This document provides guidelines for an individual class project to create a personal coaching philosophy. Students are instructed to write a statement of their philosophy covering general ideology, character development, diversity, behavior, motivation, and leadership. They must also include a reference and reflection section where they discuss how their philosophy relates to leadership theories and why it would lead to success in modern athletics. The reflection section should be a minimum of 6-7 pages and reference leadership concepts discussed in class. Overall, the project should be 12-15 pages in length and will be graded based on content rather than page count.

Greetings!
Since we don’t have a seminar tonight and I won’t have an opportunity to “discuss” the paper with you, I wanted to provide you with some early guidance, so you will have ample time to ask questions, if needed.
Based on feedback from students last term, I have added my personal notes to the standard rubric. In addition, I have created an “assignment guide” – somewhat like a template. Each contain essentially the same information but in different formats.
My goal is for each of you to do exceedingly well on these papers! My recommendation is that you get started on the introduction ASAP – this will allow you time to write a great goal to maximize organizational performance through leadership. Next, locate the research and other sources you desire to use and “map” them to the various sections of the paper. The way this is organized, you should be able to write about the various topics independently … or a little each day. Allow time for the research portion to “soak in” and then you will be ready for the analysis followed by your recommendation.

Write a seven to nine (7–9) page paper (2000–2500 words), not including the title and reference pages, explaining the leadership necessary to accomplish business goals and maximize organizational performance that includes the following:
· Introduction to specific business and organizational performance goals you desire to achieve through leadership.
· Discussion of the behaviors, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective leadership.
· Research on charismatic, transformational, contingency, and situational leadership.
· Selection of two of the researched leadership theories and analysis of the ability of those leadership styles and approaches to accomplish the goals as stated in the introduction. Be sure to connect the research to the analysis.

One of the most interested ideas to me is (Healthier Communities) it's an important idea to write about especially now a days. Abstract
The abstract is on a page of its own after the title page. It is a brief summary of the content of your paper (typically 100-250). The word abstract at the top of the page is not bold since it is not a heading within the paper.
Full Title of Paper
This is the first page of the body of your paper. The full title of your paper is repeated at the top of the page. Like with the abstract, the title at the top of the page is not bold since it is not considered a heading within the paper. You will see below that headings within the paper are in bold and follow the heading styles required by the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.; American Psychological Association, 2009).
This first section of your paper is the introduction of your paper. It is not labeled separately. It introduces the topic of your paper and the points you intend to make. Why is this topic important to psychology? This section also introduces how your paper will be organized, such as stating that you will review the historical background of the topic and then follow it with an overview of related current trends and discussion.
To summarize the introduction needs to be one to two pages in length. The introduction provides a brief overview of what will be covered and the purpose of the research paper.
Literature Review
This is the beginning of your literature review. Keep in mind, the literature review is not just a summary of each individual article. It is also a critical analysis of your topic supported by information you learned when reading the background literature. Your APA formatted citations for the sources of the information you are discussing is your indication of the literature reviewed.
This section will give an overview of the history of your topic and the theories being covered. It will discuss where the theories came from and how they have evolved over time. Depending on your topic, it may include comparisons and contrasts between the historical theories you are covering.
To summarize the literature review is taken in part from what you wrote in Week 3 Assignment 2. It should include at the very minimum the 6 articles that you found for that assignment. The literature review is not a copy of that material. Rather, it is a synthesis of the material you found into a cohesive review of the literature on your chosen topic.

AL 849 Principles of Athletic Leadership Development Individual Class Project Guidelines Project: Create personal philosophy The goal of this project is to create an individual coaching philosophy that is grounded in leadership theory. This project will be submitted as a statement of personal philosophy as well as a detailed reflection towards individual goals and methods of application of the philosophy. The philosophy you create should be a direct reflection of personal ethical and moral stances and should include information on all of the following areas: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. General Ideology and Philosophy Character development Diversity Behavior Motivation Leadership Philosophy Section: Your philosophy is your own interpretation of the above, and there is no need for references. However, if you choose to use quotes to help define your philosophy, then the proper APA citation and reference is necessary. Reference and Reflection Section: This section will consist of a discussion/explanation of your philosophy and its reflection on Leadership. Throughout the semester, we will discuss multiple leadership theories and you need to select a few theories that help develop and enhance your philosophy to include in your discussions. In addition, you should also discuss why this philosophy will work in modern day athletics. Be creative and thorough. One great way to think about this is as a job interview. If someone asks your philosophy, what would you tell them? IF someone asks how this philosophy will lead to success or what sets you apart from a leadership stance, what would you tell them? Self-reflection is a difficult task and takes time to turn into words. While you may have a good understanding of these components, much of this information exists as tacit information (makes sense in your head but hard to communicate and put into words). Use the leadership theories to help you and take your time. Paper Length: I hate this question! But I will try to give you an estimate. Generally, the philosophy will be at least 2 pages in length. The length of the reflection section will depend on the number of leadership theories that you include, but I would say a minimum of 6-7 pages.
