Infectious dermatoses are skin lesions caused by infections that can be classified into five main types: impetigo, verrucae (warts), molluscum contagiosum, viral exanthematas, and superficial mycoses. Impetigo is a common superficial bacterial infection caused by Staphylococci and Streptococci that presents as vesicles and pustules that rupture leaving yellowish crusts. Warts are common viral skin lesions caused by human papillomavirus that appear as circumscribed, firm, elevated papules on the hands and fingers. Molluscum contagiosum presents as multiple, discrete, waxy papules on the face and trunk caused
2. DERMATOSES :ANY SKIN DEFECT OR
LESION ON THE SKIN.
INFECTIOUS DERMATOSES ARE OF FIVE
TYPES,THEY ARE:
1.IMPETIGO
2.VERRUCAE (WARTS)
3.MOLLUSCUM CONTAGIOSUM
4.VIRAL EXANTHEMATA
5.SUPERFICALIS MYCOSIS.
3. 1.IMPETIGO:
• It is a common superficial bacterial infection caused by
Staphylococci and Streptococci.
• The condition may occur in children or in adult and more
commonly involves hands and face
• Lesion appear as vesico-pustules which may rupture and
are followed by characteristics yellowish crusts.
4. HISTOLOGICALLY:
Characteristics features are: subcorneal
pustules and which is collection of
neutrophil under the stratum corneum.
Upper dermis contains severe
inflammatory reaction composed of
neutrophils and lymphoid cells.
5. 2.VERRUCAE (WARTS):
• They are common viral lesions of the skin.
• They are caused by human type of dna oncogenic virus.
• Verrucae may undergo spontaneous regression in a few
months to 2yrs or may spread to other sites.
6. DEPENDING UPON CLINICAL APPEARANCES AND
LOCATION ARE CLASSIFIED AS:
I. VERRUCA VULGARIS :
Most common human wart,
commonly caused by Hpv-1 and 2
less than 1cm in size,
circumscribed, firm, elevated
papules occuring more commonly
on the dorsal and surfaces of
hands and fingers.
7. II. VERRUCA
PLANA :
On the other hand, is flat or
slightly elevated wart, common on
the face and dorsal surface of
hands and is usually associated
with HPV-10
8. III. VERRUCA
PLANTARIS :
It occur on the sole of the foot
and is caused by HPV - 1.
They are covered with a thick with
a thick callus.
Therefore, resembles calluses or a
verrucous carcinoma.
9. IV. EPIDERMODYSPLASIA
VERRUCIFORMIS :
It resembles verruca Plana but
differs by having familial
occurrences with autosomal
recessive inheritance.
Special clinical significanceas it
may undergo malignant
change,usually into bowen's
disease.
10. V. CONDYLOMA ACUMINATUM :
• It occurs on the penis, on the vulva and around the anus.
• They are commonly caused by HPV-6.
• The lesions appear as soft papillary, Cauliflower - like
mass that may grow fairly large in size.
• In rare cases tranformation may occur into carcinoma may
occur.
11. HISTOLOGICALLY :
It consist of :
I. Papillomacosis
II. Acanthosis
III. Hyperkaratosis.
IV. Parakeratosis
V. Vacoulated cells.
12. 3.MOLLUSCUM CONTAGIOSUM:
It is a common self - limiting
contagious lesion caused by a
pox virus which is a dna virus.
It is more common in children and
young adults.
Infections is acquired by direct
contact
Clinically,lesions are often
multiple,discrete waxy, papules
about 5mm in diameter and more
commonly seen more frequently
on face and trunk.
13. 4.VIRAL EXANTHEMATA:
They are group of contagious condition in which
epidermal cells are destroyed by replicating viruses
causing eruption or rash..
There are conditions like :VARIOLA, VACCINIA,
VARICELLA & HERPES ZOSTER.
14. 5.SUPERFICIAL MYCOSIS.
Superficial fungal infection of the skin are localised to stratum corneum.
Clinically, these fungal infection are labelled according to the region involved are:
I. TINEA CAPITIS :occuring on scalp, especially in Children.
II. TINEA BARBAE :affecting the region of beard in adult males.
III. TINEA CORPORIS :involving the body surface at all ages.
IV. TINEA CRURISoccurs in groin in obese men
V. TINEA PEDIS :located on web spaces between the toes.
VI. ONYCHOMYCOSIS:shows disintegration of nail substance.
VII. TINEA VERSICOLOR:Caused by Malassezia furfur and affecting upper trunk.
