Introduction
 First company in India to commercialize the use of CNG .
 In 1998 IGL was started as a joint venture with GAIL and BPCL.
 USP- extensive network of natural gas for transportation and
households .
 Sales volume has shown a growth of around 3% over the previous
year.
 Gross turnover of Rs. 4327.74 crores for the year ended March 31,
2014 showed a growth of 16% over the previous year turnover of Rs.
3724.06 crores
 PBT has been Rs. 539.80 crores as against Rs. 528.19 crores in the
previous year. PAT has been Rs. 360.26 crores as compared to Rs.
354.13 crores in the previous year.

External Analysis
 Impact on gas business is linked to the impact on fertilizers
and power business.
 People are readily accepting piped natural gas price much
cheaper than LPG.
 Investment in changing existing setup and commercial
renewable resources of energy are not feasible .
 Govt. declared goods status in this year’s budget which
would ensure that no state is charging more than 4% sales tax
on natural gas.
 natural gas being a dominant factor in the energy security of
the country govt. would try to promote the sector.

Analysis )
 Existence of the established players like IGL, GGCL and
GAIL, which have already expanded their pipeline network
in the area will limit entrant of new players.
 Threat of substitute is medium because CNG is the cleanest
and cheapest mode of transportation, except in areas where
metro rail is assessable.
 Bargaining power of suppliers is medium as supply to Delhi
and Mumbai at government-determined price.
 Bargaining power of Customer is low because customers are
fully dependant on the transporter for the natural gas supply.
 Expected increase in gas availability, new players are likely
to enter into the business, resulting in higher competition for
laying the network in untapped cities.
 IGL is comparable only to Gujarat Gas Corporation Ltd.

Introduction  First company in India to commercialize the use of CNG .  In 1998 IGL was started as a joint venture with GAIL and BPCL.  USP- extensive network of natural gas for transportation and households .  Sales volume has shown a growth of around 3% over the previous year.  Gross turnover of Rs. 4327.74 crores for the year ended March 31, 2014 showed a growth of 16% over the previous year turnover of Rs. 3724.06 crores  PBT has been Rs. 539.80 crores as against Rs. 528.19 crores in the previous year. PAT has been Rs. 360.26 crores as compared to Rs. 354.13 crores in the previous year.

External Analysis  Impact on gas business is linked to the impact on fertilizers and power business.  People are readily accepting piped natural gas price much cheaper than LPG.  Investment in changing existing setup and commercial renewable resources of energy are not feasible .  Govt. declared goods status in this year’s budget which would ensure that no state is charging more than 4% sales tax on natural gas.  natural gas being a dominant factor in the energy security of the country govt. would try to promote the sector.

External Environment Analysis (Porter’s Five Forces & Competitor Analysis )  Existence of the established players like IGL, GGCL and GAIL, which have already expanded their pipeline network in the area will limit entrant of new players.  Threat of substitute is medium because CNG is the cleanest and cheapest mode of transportation, except in areas where metro rail is assessable.  Bargaining power of suppliers is medium as supply to Delhi and Mumbai at government-determined price.  Bargaining power of Customer is low because customers are fully dependant on the transporter for the natural gas supply.  Expected increase in gas availability, new players are likely to enter into the business, resulting in higher competition for laying the network in untapped cities.  IGL is comparable only to Gujarat Gas Corporation Ltd.
