of guilt can be a blessing because they push us to seek forgiveness from God for our sins. However, some people sin so much that they become numb to feelings of guilt.
2) For Christians, the goal is to reach the kingdom of God, but sin prevents this. True repentance and turning to God in faith are needed to have sins wiped away.
3) When Christians feel guilty, they should confess their sins to God, ask Him to reveal any sins in their life, and remember that God has promised to forgive through the blood of Jesus Christ. False guilt from Satan can be

Why a God who IS love and HAS wrath is good newsVintage Church
1) The document discusses the nature of God's love and wrath according to various biblical authors and theologians.
2) There are differing views presented on whether God's wrath should be understood as literal anger or as a metaphor for the consequences of sin.
3) It is argued that based on the revelation of God through Jesus, God's love is an eternal aspect of God's character, while wrath is a occasional response to injustice and idolatry aimed at restoration, not punishment.
The document discusses the four identities mentioned in John 3:16. It states that the first is God, who loves the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son. The third identity is God's son, who was given by God as an undeserved gift to pay the price for humanity's sins. The fourth identity is "whosoever believes"; God wants everyone to have the opportunity to be saved through belief in his son.
The document discusses the concept of forgiveness from a biblical perspective. It defines forgiveness as releasing or dismissing charges against someone. It also defines unforgiveness as holding a grudge. It notes that true forgiveness requires obedience to God's command and is rewarded by Him, though it is difficult to do naturally. The document examines examples of forgiveness in both the Old and New Testaments. It discusses how Jesus taught his followers to turn the other cheek rather than seek retaliation when wronged.

The unforgiveable sin mark 3 - 22-30 - feb 17, 2013John Smith
The document is a summary and analysis of Mark 3:22-30 from the Bible about Jesus responding to accusations that he casts out demons by the power of Satan. It contains 3 main points:
1) Jesus calmly responds to the vicious accusation from scribes with reasoned responses showing how Satan cannot cast out Satan.
2) He issues a stern warning that all sins can be forgiven except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, the eternal sin of attributing the Holy Spirit's work to Satan.
3) The takeaway encourages anyone worried about this sin that their worry shows they have not committed it, and urges coming to Christ for forgiveness of all sins.
The sermon discusses Jesus' words to the repentant thief on the cross: "Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." It notes that Jesus, even while suffering immense pain on the cross, was able to comfort the thief and assure him of his salvation. The sermon emphasizes that Jesus' words promise immediate salvation and eternity with God after death, with no period of unconsciousness or uncertainty. It uses the story of the thief to illustrate that salvation is by God's grace through faith alone, not works, as even this dying criminal found forgiveness through repentance and faith in Jesus.
The document discusses several dimensions related to concepts of humanity from a biblical perspective, including:
1) Determinism vs. free choice - The Bible shows examples of both God's determination/planning and man's ability to choose, such as Moses' calling and Zacharias' disbelief.
2) Pessimism vs. optimism - The Bible presents an optimistic view through examples like Noah, Hannah, and Jacob who found hope in God despite difficulties.
3) Conscious vs. unconscious determinants of behavior - Believers make conscious choices to follow God while unbelievers act unconsciously in darkness without knowledge of God.
Sermon Slide Deck: "Licensed to Kill" (Romans 8:1,12-14)New City Church
This document is a sermon about mortifying or killing sin through the power of the Holy Spirit. It discusses how Moses chose to suffer with God's people rather than enjoy sin's fleeting pleasures. It quotes CS Lewis saying our desires are too weak rather than too strong. The sermon argues we must take sin seriously and aim to kill it at the heart by fighting for the infinite joy available through Christ. It encourages making war on sin rather than murmuring about failures and shortcomings. The overall message is that believers are licensed to kill sin through the Spirit so that they may know fullness of joy.
Who is responsible for our problems by dk ansahdkansah
This document discusses who is responsible for problems - God or humans. It argues that the idea of Satan or the devil causing problems and sin is incompatible with the Bible's teaching that God is all-powerful and sin originates from within humans due to their sinful nature. The words "Satan" and "devil" simply mean adversary or accuser and are used in the Bible to refer to humans opposing God or each other, not an evil supernatural being. God creates both good and evil/disasters, and uses problems, trials and adversaries to spiritually develop believers, so ultimate responsibility lies with God, not a devil figure. Humans are responsible for their own sins due to inherent sinfulness, not an
The document discusses the gospel message found throughout the Bible. It begins by noting the unity of the gospel across many books, languages, and centuries. It then explores key aspects of the gospel: that Jesus died to take away sins, that faith and action are required for salvation, and that baptism unites believers with Christ's death and resurrection, freeing them from sin. The gospel offers the free gift of eternal life through God's grace.
