5. OPERATIONS

. Kashmir war 1947
Conflict broke out over the control of the princely state J&K.Duringwar IAFdidn’t

2. Sino indian 1962
In 1962 , Border disagreement between India and China escalated into war when
Chinese mobilized it’s troops on borders. Due to failure of military planners
to effectively use IAF, India lost the war.
3. Second kashmir war 1965
It was the first time IAF was engaged against enemy air force. PAF enjoyed
being technologically superior and with full hearted support from USA and
Britain. However IAF Gnat proved effectiveness against enemy F – 86
Sabres. IAF lost 73 aircraft and PAF lost 43 aircraft.
6. 4. Bangladesh liberation war 1971
The intensification of independence movement lead to Bangladesh
libration war. 22 nov PAF attacked indian position which leaded to
full fledged war on 3 Dec. PAF followed preemptive strikes on IAF
installations in Srinagar, Halwara, Ambala, Jodhpur. However IAF
didn’t suffer any significant damage. IAF achieved complete air
superiority over eastern front. IAF destroyed 94 PAF Aircrafts.

1. IAF fought 3 wars with Pakistan and 1 with china. 2(a). During kashmir war in 1947 RIAF didn’t involved in air to air combat with Pakistan but did provide close air support to troops and transport facilities. 2(c). More than 60% of IAF's air combat losses took place during the battles over Kalaikunda and Pathankot.
