2. Demonstration of Project Problem situation, including the characteristics that made it difficult. Approach and reasons for adoption. Example Illustrations, information and evidence relating to analysis, demonstration of Products. Describe what has been learned. Identify deficiencies in the work and relevant body of knowledge. 05/05/2009 2
3. The Problem Current business activities exploiting the Immersive Internet is not holistic. Steep learning curve in adopting to the use of IIA’s limits realising benefits. Meaning of purposeful strategy is lost through too much adaptation. Current confidence and buy in from project managers is low. Use of IIA’s is tarnished by disillusioned project managers who have not understood the application of the technology. This attitude is supported by IIA system owners who operate a closed system or hierarchical systems approach. 05/05/2009 3
4. The Approach The primary aim of this project is to develop a candidate method for the formulation of a strategy that will allow an organisation to identify and define activities to be performed when utilising IIAs The Immersive Internet Environment needed to be understood, its evolution from other forms of related technology and concepts. The use of suitable technology, its application and the obtainable benefits could better be realised through proper study. Community, the Immersive Environment and relevant technologies were studied from a systems approach. Systems Dynamics was chosen to model the Immersive Environment from a holistic perspective, allowing ethical business practices to be formed. 05/05/2009 4
5. Analysis Summary “Quality” defined as the presence of functionality that is conducive to community based business methodology, also offering a functionality that can be classed as diverse enough, to provide the ability for a wide range of innovative businesses to implement a strategy which is right for them. Important factors in the use of IIAs: Huge social implications, positive and negative. Increases viability of projects that would otherwise be unviable. Reduces dependence on traditional work methods, forward thinking in the context of social and workplace trends. Leads to groupthink and the loss of meaning if strong leadership is absent. Closed system IIA owners should be avoided. 05/05/2009 5
8. Understanding Information Requirements When exploring how IT integration effects an organisation and the scale of the benefits that may be achieved because of it, we may follow the evolution of an organisations information infrastructure through five consecutive generic levels. 05/05/2009 8
13. Outcomes Hierarchical and processed based systems approaches have their place in studying and more specifically running vBusiness concerns, however the multi-paradigm systems approach will always prove desirable when trying to understand human interactions through illogical behaviours. vBusiness and the use of the emergent immersive internet has civilisation scale implications. It has to be treated with focus and respect. It has to be dealt with ethically. There needs to be more CIO’s involved in generating viable business models. That can only be done when the technology is ready. It’s nearly there, but can not be said to be efficient or fit for purpose in most cases. Federated systems are the future. There needs to be some serious study on this topic. There are few reliable sources. 05/05/2009 14