God is perfectly holy and just, and cannot tolerate sin. As sinners, humanity is separated from God and deserving of death. To solve this problem, satisfy his justice, and save humanity, God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross as the punishment for humanity's sins. By accepting Jesus' sacrifice, people can be reconciled to God and granted eternal life rather than facing eternal death for their sins.
This document discusses the sixth commandment "You shall not murder" from the Heidelberg Catechism. It explores what exactly is prohibited by this commandment, why God forbids murder, and the implications for how we should treat all people with dignity, respect, and compassion. Key points include that human life is sacred as it is created by God, murder is unlawfully taking a life as defined by Scripture, and Jesus calls us to love even our enemies instead of harboring anger or hatred towards others.
The document summarizes passages from Mark 3:20-30 about Jesus being accused of having an unclean spirit by religious leaders when he casts out demons. It discusses the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and says opinions must be grounded in clear scripture. It argues that suicide does not fit the category of unforgivable sin based on the scriptures and that one's relationship to Jesus determines their fate, not dying in perfection.

Jesus clarifies that adultery is not just the physical act, but occurs in the heart through lustful desires. He references commandments against adultery and passages in Proverbs emphasizing the need to avoid lustful thoughts. A story is given of a man seduced by a prostitute despite warnings, showing how powerful lust can be. Jesus advises drastic measures like cutting off body parts to avoid sin, meaning we must do whatever it takes to resist temptation. With God's help, lustful thoughts can be brought under control through prayer, faith, and putting on spiritual armor from Ephesians.

The document discusses why some men reject Christ based on an analysis of Matthew 8:16-22. It provides context on Jesus' miracles and healings. It then examines two main barriers that prevent men from following Christ: 1) The barrier of personal comforts, as exemplified by a scribe who wanted to follow Jesus but did not want to give up worldly comforts. 2) The barrier of personal riches, as shown through a man who wanted to follow Jesus but first bury his father, which was actually a reference to inheriting his father's estate. Both put worldly things above fully committing to follow Jesus.
This document discusses the key beliefs of Christianity according to the Bible. It describes how God created the world and humanity, but gave people freedom to choose whether to believe in Him. It explains how sin entered the world when people chose to rebel against God. It then discusses how Jesus Christ came to satisfy God's judgment of sin by dying on the cross as payment for sins. The document ends by explaining that people have a choice to accept God's forgiveness through faith in Jesus, which leads to eternal life, or reject it and remain spiritually dead in sin.
Jesus had a high view of scripture and did not come to abolish it but to fulfill it. He emphasized six key commands about murder, adultery, divorce, oaths, retaliation, and love for enemies. For each command, Jesus explained that outward obedience was not enough and that God looks at inward attitudes of the heart. True obedience requires surpassing what some teachers said and aiming for the perfection that God commands, which is impossible to attain alone.
The document summarizes five passages from Isaiah that describe aspects of Jesus' life and ministry as foretold by Isaiah:
1) Isaiah 42:1-9 - Jesus would bring justice and law to all, behaving humbly.
2) Isaiah 49:1-7 - Jesus' work of salvation would involve suffering and rejection.
3) Isaiah 50:4-9 - Jesus would be whipped, beaten, and humiliated but trust God to help him.
4) Isaiah 52:13-53:12 - Jesus would be exalted and humiliated, rejected as a man of sorrows who atones for sins through his death.
5) Isaiah 61:1-3
The world appears to be in a downward spiral of violence and war. Is there any hope for future generations? God provides the answer in the Bible - both short-term and long-term.
Christ explains that anger is as sinful as murder. Traditionally, only the act of murder was condemned, but Christ says the angry thoughts and feelings that precede murder make one equally guilty. To reconcile with others, we must forgive quickly instead of waiting for anger to grow. We should also recognize our own sinfulness and empathize with so-called "criminals," since we are all equally guilty in God's eyes. The implications are that we should introspect on our own faults before judging others and help others reconcile with Christ, just as we are trying to do.
The document discusses a passage from the Gospel of John where Jesus is slapped in the face by a Temple guard after being questioned by the high priest. It provides context about the event, noting that the guard did not realize he was slapping both the high priest and God. The document also includes commentary that the slap was one of the indignities Jesus suffered during his trial in order to redeem humanity, though those who inflicted the abuse did not understand they were mistreating the Son of God. It encourages readers to be thankful for God's forgiveness, patience, and grace as demonstrated through Jesus' willingness to suffer humiliation.
