2. Initial Idea Concept #1

Narrative Summary:
• The concept of this music video is a narrative based fully around the story that unfolds through the lyrics.
• The lyrics connote changing for the better from a previously damaging lifestyle.
• The video will be done through flashbacks with the verses being flashbacks and the chorus being in
present time.
• The chorus is in major key which connotes happiness, whereas the verses are in a minor key so I believe it
is fitting for me to have the flashbacks then.
• The flashbacks will be filmed in grindhouse style as opposed to black and white because it is, in my own
personal opinion, too generic and obvious.
• The story will follow the main protagonist as he looks back on his previously hedonistic lifestyle
(flashbacks) which involved him and his friends not caring about themselves and living to party, whilst
telling us the story of how he changed his ways.
• We slowly find out that, due to their actions and being highly intoxicated, one of the members of their
friend group is accidentally killed. This then causes the protagonist to change his ways for the better.
• As I am going for both performance and narrative in this video, the protagonist will also be the singer of
the song and the story of how he changes will involve him getting signed to a record label and writing
about his previous experiences.

Narrative Summary:
• The second initial idea I have for my music video is strictly performance based with a small
narrative throughout the video.
• The video will work in a non-linear fashion, cutting between the singer performing the song at a gig
and their journey to the gig itself.
• Their journey to the gig will involve several hiccups such as the tyres on the car going flat and
people not being able to get signal/losing battery life on their phones which will therefore lead to
them hitchhiking.
• The person who picks them up will then turn out to be a crazed fan causing the performer and his
entourage to escape the car and run to the gig.

4. Initial Idea Concept #3

Narrative Summary:
• For my third idea I have, yet again, chose a narrative structure featuring brief performances.
• As the song connotes change for the better its going to follow the story of someone running away
from home. The video will start off with the protagonist of the video packing some stuff into a
friends car and driving off.
• Throughout the video the viewer will then be shown the reasons for the protagonists quick
departure i.e. problems at home and the opportunity for a better life somewhere else.
• The performance aspect of this will be filmed in the car, with the protagonist miming the song
words whilst looking out of the window in deep thought.
