The study found that excessive use of social networks like Facebook can lead to psychological disorders and antisocial behaviors in teenagers. Teens who used technology daily were more likely to develop stomach pain, sleep problems, anxiety, and lower grades. However, the study also found that moderate social media use can develop "virtual empathy" and increase sympathy towards others in real life.

The study that many parents had been
waiting to see published just seen the
light: facebook can become antisocial
youth. That’s the conclusion of a study by
Larry Rosen, professor of psychology at
California State University.

According to the study, use too much
facebook or other social networks can
lead to the development of psychological
disorders and narcissist or antisocial
attitudes in adolescents. In some cases of
young people who have a very active in
the social networks, you can also see
manic or aggressive behaviors.

The study also found that teens who use
technology every day too (social networks,
video games) are more likely to develop
stomach pain, sleep problems, anxiety or
insomnia also have found lower grades
among students who entered facebook
during the study (15 minutes) and lower
concentration levels among those who
had open on their computers.

However, the studio also drew positive
conclusion, such as the development of
something called “virtual empathy”, with a
positive effect on the contacts shown
towards this empathy. The study also

ORIGINAL ARTICLES The Relationship Between Facebook and the Well-Being of Undergraduate College Students Maria Kalpidou, Ph.D., Dan Costin, M.A., and Jessica Morris, B.A. Abstract We investigated how Facebook use and attitudes relate to self-esteem and college adjustment, and expected to find a positive relationship between Facebook and social adjustment, and a negative relationship between Facebook, self-esteem, and emotional adjustment. We examined these relationships in first-year and upper-class students and expected to find differences between the groups. Seventy undergraduate students completed Facebook measures (time, number of friends, emotional and social connection to Facebook), the Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale, and the Student Adaptation to College Scale. First-year students had a stronger emotional connection to and spent more time on Facebook while they reported fewer friends than upper-class students did. The groups did not differ in the adjustment scores. The number of Facebook friends potentially hinders academic adjustment, and spending a lot of time on Facebook is related to low self-esteem. The number of Facebook friends was negatively associated with emotional and academic adjustment among first-year students but positively related to social adjustment and attachment to institution among upper-class students. The results suggest that the relationship becomes positive later in college life when students use Facebook effectively to connect socially with their peers. Lastly, the number of Facebook friends and not the time spent on Facebook predicted college adjustment, suggesting the value of studying further the notion of Facebook friends. Introduction In recent years, online social-networking sites haveachieved notable popularity among college students. The creation of Facebook, in 2004, has revolutionized social behaviors and networking practices among college students. Facebook allows a user to create a profile, display personal information, upload pictures, access other users’ profiles, ac- cumulate online friends, and interact with those friends through messages, gifts, and other applications. In the literature, the average amount of time spent on Facebook ranges from 30 minutes1 to over 2 hours daily.2,3 While it appears that Facebook is the preferred approach to networking among college students, there has been little research on its relationship with psychological well-being. Past research has extensively examined the effects of general Internet use on social well-being. Initial studies concluded that greater Internet use led to a decline in family communication, and local and distant network size.4 Based on the results of the HomeNet project,4 participants who spent a significant amount of time on the Internet reported higher levels of loneliness and a greater number of daily stresses than people who did not use the Internet as much. ABSTRACT: This study was aimed to examine the relationships between phubbing, attachment styles and social anxiety variables in adults; also, to examine the predictors of individuals' socio-demographic characteristics on the variables of the study. The sample of the study consisted of 260 adult people. According to the first findings of the study, there was a significant negative relationship between the the Adult Attachment Style (AASS) and the the Liebowitz Social Anxiety (LSAS), a significant negative relationship between (AASS) and the Generic Scale of Phubbing (GSP), and a positive relationship between (LSAS) and the (GSP) was found. Secondly, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the socio-demographic characteristics of the phubbing variable, and there was a significant difference in the purpose of using the smart phone and the duration of using the smart phone. While the variable of attachment styles differs significantly according to gender. Finally, although the social anxiety variable does not differ according to income level, age groups and duration of social media use, it has been found to differ according to gender. According to the results of the regression analysis, it is concluded that simple linear regression can be established by seeing that these equations support the assumption of normality. Course Project – Introduction and References We all want the best for our children and the children around us. The children in today’s society are the adults in tomorrow’s society. I have three children at home myself with a very supportive husband and family and friends around me. All three children have different attitudes and different behavioral issues that need addressing on a daily basis. You see the children out on the street, see the news and crimes happening all around us and