The quality improvement team at Hisar District Hospital in India aimed to improve administration of oxytocin to reduce post-partum haemorrhage. Due to workload issues, oxytocin was not being given immediately after all deliveries. The team tested keeping pre-filled oxytocin syringes and communicating changes between nursing shifts. This improved oxytocin administration but not all nurses were informed. The team printed notices and reoriented nurses, which resulted in oxytocin being given to all women within one minute of delivery. The team's changes in communication practices helped standardize high quality care across all shifts.
