This document discusses obstacles that consumers face in joining credit unions according to surveys. The top obstacles reported by consumers are inconvenient branch locations (38%), not enough branches (33%), and inconvenient ATM locations (25%). Over half (55%) of Americans believe incorrectly that credit unions do not offer mobile or online banking. The document also presents statistics on the benefits of digitalization for financial institutions, including increased income for banks with high digitalization, decreased likelihood of customers switching with frequent digital use, and projected savings of $8 trillion by 2022 through increased use of chatbots which provide a 4 minute time savings over call centers.
