Greenlight Planet Inc
Greenlight Planet Inc Energy Everyone Can Afford Greenlight Planet, Inc. is a global leader
in delivering honest, affordable energy to the world’s 2 billion under-electrified consumers.
In the last 7 years we've delivered over 6 million+ solar-powered lights through social
collaborations with large organizations across 40+ countries. Greenlight Planet was founded by T. Patrick Walsh, a
University of Illinois student who spent part of 2005 working with the charity Engineers Without Borders in rural India.
He saw that the residents, users of ubiquitous kerosene lamps, were not charity cases. Rather, they were savvy
consumers demanding a better product. He designed and sold the first solar-lantern prototypes in 2006 in the state of
Orissa: brighter and healthier than kerosene lamps, but affordable enough so people could purchase without subsidies.
In 2007 Mayank Sekhsaria and Anish Thakkar joined Patrick as co-founders and three set out for India and China to
make Greenlight Planet a reality with the vision that smart design, efficient engineering and innovative distribution
strategies could make dirty kerosene lanterns a thing of the past.
With over 500 employees today, each new team member provides a unique and innovative perspective, from new
designs, to better training strategies, to more efficient logistical systems. We listen closely to our customers and to each
other everyday to improve both our products and our service. For more information visit www.greenlightplanet.com

UN World Food Programme in India
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the UN agency focused on hunger alleviation and food security. India is now a
food surplus nation, with strong legislation and policy on ensuring food for all, and is home to the world’s largest
food-based safety nets. However the paradox remains that whilst India is no longer food deficit, one in three of the
world’s malnourished children lives in India. WFP’s vision of a world where hunger is no longer a reality would be
unfeasible without considerable progress in India.
In India, WFP is leading action on Sustainable Development Goal 2 (End hunger, achieve food security and improved
nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture) and moving towards the vision of achieving zero hunger in our lifetime.
WFP’s current focus is to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of India’s food-based social safety nets. This
involves innovative solution design, demonstration of impact through a pilot within existing systems, thorough
analysis of feasibility and technical support for scale up. This scale up framework has been a result of a process where
WFP has been required to develop the roadmap and support in taking an innovation from a pilot impacting a few
thousand people to an entire state with a few million people.

In the last 7 years we've delivered over 6 million+ solar-powered lights through social collaborations with large organizations across 40+ countries. Greenlight Planet was founded by T. Patrick Walsh, a University of Illinois student who spent part of 2005 working with the charity Engineers Without Borders in rural India. He saw that the residents, users of ubiquitous kerosene lamps, were not charity cases. Rather, they were savvy consumers demanding a better product. He designed and sold the first solar-lantern prototypes in 2006 in the state of Orissa: brighter and healthier than kerosene lamps, but affordable enough so people could purchase without subsidies. In 2007 Mayank Sekhsaria and Anish Thakkar joined Patrick as co-founders and three set out for India and China to make Greenlight Planet a reality with the vision that smart design, efficient engineering and innovative distribution strategies could make dirty kerosene lanterns a thing of the past. With over 500 employees today, each new team member provides a unique and innovative perspective, from new designs, to better training strategies, to more efficient logistical systems. We listen closely to our customers and to each other everyday to improve both our products and our service. India is now a food surplus nation, with strong legislation and policy on ensuring food for all, and is home to the world’s largest food-based safety nets. However the paradox remains that whilst India is no longer food deficit, one in three of the world’s malnourished children lives in India. WFP’s vision of a world where hunger is no longer a reality would be unfeasible without considerable progress in India. In India, WFP is leading action on Sustainable Development Goal 2 (End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture) and moving towards the vision of achieving zero hunger in our lifetime. WFP’s current focus is to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of India’s food-based social safety nets. This involves innovative solution design, demonstration of impact through a pilot within existing systems, thorough analysis of feasibility and technical support for scale up. This scale up framework has been a result of a process where WFP has been required to develop the roadmap and support in taking an innovation from a pilot impacting a few thousand people to an entire state with a few million people. 8www.indiacsrsummit.in www.ngobox.org
