Introduction: The Purpose of This Document
The mission has been placed before Christians by Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the head of the church, “Go and make disciples”. In doing that, the Christian witness is challenged in many ways. Most often, the challenges come with rebuke, name calling, and other non-sense, especially when trying to discuss political topics in the context of religion in the midst of the 2016 Presidential Election.
With less than one month to the election on November 8, 2016, social media, especially Facebook, is covered with information, some good information, but mostly bad information. Many of the posts are rude, meant to demean and ridicule, meant to say someone is stupid, bigoted, racist, or having a phobia of some kind. That often comes when discussing politics and carrying out The Great Commission. Often, there is no reasonable discussion or debate. It’s what I call, “A Hit and Run”, where someone forwards a picture with some rude words on it to attempt to make a point. When posting, the messenger has nothing to say in his own words. It’s just a shot at someone to say they disagree with a certain position or behavior.
In trying to present the Gospel, to witness The Good News to others, and with having seemingly little in positive results, I have wondered how Jesus would do it. I’ve considered that. At times, when Jesus was approached with a question that was intended to trap Him, He responded with a question that was intended to make a point without getting into the discussion. Sometimes, His question dissipated the ones asking the question. Sometimes, He explained the answer to the people or just His disciples.
I’ve often entered into discussions with people by putting out meaningful comments and basing them on truth. That approach may or may not result in good debate and discussion. Many times, I stay out of certain “attacks” because the messengers are not likely interested in meaningful discussion. They are only interested in jabbing someone with their point to disturb them. And they can do that in a post by hiding behind the social media platform without putting themselves in a face-to-face discussion.

How can we pray in faith (Mark 11:22-24) when we don’t know God’s sovereign will in advance? How long should we continue praying if God doesn’t seem to be answering? Is there a point at which we should give up? Where is the proper balance between prayer and proper methods? Does dependence on God in prayer mean that we should neglect effective methods?

05 Study Of The Law Love Your Neighbor - Murder & AdulteryDon McClain
Both murder and adultery are acts of violence against others –
Both are degrading and heinous crimes against God and man –
Both are destructive to self, relationships and nations -
The Scribes and Pharisees relaxed the command to not murder by diminishing the judgment involved; but Jesus teaches us about true righteousness that we are not to devalue our fellow man and we should reconcile quickly when there are issues between us. Ultimately, Jesus is reminding us that God is life, and we must value life to be like Him.
This is a series of lessons taught by Brian Birdow on how not to get a divorce. All sermons are available free for download at www.cmcoc.org and itunes. “The Nature of Saving FAITH” (2)— (Romans 3:19-5:5) In Romans 4 Paul is contrasting two opposing SYSTEMS, “FAITH & WORKS.” The “works” system cannot save a sinner because it demands perfection - and no amount of work can undo the sinners sin. Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

