3. We had lots of ideas…but what
should we do? Finally decided
that we needed to help those
around us who had no
voice….our animal friends !
But what could we do?
We star ted of f

which one to
address f i rst !
But in the end
we chose the
one that
appealed to al l
of us. We
decided to
lend a helping
hand to those
who could not
speak for
t h ems e l v e s… . .
our animal and
bi rd f r iends!

4. THINK
 I t is raining now and we of ten
f ind BIRDS which have injured
themselves or baby bi rds who
have fal len out of thei r nests. We
d o n ’ t k n ow h ow t o h e l p t h em a s
our mothers wi l l not let us keep
them in the house!
 The DOGS in our area have lots
of puppies! We love playing wi th
them but they keep get t ing run
over as we l ive near a busy road.
We wondered how we could stop
that .

5. IMAGINE
 We invi ted Madhura
Chakrabor ty,an animal act ivist to
h e l p u s s o l v e o u r “ d o g p r o b l em”
ef fect ively.
 She answered al l our quest ions
pat ient ly and gave us a few
ideas about how we could help
the dogs in our area.
 Madhuradi of fered to help wi th
the vaccinat ions and
ster i l izat ion once we had
ident i fied the dogs and found
someone fami l iar wi th them to
lend a hand.
However due to factors beyond our control, we could not implement our plans at
this time. We have thus postponed them to a later date.

6. IMAGINE
 For our feathered friends we
decided to bui ld bird houses
and bird feeders which we
would place in trees around
our neighborhood.
Initial designs for the bird house and bird
feeder….

7. Wi th our
plans for the
dogs
postponed,
we star ted
working on
our bi rd
plans. Two
bi rd houses
were quickly
made out of
any mater ial
we could
f ind. We
recycled
ever ything!

8. We painted
the bird
houses and
instal led
feeding
trays inside
them.

9. Both the
houses
had swings
for the
birds to
enter tain
themselves
with!

10. The bird
houses
were soon
instal led in
trees in our
local ities.

I t was now
t ime to work
on our bi rd
feeders. We
used old
plast ic
bot t les, lef t
over paint
and dr ied
l e a v e s… . .

Two models emerged…..

Soon these too were safely installed in the trees. It was
now time for the birds to come visiting!

14. FEELINGS…
Yeh chiraya ke
liye gift tha!
I liked the idea that
the birds would get
food even if it rained.
It was really exciting
when the birds came
to feed at the bird
house and one even
sat on the swing!
There were a few
squirrels too!
I was upset when
someone took away
one of our feeders
just a few days after
we put it up. It was
the prettiest one too!
That we could create
something from
nothing made me
feel “I CAN” !
Getting to climb all
those trees was an
added bonus!

15. WE LEARNT……
The tree houses needs to be waterproof!
We need to hang the bird feeders high in the tree so that passers-by
won’t be able to take them
The first model can always be improved upon. We tried out at least 3
models for the feeders before they worked. And we want to improve
them some more now…..
Plans do not always work out as you want….the timing was not right
for our dog project and we were disappointed. But we plan to give it a
go in November . After all those dogs are our friends too!
We work well together! Each person brought something different to
the group. However, sometimes good ideas come at unexpected
moments and in small groups !

the many
ways that
they can be
improved
upon.