A presentation given at the Society of St. John Chrysostom-Western Region Light of the East Conference, 01-02 March 2013: Following Jesus: The Power of Forgiveness Theological, Psychological and Practical Suggestions for Growth Hosted by: St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church in Irvine, CA
The document discusses the doctrine of justification through faith in Jesus Christ. It provides several key observations about justification: 1) It is based solely on the blood of Jesus, not any righteousness within the person; 2) It declares a person righteous in God's sight, rather than making them inherently righteous; 3) It is an all-or-nothing status rather than a graded scale; 4) It goes beyond a mere pardon by satisfying justice through Christ's atoning sacrifice. Justification is received through faith alone as the instrument, and it is a permanent status rather than something that must be regained after sins.
Jesus teaches that taking vengeance and retaliation is against God's will. He provides examples to illustrate how his followers should respond with humility, generosity and forgiveness instead of enforcing personal rights. They should turn the other cheek when wronged, give more than required by law, go an extra mile when compelled, and give to those in need. This calls for dying to self and overcoming evil with good, as Jesus exemplified by forgiving those who crucified him.
This is a study of Jesus being right on time. He was late to see Lazarus before He died, but He was right on time to raise him from the dead. He was right on time in many situations.
This Sunday we hear the familiar Gospel of the woman who was caught in adultery and about to be stoned. Meanwhile the Scribes and the Pharisees, keepers of the Jewish Law, are not very happy with all the attention Jesus is getting, so they a lay trap for him. What does Christ do? Does he focus on the sin or the shame?
The insight to what this Gospel is really all about is broken open by a Jesuit working with the gangs in LA. See what I mean.
God is both good and just. Eternal punishment for sin is consistent with God's holy nature, as he cannot tolerate wickedness. Physical death separates the soul from the body, and spiritual death separates people from God. The Bible describes hell as eternal punishment and torment for those who die spiritually separated from God. However, through Jesus's sacrifice on the cross, salvation and reconciliation with God is available to all who have faith in him. Those who do not obey God and reject this salvation will face eternal punishment in hell.
1) The Master's Community Fellowship Church has consolidated its annual reports from 2012 to 2017 into one report to summarize activities over those six years.
2) A key focus has been developing an in-depth discipleship program covering 12 books that will take students through basic doctrines to more advanced topics over approximately 50 years.
3) The discipleship program has seen success with over 30 people passing the exam for Book 1 and now undertaking Book 2.
4) The church network consists of several congregations on Cebu Island with average total attendance of 250 people.
The document discusses the third principle of effective ministry laid out by Jesus - having a clear message. [1] Jesus told the apostles to preach that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand". [2] The kingdom of heaven can be understood in three ways: conversion, consecration, and Christ's glorious return. [3] However, many churches preach a diluted form of the gospel rather than clearly explaining that the gospel calls us to fully commit ourselves and become true disciples of Jesus by denying ourselves, taking up our cross, and following him completely.
The document discusses principles for effective ministry based on Jesus' instructions to the apostles in Matthew 10:5-15. It outlines that disciples must (1) have a divine commission from God, (2) have a central objective or focus for their ministry work, and (3) understand the basic task of ministry is preaching the gospel. The passage specifically discusses how Jesus instructed the apostles to focus initially on the lost sheep of Israel, though the message was ultimately meant for all people.
Judas Iscariot was one of Jesus's twelve apostles who is infamous for betraying Jesus. Some key points:
1) Judas' name means "Yahweh leads" but he did not live up to his name, instead becoming history's greatest betrayer.
2) Jesus intentionally chose Judas to fulfill prophecies of betrayal, though Judas made his own choice to betray Jesus out of greed and a rejection of Jesus's teachings.
3) Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, identifying him with a kiss. Afterward, Judas felt remorse but hanged himself instead of repenting to God.
4) Judas provides a lesson about wasted opportunities
The document provides biographical information about three lesser known apostles: James son of Alpheus, Thaddeus, and Simon the Zealot. For each apostle, it discusses their possible family relationships and former occupations, and notes that little is known about them from scripture. It concludes each section by summarizing traditions about where each apostle preached and how they ultimately achieved martyrdom for their faith.
This document provides biographical details about two of Jesus' apostles, Thomas and Matthew. It discusses Thomas' reputation as a doubter but describes instances from the gospels that show his great faith and dedication to Jesus, even when in danger. It notes Matthew's former career as a tax collector and the stigma around that profession, but highlights how he immediately followed Jesus' call and wrote the first gospel to spread the message. Both apostles are believed to have been martyred while preaching the gospel in other lands.
