The group decided to focus on metal music for their project because most members enjoyed that genre. They ruled out other genres like rock, punk and metal that did not have distorted guitars and strong stage presence. Some members had experience with metal music before, and they thought it would be more interesting than other popular genres chosen by other groups. The group selected Avenged Sevenfold as the band to analyze because they were all fans of the band and could get ideas from their album artwork and music videos, as well as related artists like AC/DC.

3. Narrowing of Choices
As a group we decided to narrow down the choice by genre preference to
begin with, the majority of us were into the same type of music so this made
it easier to decide. To begin with we wanted to go to the “heavier” side of
music with distorted guitars and focus on stage presence. This ruled out many
things which left us with Rock, Punk and Metal. As some people in our group
had experience working with a certain type of genre before and we all also
already knew something about it we decided that Metal as a genre would be
a good idea. Not only do we all like the genre as a group, we also think that it
will be more interesting than generic styles that other groups are using.

4. Band choice
We started by looking at artists we already knew and listened to such as
Metallica, Iron maiden, Pantera. We then looked at related artists, listened to
some music and watched some official music videos for the bands. We then
decided on Avenged Sevenfold as we were all fans, had album artwork where
we could get ideas from and multiple music videos to look at and analyse. We
also had a look at different music videos from related artists such as AC/DC.
Avenged Sevenfold also have many different albums and music videos in
which we can have a look into along with many related artists.
