Design for Change Contest 2010 Sunny Preparatory School Kolkata Think - Feel - Perform The isolation of the orphans and the underprivileged from the mainstream Society is unfair!
Day 1 at Nabadiganta -WB STATE ORPHANAGE We spent a day HERE and WITHour blind friends at “VOICE OF WORLD” to interact, to find out what was missing from their lives, what we could do …
Problems we felt, problems we discovered Isolation of the orphans and the underprivileged children from the mainstream society is unfair Problems: they yearned for good food sometimes; wanted some work education & drawing classes; some entertainment; good clothes to wear; our blind friends wanted old glossy magazines to practice Braille on; didn’t have furniture, so have to sit on the floor; most of all our friends wanted a happy, secure life. Brainstorming with mentors
We invited people in our neighborhood and our parents to attend the awareness program so that our mission could be carried forward together General awareness program in our school Solving it our own way 1 Convinced some people in the locality to donate small amounts yearly that would turn up to be big, jointly, later.
Collecting funds, clothes, toys, books etc Solving it our own way 2 Raised Rs 13000 Managed to get Craft Classes for our friends Door to door campaign
Execution of the plans We collected clothes ,books and stationeries for them from the local area and distributed those Talked to our school authority, convinced them to donate the extra furniture of our school so our friends didn’t have to sit on the floor
Arranged drawing classes (for 50 children) We made 75 children happy! Craft classes for 25 Children Gave all our friends a set of drawing book and colour pastels
Entertain: Outing together, our teachers helped Enjoyed Doing plays together Our Teacher- in-charge telling our parents to help us continue the visits At Minerva, one of our heritage theatres, to watch a funny Bengali play with them
At first we were like this with each other Then we were eating together Soon we were like this !!!  ) Our Story of Change We wish to continue with our mission as we realised this problem cannot be solved within a week.
