Meeting and event planners work with many technology platforms that all promise to optimize their resources. But many of these tools only solve one problem and rarely integrate with other platforms. As a result, planners are often left to manage event data between systems manually, cancelling out any time-saving automation that was done in the first place.
Major obstacles have traditionally precluded planners from fully integrating their systems – time, money, access to expertise, complicated processes and lack of support from technology providers and IT departments. In this webinar, we'll walk you through how to connect all of your tools by yourself with a simple integration solution, an ‘integration Platform-as-a-Service’ (iPaaS). iPaaS solutions like Built.io Flow make it easier, more affordable, and faster to integrate, enabling planners to pursue opportunities to do so much more with their skills and talents.

In our eighth Meetup we have Syed Hoda, Chief Marketing Officer of ParStream presenting “IoT Meets Big Data: The Opportunities and Challenges”. Come meet other business leaders in the IoT ecosystem and discuss the business issues you face in the Internet of Things.
Presentation Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data have each made press headlines and continue to be board-level priorities. The intersection of IoT and Big Data is a fascinating area of innovation with tremendous scope for business impact. From industrial sensors to vehicles to health monitors, a huge variety of devices connects to the Internet and share information. At the same time, the cost to store data has dropped dramatically while capabilities for analysis have made huge leaps forward. How can analytics drive business benefits from IoT projects? What are the challenges in storing and analyzing huge amounts of real-world information? How can companies generate more value from their data? We will address these questions and also share our perspectives on innovative technologies enabling new IoT use cases.

Business and IoT Economic Alchemy or Another Anticlimax - March 2016 - OSGi A...mfrancis
OSGi Alliance presentation at CeBIT IoT Summit from March 2016.
Presented by Dr Richard Nicholson.
From the Environment to Manufacturing, from the Consumer to Education, from Finance to Government, IoT has the potential to transform markets and businesses and almost everything we know today. However, to achieve this change, one must first be cognizant of, and then address, the business and engineering challenges posed by IoT. Business as usual in IT will not deliver the promises of IoT!
This talk will review the fundamental characteristics required for any pervasive IoT solution to achieve this transformation and discuss the central importance of an industry standard for software modularity. These will be compared and contrasted against some of the hot IT trends of the last decade. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the OSGi Alliance and its activities within the IoT, along with industry examples and some opportunities for you to take advantage or and get involved with OSGi.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Very Early – Definitions are still being developed
AMT says that less than 10% of industrial assets in manufacturing today are
being monitored. AMT is seeking to increase this number by standardizing the
language that machines speak with MTConnect.
13
Established in 2008, MTConnect is an open-source, royalty-free data
definition launched and supported by many major players in the industrial
manufacturing world.
5ME is an active member of the MTConnect Technical Advisory Group
(TAG) and we certify all of our products to be MTConnect compliant.