Andrew, James, and John were three of Jesus' twelve apostles. Andrew was known as a humble apostle who brought others to Jesus. James was passionate and zealous, asking to call fire on unbelievers. He was the first apostle martyred. John was initially as zealous as his brother James but matured to become known as the apostle of love through his Gospel and letters. All three played important roles in establishing the early Church despite coming from ordinary backgrounds.
This document provides details about the apostle Simon Peter based on biblical accounts. It discusses Peter's background as a fisherman from Bethsaida and married man. It examines how Jesus transformed Peter into the leader of the apostles by giving him the right experiences like revelations and rebukes, and teaching him the right attitudes like humility, sacrifice, courage and love. The document concludes that Peter slowly but fully learned the lessons Jesus taught him to become a key early leader in spreading the gospel message.
The document provides background information on Jesus commissioning his twelve disciples as described in Matthew 10:1-4. It discusses how Jesus summoned the disciples to officially commission them for ministry. It describes the four phases of training Jesus provided to prepare the disciples, including their initial conversion and calling, living with Jesus for three years, and being sent out after his resurrection. The document also notes the disciples' human weaknesses but how God used them mightily. It summarizes that Jesus granted the disciples authority over unclean spirits and to heal every kind of disease, matching the power and kingdom work Jesus demonstrated.
This document discusses Jesus' choosing of the twelve apostles to help spread the gospel. It examines the list of names provided in Matthew 10:1-4, noting some key things. Peter is always listed first, suggesting he held the foremost rank among the apostles as their leader. The lists divide the apostles into three groups that are always in the same order. The document then provides some background on each individual apostle, noting their different temperaments and occupations. It examines how they worked together during the early days of the church.
Jesus saw the crowds as distressed and without guidance like lost sheep. He felt compassion for their spiritually battered and helpless condition. While the harvest of lost souls was plentiful, the workers were few. Jesus' method was to instruct His disciples to pray to God to send more workers into the spiritual harvest field to minister to the lost crowds and prevent them from facing coming judgment unprepared.
Jesus heals two blind men who cry out to him for mercy. When Jesus questions their faith, they affirm their belief in him. He then heals their blindness, saying it was done according to their faith. Jesus sternly commands them not to tell anyone about the healing, but they disobey and spread the news throughout the land. They then bring another man to Jesus who is both deaf and mute, and Jesus heals him as well. The passage demonstrates Jesus' power to heal physical ailments and restore people's spiritual sight through faith in him.
Jesus demonstrated his power over death through two miracles. When Jairus, a synagogue leader, asked Jesus to heal his daughter who had died, Jesus went with him and raised the girl back to life. On the way, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for 12 years touched Jesus' cloak, believing it would heal her. Jesus turned to her and said her faith had healed her. He then entered Jairus' house where mourners were wailing and raised the girl from the dead, showing his power even over death.
Jesus responds to criticism from John the Baptist's disciples and the Pharisees about his disciples not fasting. He gives three illustrations: [1] His disciples are like wedding attendees who do not mourn while the bridegroom is present. [2] Patching old cloth with new cloth pulls away from the garment. [3] New wine put in old wineskins causes the skins to burst. Jesus is establishing a new way that cannot be reconciled with old traditions and rituals focused on outward displays of righteousness.
The Pharisees criticized Jesus for eating with tax collectors and sinners. In response, Jesus gave three arguments: [1] He analogized that just as doctors help the sick, he came to help sinners who recognize their need. [2] He cited scripture saying God desires mercy over sacrifice. [3] He said he came to call sinners, not the self-righteous, because only sinners acknowledge their need for salvation.
This document provides context and analysis of Matthew 9:9-17, which describes Jesus calling Matthew, a tax collector, to follow him. It describes how tax collectors like Matthew were deeply despised by Jews for collaborating with the Roman occupation. When Jesus calls Matthew, he immediately leaves his post to follow Jesus. Matthew then hosts a banquet with Jesus for his fellow tax collectors and other "sinners." While the Pharisees were offended that Jesus associated with such people, this event demonstrated Matthew's sincere faith and willingness to share the gospel with others.
Jesus healed a paralyzed man to demonstrate his power to forgive sins. When religious teachers accused Jesus of blasphemy for claiming to forgive sins, Jesus healed the paralyzed man to prove he had power on earth to forgive sins. The man arose, picked up his mat, and went home. The crowds who witnessed this were filled with awe and praised God for giving Jesus such power.
Jesus encounters two demon-possessed men who recognize Him as the Son of God. The demons beg Jesus not to torment them before their appointed time and request to enter a nearby herd of pigs. Jesus commands the demons to leave the men and enter the pigs, causing the herd to violently drown themselves in a sea. The townspeople, alarmed by the loss of pigs, ask Jesus to leave their region.
