Generation Z faces stiff competition entering the workforce during the ongoing recovery from the Great Recession that could take over a decade to overcome. They will likely find jobs in healthcare, IT, leisure and hospitality, but higher education is increasingly necessary and saddles many with debt. As the first "always connected" generation, technology and social media are integral to Generation Z's lifestyle, but this connectivity can enable sedentary habits and obesity while civic engagement may decline. Solutions are needed to empower this generation.

SDG 10 aims to reduce inequality within and between countries in various dimensions such as income, health, and access to resources. Evidence shows that children in poorer populations are more likely to die young and persons with disabilities face higher health costs. Women also tend to have lower incomes and representation. Targets to reduce inequality include increasing income growth for poorer segments, promoting inclusion, ensuring equal opportunities, and adopting policies to achieve greater equality through fiscal and social protections. Reducing inequality requires efforts like expanding education and access to capital, implementing progressive taxation, ensuring non-discrimination, and addressing the drivers of migration and hazards faced by vulnerable groups.

Poverty has many negative consequences including increased crime, illness, child labor, and conflict. It is a serious global problem. Studies show that securing land rights helps break the cycle of poverty for individuals, families, villages and entire countries. Unemployment is also a major contributor to poverty. The causes of rural poverty are complex, involving factors such as culture, climate, gender, markets and public policy. Rural poverty accounts for over 60% of global poverty. Economic growth alone is not enough to reduce poverty - it must be accompanied by reduced inequality. Large families, dependency, natural disasters, and international economic conditions can also exacerbate poverty.
Millenium development goal 3
The MDGs are goals agreed upon by 191 UN member states in 2000 to eradicate global poverty by 2015. They include promoting gender equality and empowering women through equal pay, training women in politics, setting up generators to ease women's chores, and microfinance programs. Progress was reviewed in 2010. Domestic violence disproportionately affects women and the UN supports governments in tackling this issue. Educational barriers for girls include fees, cultural biases, and lack of facilities. Enrollment of girls has increased in some areas due to initiatives like teaching materials promoting gender equality. Women are gaining political representation through quotas but still lag behind men in paid employment.

The persistence of poverty in America and the dramatic increase of economic inequality in recent decades have garnered growing public awareness. Isn't the United States at least a land of economic opportunity, in which those who start lower on the economic ladder have a reasonable expectation that they, or their children, might advance into the middle class? Or are we at risk of being a caste society, in which multiple generations are trapped in a cycle of relative deprivation, while others inherit the security of a “gilded” lifestyle?
Important recent research by social scientists has shown that intergenerational economic mobility in the United States is low compared with many other wealthy countries, and that opportunity is unevenly distributed across the country. In this presentation, Professor Sundstrom will summarize some of these findings, including what they have to say about opportunity in the Silicon Valley region. He will provide an overview of the potential causes of intergenerational persistence in income status, and the implications for community and policy strategies for increasing opportunity.

China maintained economic growth through cheap manufacturing but polluted water sources and farmland. To continue feeding its population amid ecological disaster, China must curb costs, slowing growth. Additionally, China's growing middle class is demanding more freedoms and less corruption, which conflicts with Beijing's tighter restrictions and could lead to widespread social media-enabled protests impacting China's business climate and future growth.

Overpopulation is defined as excessive population that leads to overcrowding. The human population is projected to reach 9.2 billion by 2050. Overpopulation is caused by improved healthcare, sanitation, and food distribution. Immigration also contributes to overpopulation. The main consequences of overpopulation are poverty, pollution, crime, and economic problems. Solutions proposed include China's policies restricting family size through education and planning programs, as well as generally promoting education, recycling, and family planning through various media.
