This document summarizes a study that examined the impact of enterprise resource planning (ERP) system adoption on firm performance over a 3-year period. The study compared the financial performance of 63 firms that adopted ERP systems to peer firms in the same industries that did not adopt ERP. The study found that firms adopting ERP systems had significantly better return on assets, return on investment, and asset turnover compared to non-adopting firms over the 3-year period. Interestingly, the financial performance of ERP adopting firms remained steady while the performance of non-adopting firms declined over time.
