In this Discussion, you will consider different socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle, and other cultural factors that should be taken into considerations when building a health history for patients with diverse backgrounds.
Case 1
JC, an at-risk 86-year-old Asian male is physically and financially dependent on his daughter, a single mother who has little time or money for her father's health needs. He has a hx of hypertension (HTN), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), b12 deficiency, and chronic prostatitis. He currently takes Lisinopril 10mg QD, Prilosec 20mg QD, B12 injections monthly, and Cipro 100mg QD. He comes to you for an annual exam and states “I came for my annual physical exam, but do not want to be a burden to my daughter."
Case 2
TJ, a 32-year-old pregnant lesbian, is being seen for an annual physical exam and has been having vaginal discharge. Her pregnancy has been without complication thus far. She has been receiving prenatal care from an obstetrician. She received sperm from a local sperm bank. She is currently taking prenatal vitamins and takes Tylenol over the counter for aches and pains on occasion. She a strong family history of diabetes. Gravida 1; Para 0; Abortions 0.
Case 3
MR, a 23-year-old Native American male comes in to see you because he has been having anxiety and wants something to help him. He has been smoking "pot" and says he drinks to help him too. He tells you he is afraid that he will not get into Heaven if he continues in this lifestyle. He is not taking any prescriptions medications and denies drug use. He has a positive family history of diabetes, hypertension, and alcoholism.

on the cultural factors that encouraged black women to maintain a weight above what is considered healthy. Randall explained—from her observations and her personal experience as a black woman—that many African-American communities and cultures consider women who are overweight to be more beautiful and desirable than women at a healthier weight. As she put it, “Many black women are fat because we want to be” (Randall, 2012).
Randall’s statements sparked a great deal of controversy and debate; however, they emphasize an underlying reality in the healthcare field: different populations, cultures, and groups have diverse beliefs and practices that impact their health. Nurses and healthcare professionals should be aware of this reality and adapt their health assessment techniques and recommendations to accommodate diversity.

Ethical consideration is important in nursing practice, especial.docxdebishakespeare
Ethical consideration is important in nursing practice, especially when providing care to patients from diverse sociocultural backgrounds. The population of the United States comprises various ethnic/racial groups with different cultural and social beliefs, practice, norms, and values. There is an increasing disparities on the incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes among different communities in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Hispanics and African Americans have the highest incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the country (Concha, Mayer, Mezuk, & Avula, 2016). Caring for patients from different ethnic/racial groups require consideration of ethical principles and concepts to prevent ethical issues that may arise during nurse-patient interaction.
Recently, I cared for patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus who had been hospitalized for more than two weeks due to acute hypertension, partial loss of vision. Also, the patient had a chronic diabetic foot ulcer. The analysis of his medical history revealed that the diabetic foot ulcer had developed in the last two years and had never healed. The patient was so worried about his health status and kept asking when he was going to be discharged from the hospital. The patient came from the Hispanic community, which is one of minority groups with the highest incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the country. Being a culturally competent registered nurse, I had an obligation to take into account the specific ethnic background of the patient when providing care. Considering patient’s ethnic/racial background is important in providing quality, holistic, and patient-centered care based their health concerns, preferences, and values (Concha et al., 2016).
When collecting subjective data for analysis and planning for the care. I asked the patient about his perceptions about the possible causes of type 2 diabetes that he was suffering from. Hispanics have different beliefs in the causation of diabetes mellitus (Frieden, 2016). First, the patient believed that diabetes is a temporary condition that is not fatal. Second, the patient narrated a story that attempts to identify the cause of diabetes and concluded that they believe that people with “good diabetes” do not experience a lot of complications. The Hispanics use the term “good diabetes” when referring to the type of diabetes that do not require insulin for therapeutic purposes; non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (Frieden, 2016). Also, the patient had a fatalistic attitude and believed that his health condition is likely to be a punishment from God.
The patient had a low health literacy level because caregivers had encouraged him to engage in some physical exercise and adopt a self-management approach as a way of controlling and preventing complications related to his condition, but he never implemented them. Also, the pat.