Jesus and his disciples were traveling by boat on the Sea of Galilee when a great storm arose, threatening to sink their vessel. While the disciples panicked, Jesus remained asleep. When woken by the fearful disciples begging to be saved, Jesus rebuked the winds and waves, instantly calming the storm. The disciples were amazed at Jesus' divine authority and power over nature, realizing he was no ordinary man but God in their midst.

Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.

In his search towards reality or the unchanging fundamental unit of this universe, a scientist started with the external gross world of solid matter which is simple and easy to see, divide, and do experiments with.
This search led him through steps of understanding of this entire world of matter starting from elements, molecules, atoms, protons, neutrons and electrons;
He further understood that it is all packets of energy.
The atoms conglomerate together to form various chemicals; our body is therefore a permutation and combination of various chemicals. (Packets of energy in various configurations) When they join together they form molecules, cells, tissues organs, etc.
These follow certain well defined laws of nature and are controlled by nervous (electrical) and chemical (hormones) mechanisms to bring about movement and action in each and every cell.
Thus annamaya kosha is the physical frame which the grossest of the five Koshas.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.
The Revelation Chapter 7 Working Copy.docxFred Gosnell
John witnesses the sealing of God's 144,000 witnesses, and he hears the crying out or shouting of an unnumbered multitude of those who have been saved during the great tribulation.
This is an intermission scene before opening the seventh seal. We have seen six seals opened revealing of the events that would shortly occur. The first 4 reveal what was to occur in the great tribulation during the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in AD70.
The fifth seal reveals the question from those slain as to when the Lord would avenge their death. The sixth seal reveals the answer to them from the One on the throne and of the Lamb which would be the punishment of their persecutors and accomplices. John sees four messengers/angels holding back the four winds of the earth & keeping them from blowing on the earth, the sea or any tree. In this figurative language, these are not heavenly messengers/angels. These represent those who are trying to restrain the word of God everywhere. Their efforts are restrained by the messenger in verse 2, preventing them from holding back the 4 winds, the spread of the gospel of Christ by His messengers/angels. These 4 winds stand on the four corners of the earth, Rome’s worldwide influence to stop its spread. But the gospel will be preached in all the earth. See the study for the Bible passages that support this. John hears the commands given relating to the sealing of the servants of God and the figurative number representing them. John sees a great multitude standing before the throne of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues who are clothed with white robes. All the messengers/angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four beasts fell before the throne and worshipped God. One of the elders asks John what those were that were wearing white robes. John said he knew and the elder identifies them. The chapter ends with his explanation.
2. I – INTRODUCTION Historical and Contextual background More than anything else, the Jews desperately wanted a Messiah as this was prophesied. They wanted to get into the Kingdom. In Mathew 5 to 7, Jesus describes the characteristics of Kingdom citizens (verses1 to 12), the function of Kingdom citizens (13 to 16) and the basis of conduct of Kingdom citizens which is God’s laws (13 to 17) He clarified to them that the standard of righteousness required to get into the Kingdom anchored on God’s laws but is primarily internal. (vs. 20) He gives them six illustrations to drive the point (Verse 21 to 48) In verses 21 to 26, Jesus gives here the first illustration contrasting how they have misinterpreted God’s law and given emphasis on the letter of the law or the external rather than the spirit of the law or the internal (heart righteousness)

9. - The scene of presenting your offering at the altar was familiar to the Jews. Jesus had in mind here the sacrifices made on the day of Atonement wherein the worship sacrifices animals for their sins. Jesus is saying here settle the breach between you and your brother before you try to settle the breach between you and God. Not to do so would be hypocrisy as it is akin to asking for forgiveness without repenting. “ What are your multiplied sacrifices to me says the Lord. I have enough of burn offerings of rams and the fat of cattle. And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls lambs or goat . . .Wash yourselves make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from my sight. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless; defend the orphan, plead for the widow . . . “ (Isaiah 1: 11, 16-17, 58: 5-7) “ Will you steal, murder and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and offer sacrifices to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have no known, then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say “We are delivered” ? (Jeremiah 7:9 -10)

11.
12. CONCLUSION: In the fullest sense, of course because no one ever fully has right attitudes no worship is acceptable. Therefore everything Jesus teaches in the passage as in the rest of the Sermon on the Mount shows the absolute standard of God’s righteousness and the absolutely impossible task of our meeting that standard by our own power. He shatters our self righteousness in order to drive us to his righteousness, which alone is acceptable to God.