don’t you wonder what is going on and why? Asking yourself, where are the parents!? I know I am guilty of just that. Sociologists have become increasingly concerned with the ways in which families shaped children’s development and overall well-being. Sociologist’s examine the timing and duration of mothers’ poverty, single motherhood, welfare, employment, and kin coresidence through early and middle childhood. Child behavior problems are shaped by poverty and kin coresidence in early and middle childhood, and by parents use of physical punishment. Data was used on mothers and children from the NLSY, which showed strong demands of data, and provided strong tests of relationships. A child’s behavior problems are a very important aspect of children development because it could be implicated in later adult outcomes. For example child temper tantrums could lead to later problems in life such as downward occupational mobility, erratic work lives, and divorce and separation (Caspi, Elder, and Bem 1987). Child development research find continuity between early behavior problems and later antisocial behavior (Olweus 1979; Loeber 1982), while criminological research finds continuity between behavior problems and later delinquency and crime (Farrington 1986; White et al. 1990). Such offenders in turn are more likely to suffer adult problems like joblessness, poverty, violence, and imprisonment (Nagin, Farrington, and Moffitt 1995; Farrington 1989; Hagan 1991). Through the research in child psychology it has been determined that coercive or authoritarian control based upon force, threat, or physical punishment of children is ineffective in controlling and shaping children. What has been proved effective is inductive or authoritative control based upon reasoning, explaining, and understanding (Baumrind 1978; Boronfenbrenner 1979; Rollins and Thomas 1979). Moreover, the youths stay updated on the events that happen around the world at the comfort of their rooms or working places. Also, many youths have made the social media a source of their income and have utilized it to improve their lives through improved connections. Despite the good aspects connected to the social media, it has the negative side too and this has bad implications on the youths. To begin with, social media reduces face to interactions as they spend most of their time in these online platforms. This isolation result in psychological, emotional mental and physical effects to the youths. Adolescents learn who they are in relation to others while at the same time experiencing more mood disruption than any other stage of life. At this stage, development from early experiences has already impacted them and how they feel about and interact with peers. This along with the fact that the frontal lobe of the brain, responsible for higher order fuctioning such as self-regulation and judgment, is not fully developed, can explain why this stage gives way to risky behaviors (Broderick & Blewitt, 2014). One particularly troubling behavior in adolescents is drug use. Not only is this harmful to the individual at the time, but it often leads to lifelong difficulty with addiction. There are several risk factors that can increase the likelihood of drug use in adolescence. One very relevant factor to drug use is self-concept, which starts developing in early childhood, but especially develops in adolescence. This can include one's physical, social, family, and academic self-concept. A study that analyzed the relationship between self-concept and drug use found that negative self-concept in categories of family, academics, and physical appearance was significantly correlated with drug use (Maria et al., 2011). Another factor highly correlated with drug use is exposure to "potentially traumatic events" prior to age 11. These events include threats to physical or emotional harm. The Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry published a study using a national survey examining the link between these PTEs and drug use in adolescence, and found a positive relationship between PTEs and use of marijuana, cocaine, and prescription drugs (Carliner et al., 2016). Although much evidence has been found regarding environmental influences, heritability also plays a role. A longitudinal study found that heritability of externalizing behavior in adolescents was 56%, and 27% for drug use (Korhonen et al., 2012). These factors often interact with each other. For example, when a parent is genetically inclined to externalize, often the parent will abuse drugs, creating an unstable environment for their child. They may be less responsive in early childhood, creating an insecure attachment and a poor self-concept. Parental drug use and general externalizing behavior may also expose a child to potenti.

The Facebook has become an essential part of almost every university students’ daily life, and while a large number of students seem to get benefits from use of the Facebook by exchanging information for educational goals, make friends, and other activities, the literature indicates that this social networking site can become addictive to some university students’ users, which is one of the today’s higher education matters. The aim of this study, therefore, is to explore the phenomenon of Facebook addiction among university students. Qualitative study using interview is used to gather data from nine International postgraduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia and the data established three themes (Compulsion to check Facebook, High frequency use, and Using Facebook to avoid offline responsibility) relied on the participants interviews. The findings from these three themes showed that these users considered their Facebook dependency, are known as salience, tolerance, and conflict. These results also lead to the conclusion that like most activities, moderation and controlled use are key. So, the best approach to preparing students for life in a knowledge-based society is to help them exercise self-control and achieve a level of balance when using Facebook. It is believed that the findings of this study would help other Facebook researchers by contributing to the limited academic literature in this area.

