Titanium - A js based platform for building mobile appscallmejoe
Titanium is a JavaScript-based platform for building desktop and mobile applications using one code base. It allows developers to program in JavaScript and compile applications to different platforms like iOS and Android. Some benefits of Titanium include prototyping apps quickly, good support for web services integration, and an active developer community. However, it is not recommended for game development and some UI elements may not be as responsive as native controls. The ecosystem around Titanium is growing with more meetups and resources becoming available.
La Unión Europea ha propuesto un nuevo paquete de sanciones contra Rusia que incluye un embargo al petróleo. Además, se desconectará a más bancos rusos del sistema SWIFT y se sancionará a personas por crímenes de guerra.
Engineering Process Transformation to Manage (In)consistency in Complex SystemsIstván Dávid
The design of complex engineered systems requires the concerted effort of diverse stakeholders, each responsible for a part or an aspect of the overall problem. Inconsistencies emerge naturally when different parts of a system design are - often concurrently - modified without regard for their dependencies. Such dependencies range from easy to (automatically) detect to requiring costly simulations. In this presentation we make explicit the link between consistency management and design processes. Process models, in our work modeled with the Formalism Transformation Graph and Process Model (FTG+PM) formalism, are augmented with dependency information and cost estimates. These additional (domain-specific) information enable reasoning about and optimizing design processes. The core of such optimizations is embracing the presence of inconsistencies in the engineering process and instead of managing inconsistencies, rather than managing consistencies. The approach is illustrated with examples from a case study on a real industrial system: an automated guided vehicle.
ACoRCE 2015 Paper number 004 - for mergeMark Maina
This paper investigates the ability of buildings constructed using expanded polystyrene (EPS) panels to withstand ground vibrations caused by quarry blasting, compared to masonry structures. The study was conducted within 3 km of Kay Quarry in Mavoko, Kenya. The results showed that while ground vibrations caused cosmetic cracking in masonry structures, EPS panel buildings withstood the vibrations better due to their light weight and continuous construction. This makes EPS structures more resistant to seismic loading than masonry. The paper concludes that EPS is a better building material choice than masonry for structures near quarries.

This document summarizes the cosmic origins of the chemical elements through various astrophysical processes. It describes how the lightest elements were formed in the Big Bang, and how subsequent generations of stars fused lighter elements into heavier ones through nuclear fusion. During supernova explosions, even heavier elements were created and dispersed through the cosmos. Some rare light elements were formed through cosmic ray bombardment of interstellar gas. The document thus traces how all the chemical elements have their origins in stellar and cosmic processes starting from the birth of the universe.

Why Apache Kafka Clusters Are Like Galaxies (And Other Cosmic Kafka Quandarie...Paul Brebner
Closing talk for the Performance Engineering track at Community Over Code EU (Bratislava, Slovakia, June 5 2024) https://eu.communityovercode.org/sessions/2024/why-apache-kafka-clusters-are-like-galaxies-and-other-cosmic-kafka-quandaries-explored/ Instaclustr (now part of NetApp) manages 100s of Apache Kafka clusters of many different sizes, for a variety of use cases and customers. For the last 7 years I’ve been focused outwardly on exploring Kafka application development challenges, but recently I decided to look inward and see what I could discover about the performance, scalability and resource characteristics of the Kafka clusters themselves. Using a suite of Performance Engineering techniques, I will reveal some surprising discoveries about cosmic Kafka mysteries in our data centres, related to: cluster sizes and distribution (using Zipf’s Law), horizontal vs. vertical scalability, and predicting Kafka performance using metrics, modelling and regression techniques. These insights are relevant to Kafka developers and operators.

What to do when you have a perfect model for your software but you are constrained by an imperfect business model?
This talk explores the challenges of bringing modelling rigour to the business and strategy levels, and talking to your non-technical counterparts in the process.
Superpower Your Apache Kafka Applications Development with Complementary Open...Paul Brebner
Kafka Summit talk (Bangalore, India, May 2, 2024, https://events.bizzabo.com/573863/agenda/session/1300469 )
Many Apache Kafka use cases take advantage of Kafka’s ability to integrate multiple heterogeneous systems for stream processing and real-time machine learning scenarios. But Kafka also exists in a rich ecosystem of related but complementary stream processing technologies and tools, particularly from the open-source community. In this talk, we’ll take you on a tour of a selection of complementary tools that can make Kafka even more powerful. We’ll focus on tools for stream processing and querying, streaming machine learning, stream visibility and observation, stream meta-data, stream visualisation, stream development including testing and the use of Generative AI and LLMs, and stream performance and scalability. By the end you will have a good idea of the types of Kafka “superhero” tools that exist, which are my favourites (and what superpowers they have), and how they combine to save your Kafka applications development universe from swamploads of data stagnation monsters!

4. InDoorZ – and off-the –shelf technology
• The project is using or plans to use:
• Smartphones
• GPS
• Crowd sharing / Social networks
• Beacons
• Sensors in the smartphone (accelerometer – as a pedometer?)
• wearables
6. Where it stands
• Web app (it’s just the demo) on GitHub and hosted at:
• Two APK (Android applications) are in testing now (were built at 3pm
today).
• Need more good target building and floorplans
• Want to add beacons and the social portion next.
7. InDoorZ – A “Virtual” Curb-Cut
• While this could be really valuable for people with vision problems . . .
• I think many more people would like a service like this
• And anyone can find this useful.
• Thanks!