Discussion: Diversity and Health Assessments
Introduction
Health care providers should exhibit knowledge of population diversity and treat all patients with respect regardless of their culture and belief system. This is essential in understanding patient’s lifestyle, and behavior which may affect their health care. Accepting patient’s culture in a nonjudgmental manner creates a unique relationship between the patient and the healthcare provider. Therefore, APRN’s should be cognizant of patient’s culture, beliefs, lifestyle, and socioeconomic status as it relates to healthcare. A culturally competent healthcare provider accustoms his/herself to the exclusive needs of patients with cultures that are different from his or her own. Being accustomed to the belief’s and values of a patient lays the foundation for a trusting patient-provider relationship (Ball et al., 2019).
Socioeconomic, Spiritual, Lifestyle, and Cultural Factors Associated with the Patient
The case study presents an 86-year-old Asian male that is physically and financially dependent on his daughter who is a single mother with little money to care for the patient’s healthcare needs. Understanding the Asian culture is relevant to providing care to this elderly patient. I will verify patient’s preferred language, ask about patient’s preference with a healthcare provider regarding race or ethnicity, gender, and age. Ensuring respect for this patient despite his financial and physical dependency will encourage a trusting relationship between the patient and the health care provider. Asian culture is known to teach respect for parents and family is a priority over self. Additionally, in Asian culture adult children are required to make financial, physical, and social sacrifices for their parents that are aging (Miyawaki, 2015). As a healthcare provider, I will welcome this patient, show respect by avoiding eye contact as some Asian countries consider making eye contact as rude. Maintaining eye contact is not done with individuals of East Asian cultural backgrounds. Also, the Japanese culture, teaches against maintaining eye contact with others as it is believed to disrespectful (Uono & Hietanen, 2015).
I will make the patient understand that I am familiar with culture of adult children caring for their aged parents. I will explain to the patient that he should not consider himself a burden to his daughter as .

INTRODUCTION
Why should sociologists care about health?
How does the study of health differ for sociologists and epidemiologists?
Nandi Edmonds was 31 when she became pregnant for the first time. She and her
husband, Miles, were so excited about welcoming their twins into the world. On July 11, 2010,
at 30 weeks into her pregnancy, she and Miles were at a childbirth class when Nandi
developed a severe headache and started vomiting. They went home so she could rest; she
woke in the middle of the night in a pool of blood and then passed out. Miles called 911 and
Nandi and their twins were rushed to the emergency room with placental abruption (when the
placenta separates from the uterus too early in the pregnancy) and pre-eclampsia (a set of
symptoms that includes high blood pressure, headache, dizziness, and protein in the urine).
Their son was stillborn; their daughter died three days later.
Nandi was discharged from the intensive care unit (ICU) only four days after this
traumatic birth experience, even though she had nearly died herself during the birth. At home,
her health didn’t improve, but her doctor told her to take her prescribed medication and rest.
When she told her long-time friend, an internal medicine resident, about her symptoms, he
immediately picked her up and took her to the hospital. Nandi had extremely high blood
pressure and likely would have suffered a stroke had she followed her doctor’s orders and
remained at home.
Discussions of health are generally the purview of medicine or public health, which
focuses on describing and preventing disease and illness. We think of doctors and
epidemiologists (who study the frequency, patterns, and causes of health and illness) as the
health experts. Indeed, on the surface, Nandi’s experience appears to be medical in nature.
However, in this chapter, we will show how sociology provides unique and critically important
information about health and illness. While both epidemiology and sociology can describe
who is more likely to become ill or die, epidemiology focuses on biomedical mechanisms and
individual health behaviors; sociology, on ...

