An inductor is a passive electronic component that stores energy in the form of a magnetic field. There are two main types of inductors: fixed inductors and variable inductors. Fixed inductors include air core inductors, ferrite core inductors, and iron core inductors. The inductance of a coil depends on factors like the number of coils, the cross-sectional area of the coil, how tightly packed the coils are, and the material at the core of the coils. Inductors are constructed with a coil of conducting material wrapped around a core, with better inductance achieved using more magnetic core materials.
