William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. He is considered the greatest writer in the English language and wrote famous plays such as Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers from feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets, meet at a masked ball and fall in love but cannot be together due to their families' rivalry. They secretly marry with the help of Friar Laurence but ultimately both die from a misunderstanding that leads each to believe the other is dead. Shakespeare had three children with his wife Anne Hathaway and retired to Stratford in 1613, dying there three years later.
