The students organized an art exhibition and sale to raise funds for DPS Shiksha Kendra, a school for underprivileged children run by their school. They worked with students from the Kendra to create artworks like paintings, candles, and keychains to sell. On the day of the event, many parents attended and purchased items, allowing the group to raise 35,000 rupees for the Kendra. The students felt it was a rewarding experience and learned that small collective efforts can make a positive difference. They pledged to make the fundraiser an annual event.

Activating Community Partnerships for Education - Community Chest Issues SummitKirsten Richert
On March 22, 2019, The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County hosted a Summit on Education—"Activating Community Partnerships for Education"—an important event focused on building partnerships to strengthen K-12 educational outcomes in eastern Bergen County. This program featured expert presentations and enabled participants to meet and work with people from all sectors—citizens, public officials, school administrators, nonprofit representatives, faith-based organizations, business owners, and community leaders—on this critical issue.
Participants in this Summit:
• Were inspired by models of successful School-Community partnerships currently supporting our local schools in Bergen County.
• Discovered potential partnership resources and met new contacts in our area.

1. U, Me & Us
Our design for CHANGE
From
DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, SECTOR-45, GURGAON, HARYANA

Mentor Teacher : Madhumita Nandi
Step 1: FEEL
• By the government estimate, out of 200 million children in the age group of 6 to 14 in India,
around 59 million do not attend school. Of the rest, who are currently in school, four out of
every 10 children beginning to attend school will drop out before completing their primary
school education.
• Education System does not function in isolation from the society of which it is an integral part.
DPS Shiksha Kendra is our pride and commitment towards this cause.
• It started in 2003 with a double figure and now we have 1000 students coming from the
neighboring areas belonging to the economically weaker section of society. The school provides
them with free books, stationery, school uniform and bus facility.
• To run such a magnum venture one need funds, human resources and fellow feelings.
• We decided to request our senior students to teach the Shiksha Kendra children in their spare
time, to which they readily agreed.
• The Interactive Club Members of the School reached out to celebrate joy of giving by arranging
gifts for these children during various festive seasons.
• Last but not the least; we planned to indulge in various fund raising activities for the Shiksha
Kendra from time to time. It has to be an ongoing process.
Step 2: IMAGINE
• We discussed fund raising ideas with our mentor teacher.
• Many suggestions came pouring in , such as -
• Corporate Sponsorship during our upcoming Annual Day Show, the show ticket sale proceeds
can go towards Shiksha Kendra.
• School Fete
• Art Exhibition cum sale.
• Finally, we decided to hold the Art Exhibition cum sale in the school premises.
• We invited a group of talented Shiksha Kendra children to work with us.
2. Step 3: DO
Together we designed and created:
• Season’s greetings,
• Paintings,
• Sticker sheets,
• Candle stands,
• Key chains and
• Various other objects of art and sell them.
• Once a considerable amount of material was ready, we organized the Art Exhibition cum sale in
the school premises with the help of our teachers and friends.
• Sent invitations to our teachers, parents & their friends to attend the same through the school
portal to come forward and make the event successful.
• Many parents visited, loved our items, bought them and applauded our effort!
• We managed to collect 35,000 by selling all handmade items!
• The money thus raised will go a long way to make a difference.
WHAT WE LEARNT
• The last & the final step taught us however small the steps might be; together we CAN make a
difference.
• The entire experience was beneficial to both the recipients of the resources and services as well
as to us, those who volunteer their time and efforts to such a worthy cause.
• We promise to organize the event every year and celebrate it as ‘Make a Difference’ Day .