be punished - (5:22)
✦ What about the attitudes
leading to murder?
9. 9
You shall not murder, and whoever murders
will be in danger of the judgment.' (5:21)
✦ The Law also required “love
your neighbor as yourself” -
(Deut. 6:5; Lev 19:8)
✦ The ethical principles of the
Law were not superficial
ordinances given to merely
govern the muscle and not the
mind & heart! (Ex. 20:17; Lev.
19:17; Deut 5:21; Rom 7:14)
10. 10
You shall not murder, and whoever murders
will be in danger of the judgment.' (5:21)
✦ It appears that the Scribes &
Pharisees were willing to take
a stand against murder -
✦ But they could hate their
brother - despise him - speak
evil against him without
suffering any consequences -
and not be in violation of the
Law.
11. 11
But I say to you - (5:22)
✦ Jesus spoke with authority -
✦ “Without a cause" implies anger
isn't wrong per se -
✴ God angry w/ wicked. (Ps. 7.11)
✴ Jesus was angry with hypocritical
Pharisees - Mr 3:5. Jn. 2.17
✴ Be angry, and sin not - Ep 4:26.
✴ Righteous indignation is the
proper response to ungodliness
(Rom. 12.9)
12. 12
But I say to you - (5:22)
✦ Jesus not only condemns murder, but
also evil speech - and not only evil
speech - but also the unjust & vengeful
anger that motivates it.
✦ Jesus’ response accommodates their
fixation with civil penalties - (the
judgment, i.e. civil court; the council,
i.e. the Sanhedrin court) - but clearly is
speaking of a greater tribunal - “danger
of hell fire”
✦ Civil governments do not condemn men
for having murderous thoughts, but
Christ does.
13. 13
But I say to you - (5:22)
✦ Christ isn't saying there is never a
situation in which a man deserves
to be called a fool (7.26-27, 23.17,
Gal. 3.1) or that calling a man a
fool is worse than calling him
Raca, which is worse than being
angry at him without a cause.
✦ Instead, He is teaching that
insulting language--name calling,
racial, ethnic, and social slurs,
etc.--that demeans a fellow human
being is condemned by God.
14. 14
But I say to you - (5:22)
✦ The problem of murder must be
dealt with at its fountainhead.
✦ The heart, tongue and hand must
be clean - Where there is no
anger and hatred, there will be
no murder - Mat 23:26
✦ What evil words and actions are
produced by a heart that is filled
with agape love? - 1 Cor 13:1-7
15. 15
But I say to you - (5:22)
1 John 3:14-15 (NKJV)
14 We know that we have
passed from death to life,
because we love the brethren.
He who does not love his
brother abides in death.
15 Whoever hates his brother is
a murderer, and you know that
no murderer has eternal life
abiding in him.
16. 16
First Be Reconciled To Your Brother - 23-26
Matthew 5:23-24 (NKJV)
23 Therefore if you bring your gift
to the altar, and there remember
that your brother has something
against you,
24 leave your gift there before the
altar, and go your way. First be
reconciled to your brother, and
then come and offer your gift.
17. 17
First Be Reconciled To Your Brother - 23-26
✦ Attitudes that shut another out,
shut God out (1 Pet. 3:7).
✦ Find the aggrieved brother and
make peace with him.
✦ Many sought / seek zealous
ceremonial worship as a cover
for their moral failure - (Amos
5:21-24; Jere 7:21-23; Mat
23:23,24; Ro 12:18-21)
18. 18
First Be Reconciled To Your Brother - 23-26
✦ The urgent need then is to
repent - (how can the
impenitent worship God?)
✦ Many are destroying
themselves because they lack
either the humility or courage
to repent of sinning against
another and seek their
forgiveness.
19. 19
First Be Reconciled To Your Brother - 23-26
✦ “Agree with your adversary
quickly” - 25
✦ To understand this as mere
prudential advice to “settle out
of court” in order to escape an
earthly court is to miss the point.
✦ Those who show no mercy will
be judged without mercy - Mat
5:26; James 2:13

23. Romans 12:9-21 (NKJV)
9 Let love be without hypocrisy.
Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is
good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to
one another with brotherly love, in
honor giving preference to one
another; 11 not lagging in diligence,
fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12
rejoicing in hope, patient in
tribulation, continuing steadfastly
in prayer;
24. Romans 12:9-21 (NKJV)
13 distributing to the needs of the saints,
given to hospitality. 14 Bless those who
persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and
weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the
same mind toward one another. Do not
set your mind on high things, but
associate with the humble. Do not be
wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no
one evil for evil. Have regard for good
things in the sight of all men.
25. Romans 12:9-21 (NKJV)
18 If it is possible, as much as depends
on you, live peaceably with all men. 19
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but
rather give place to wrath; for it is
written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will
repay," says the Lord. 20 Therefore "If
your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is
thirsty, give him a drink; For in so
doing you will heap coals of fire on his
head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil,
but overcome evil with good.