Some of the effects of social media are good but others negatively influence social, moral, physical and spiritual development of the adolescents. Technological advancements and penetration of the communication networks have made social media, social networking sites and development of the smartphones have made accessibility of the social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, WeChat, Qzone, Google and many others readily available to the adolescents. However, there are significant risks that are associated with the use of social media that influence the development of adolescents. Various studies have been done touching on the effect of social media on the development of adolescents and teenagers. Some studies consider both negative and positive effects of social media. However, in this particular study, we learn more on the risk factors hence we deal more on the negative effects of the social media on the development of the adolescent. In the study conducted in the year 2019 by Keles, McCrae and Realish, they revealed that in 92% of the teenagers are the active users of social media. This clearly shows that teenagers are the greatest per cent that is the active users of the social media and therefore are mostly affected by social media. In reviewing further studies to establish how social media can impact the development of the adolescent, Urie Bronfenbrenner makes it clear that type of the environment that people interact in will influence their behavior. This means that social media has the ability to influence adolescents negatively. It is therefore important to evaluate bad behaviors that are related to the use of social media and determine if they are applicable to adolescents. In one particular study, it was revealed that mental disorders are very common among adolescents. In the United Kingdom, the study revealed that cases of the girls harming themselves had increased by 68%. Many of the cases of mental disorders were correlated to social media. On further analysis, it was identified that majority of the teenagers have multiples social accounts which demand much their attention, some do not have enough time to sleep while on the social media and others have been addicted to the social media which leads cases of the depression among the adolescents (Keles, McCrae & Grealish, 2019). In the last few years, the use of these networks has skyrocketed among Internet users, especially young adults. These new virtual communities are significantly influencing the way young people communicate and interact with one another. A report titled “E-Expectations: The Class of 2007” went so far as to label upcoming college freshmen “the Social-Networking Generation” (qtd. in Joly, 2007, para. 3). In late 2006, the Pew Internet Project, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research group that examines the social impact of the Internet, reported that 55 percent of online teens have created a personal profile on OSNs and that 48 percent of teens visit social networking Web sites daily, with 22 percent visiting several times a day (Lenhart and Madden, 2007). The two most popular OSNs are MySpace and Facebook.MySpace is a general networking site that allows anyone to join, develop a profile, and display personal information. In less than four years of existence, MySpace has exploded to become the third most visited Web site on the Internet behind only Google and Yahoo (“Top Sites,” n.d.) with more than 100 million members (Joly). Facebook is geared more toward college students (until recently it required that a person attend a university to join the network) and is the number-one site accessed by 18- 24-year-olds. According to research studies cited in the Toronto Star, 90 percent of all undergraduates log on to Facebook and 60 percent log on daily (George-Cosh, 2007). Facebook has also experienced unprecedented growth in its relatively short existence and now ranks as the seventh most visited site on the Internet (“Top Sites”) and has a member base of more than 19 million (Joly). With the use of OSNs increasing among young people, the term “Facebook trance” has emerged to describe a person who loses all track of time and stares at the screen for hours (Copeland, 2004). While “Facebook trance” might describe only an occasional and therefore harmless phenomenon, it gives rise to important questions: What are the possible negative consequences of OSNs? What should youthful users be watchful for and guard against? The purpose of this paper is to identify the possible harms of OSNs. I will suggest that overuse of OSNs can be a contributing factor to a decline in grades as well as to other problems such as a superficial view of relationships, and increase in narcissism, and possible future embarrassment. 2. The study that many parents had been waiting to see published just seen the light: facebook can become antisocial youth. That’s the conclusion of a study by Larry Rosen, professor of psychology at California State University.

4. According to the study, use too much facebook or other social networks can lead to the development of psychological disorders and narcissist or antisocial attitudes in adolescents. In some cases of young people who have a very active in the social networks, you can also see manic or aggressive behaviors.
