The Indian Air Force was established in 1932 under British rule as the Royal Indian Air Force. It initially operated Wapiti planes and after independence dropped the "Royal" prefix. The IAF has been involved in three wars with Pakistan and participates in UN peacekeeping missions. It currently has over 1,300 aircraft across 34 squadrons, including fighter jets like the Jaguar, MiG-21 Bison, and MiG-27, making it the fourth largest air force globally. The domestically developed HAL Tejas is the IAF's only 4.5 generation fighter aircraft.
