Recruitment and Training
Pre-commission training of Gentlemen Cadets is carried out at the Indian Military
Academy at Dehradun and the Officers Training Academy at Chennai.There are also
specialised training institutions such as the Army War College, at Mhow, Madhya
Pradesh; the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), at Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir;
the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJW), in Vairengte, Mizoram; and
the College of Military Engineering (CME), in Pune.

  • 8. MAJOR CONFLICTS OF INDIAN ARMY ● First Kashmir War (1947) between India And Pakistan. Pakistan suffered significant losses. ts forces were stopped on the line formed which is now called the Line of Control (LOC) ● Sino-Indian War (1962) between India and China was a dispute over the sovereignty of the widely separated Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh border regions. ● Indo-Pakistani War of (1965). India had the better of the war and was the clear winner in tactical and strategic terms. ● Kargil war (1999) The Indian Army launched its final attacks against Pakistan and the fighting ceased on 26 July, which has since been celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas (Kargil Victory Day) in India.

AWARDS IN INDIAN ARMY ● The medals awarded by the President of India for gallantry displayed on the battlefield, in order of precedence, are Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra. ● The medals awarded by the President for gallantry displayed away from the battlefield, in order of precedence, are Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra.
  • 10. THE INDIAN NAVY The Indian Navy is the maritime branch of the Indian Armed Forces. The Chief of Naval Staff, a four-star admiral, commands the navy. At present The Chief Of Naval Staff is Admiral R. Hari Kumar.Indian Navy is considered as 7th largest Navy in the world with 67,252 active and 75,000 reserve personnel in service and has a fleet of 150 ships and submarines, and 300 aircraft.   • 13. RANKS IN THE INDIAN NAVY
  • 14. NAVY DAY In India, 4 December is celebrated as Navy Day to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy to the country. This was the day when the Indian Navy played a significant role in the bombing of Karachi harbor in 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. The name given to the attack was Operation Trident which was launched on December 4. To remember this victory Navy day is celebrated.

INDIAN NAVY SHIPS AND SUBMARINES:- ● The fleet of the Indian Navy is a mixture of domestic built and foreign vessels, the surface fleet comprises 2 aircraft carriers,1 amphibious transport dock,7 landing ship tanks,1 destroyers,12 frigates,19 corvettes,10 large offshore patrol vessels,4 fleet tankers,7 Survey ships,1 research vessel,3 training vessels and various auxiliary vessels, Landing Craft Utility vessels, ● The Navy has two aircraft carriers in active service, INS Vikramaditya, is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier from Russia in December 2013. A second aircraft carrier, the indigenously built INS Vikrant was commissioned on September 2, 2022. ❖ The Navy's sub-surface fleet includes one nuclear-powered attack submarine, one ballistic missile submarine, 16 conventionally-powered attack submarines.The conventional attack submarines of the Indian Navy consist of the five Kalvari (French Scorpène-class submarine design), the seven Sindhughosh (Russian Kilo-class submarine design), and the four Shishumar (German Type 209/1500 design) classes. ❖ A single Akula-class nuclear-powered attack submarine named INS Chakra

  • 17. Major conflict :- The Navy has been involved in 2 wars with Pakistan. While the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965 largely involved patrolling of the coast. Indian Navy played a significant role in sinking four Pakistani vessels in the year 1971.
  • 18. MARCOS The military unit Marine Commandos, abbreviated to MARCOS and officially called the Marine Commando Force (MCF), are a special forces unit of the Indian Navy.The MARCOS were founded in February 1987. MARCOS are capable of operating in all types of environments; at sea, in air and on land.Since their inception MARCOS proved themselves in various operations and wars, notable of them include Operation Pawan, Operation Cactus, UNOSOM II, Kargil War and Operation Black Tornado.They are also actively deployed on anti- piracy operations throughout the year.
  • 19. Gallantry Award in Indian Navy NAO SENA MEDAL Awarded for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Navy.
  • 20. THE INDIAN AIR FORCE The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflicts.The Chief of the Air Staff, an air chief marshal, is a four-star officer and is responsible for the bulk of operational command of the Air Force. At present Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari is the Chief of the Air Staff. Indian Air Force is considered 3rd strongest Air Force in the world. There are 170,576 personnel are in service and 140000 with the Indian Air Force. MOTTO :- Touch the sky with Glory

  • 22. The Indian Air Force Day is celebrated on 8th October every year. Major Conflict of Indian Air Force :- ● IAF has been involved in three wars all with neighbouring country Pakistan. ● The major role of IAF was in first Kashmir war 1947, Congo crisis 1961, Sino-Indian 1962, second Kashmir war 1965, Bangladesh liberation war 1971. ● 2019 Balakot Air strike was carried out by IAF on alleged JeM bases in Chakothi and Muzaffarabad in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir after the Pulwama attack .

  • 24. Aircraft Inventory ➢ Multi-role fighters and strike aircraft 1. Dassault Rafale: is a multirole fighter aircraft. As of June 2022, 36 Rafale fighters are in service with the Indian Air Force. 2. Sukhoi Su-30MKI: the IAF's primary air superiority fighter, with additional air-to- ground (strike) mission capability, is the Sukhoi Su-30MKI. 261 Su-30MKIs are in service. 3. Mikoyan MiG-29: the MiG-29, known as Baaz ( Hawk), is a dedicated air superiority fighter, constituting the IAF's second line of defence after the Su- 30MKI. There are 69 MiG-29s in service. 4. Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21: the MiG-21 serves as an interceptor aircraft in the IAF, which phased out most of its MiG-21s and planned to keep only the 125 aircraft upgraded to the MiG-21 Bison standard. 5. SEPECAT Jaguar: the Jaguar, known as the Shamsher, serves as the IAF's primary ground attack force.The IAF currently operates 139 Jaguars.
  • 28. GALLANTRY AWARDS OF INDIAN AIR FORCE ★ VAYU SENA MEDAL The Vayu Sena Medal is a military decoration, usually awarded in peacetime for a job well done in the Indian Air Force. However, it has been granted during times of conflict for acts of gallantry in the face of enemy
  • 29. Indian Armed Forces is also assisted by :- 1. Central Armed Police Forces:- Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) is the collective name of central police organisations in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs . These are technically paramilitary forces formerly known as Central Para Military Forces (CPMF). Since 2011, India adopted the term "central armed police forces" to drop the word "paramilitary". These forces are responsible for internal security and guarding the borders
  • 30. 2. Assam Rifles:- The Assam Rifles is a central police and paramilitary organisation responsible for border security, counter-insurgency, and law and order in Northeast India. Its primary role is to guard the 1,643 kilometre long Indo-Myanmar border. The AR comes under the administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), while its operational control is maintained by the Indian Army. It is the oldest paramilitary force in India.

Border Security Force(BSF):- The primary role of the Border Security Force is to guard the Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh borders, it is deployed both on the international border and the LOC. The BSF also has active roles during times of war. It has 292,000 personnel in 192 battalions.It is also known for being the largest dedicated border guarding force in the world.