Health inequity is a serious healthcare problem that negatively affects everyone. This problem worsens the health outcomes of the population it directly impacts and those with resources and power. For instance, health disparity makes it hard to control, contain and treat infections illnesses, like the Covid-19, therefore putting everyone at risk of contracting the disease regardless of their socioeconomic class. Culture plays a critical role in patient care and health outcomes and affects our perception of others, health behaviors, and expectations during care delivery. This paper discusses health inequalities, advocacy for families, patients, and community, and cultural competencies. Comment by lola siyanbola: Can you explain how?
Health inequalities involve differences in health resources' distribution of health between different population groups resulting from social conditions in which members of the population are born, live, grow, work and age. The inequalities are basically the systematic differences in the status of health between population groups (Marmot, 2017). The inequalities have substantial economic and social costs to both persons and communities. Social factors including employment status, education level, gender, ethnicity, and level of income affect an individual's health status, therefore creating health disparities among populations due to variations of the social factors (Malbon, 2019). Lower socioeconomic status is associated with poor health outcomes. The appropriate combination of government policies can address these health disparities. Comment by lola siyanbola: This is a fact can you rephrase or cite Comment by lola siyanbola: This is too vague, can you elaborate a little?
I would advocate for patients by connecting them with resources outside and inside the hospital to support their wellbeing and double-check for errors to identify, stop, and correct errors to ensure their safety (Doucette et al., 2018). I would educate the patients on the best way to manage their health conditions and improve their quality of life. Protecting patients' rights and giving them a voice, particularly when vulnerable, is key to safe and quality patient care. I would advocate for families by utilizing my expertise to persuade the hospital authorities about the economic position of the family, their educational level, and their cultural values about patient care. I would advocate for the community by working to ensure community members are adequately and fairly treated in all matters of health.
The first Implicit Association Tests (IAT) reveals that I hold a moderate automatic preference for Arab Muslims with 26% over Other People. This means that I am likely to respond moderately respond faster to the care needs of patients from the Arap Muslim compared to other patients. ...

Learning to adapt to different culture is a difficult task that each person has to give a try. As for John, this was the only way he could have survived to live in this region. Therefore, this was a choice he could have made earlier or later in life and there was no way out of it. The most interesting of all was being asked to be shaved at the age of thirteen to symbolize that he was about to be recognized by the society as a fully grown man. In addition, understanding different cultures was to his advantage because he was now capable of interacting with different cultures(Castillo, 2006).

The scenario is that of an 86-year-old Asian male patience that .docxjoshua2345678
The scenario is that of an 86-year-old Asian male patience that depend on his daughter for financial assistance, and in taking care of him . However, his daughter is a widow without enough resources or the ability to fully take care of her father. She is poor herself. Improving the quality of life for the old Asian male by identifying his most important health needs and recommendation through thorough health assessment is key. Older adults being more vulnerable to diseases due to low immunity, should be considered for a safe socioeconomic, cultural, spiritual and lifestyle that may prolong their life.
The first step is for the Nurse Practitioner to develop a respectful and trusting relationship with the patient, in other to obtain a detailed and accurate health history, making sure to use available translator if the patient does not speak English. The future PMHNP should engage in effective communication, such as patience and active listening because the Patient may need more time to process information before answering questions. Also, the NP should not use judgmental or non-patronizing language, in other to develop a connection with the patient (Ball, 2015).
Specific socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle, and other cultural factors related to the health of the patient
Socioeconomic factors
: The 86 year old man is financially unable to provide for himself, and is dependent on his daughter, who is a widow and is financially unable to provide for her father, therefor, the patient is socio-economically poor, and may lack a good living standard in relation of having balanced diet, meeting medical expenses and other maintenance that may improve his quality life. The NP has to consider these socio-economic factors while assessing the Patient.
Lifestyle Factor
: due to low income status, and lack of financial support from his daughter, the 86 year old Asian man most like lives a low and poor quality of life, which may have contributed to his detoriating health status, lack of of constant medial care, good nutrition and clean healthy environment. The treatment and recommendation from the NP should factor the patient’s lifestyle during treatments.
Cultural factors
: Culturally, Asians are known to be very reserved and secretive when it comes to personal health. Such strong cultural factor may influence the patient’s decision is not open about his needs to his daughter and subsequently, to a healthcare professional, The NP must figure out a way to gain his trust. Also, culturally, Asians are mostly group-oriented people that place importance on family connection as the primary source of identity (Carteret, 2010). Asian children are also known to take care of their elderly parents, but in this scenario, the patient’s daughter is equally poor and has difficulty fulfilling her role of a provider and may create emotional burden both for both parties. Religious and cultural practices such as Buddhism for Asians should also be incorporated in managing.

Name of County and State
Union County, Georgia.
County population with racial and gender breakdowns
As of July 1, 2015 estimates, the County population was 22, 267 individuals. Of this, 51.7% were Females, while as the males were 48.3%. The white people were 96.5%, the African Americans were 1.0%, the American Indian and Alaska Natives were 0.5%, Asians were 0.7%, Hispanics were 3.2%, and people with two or more races present accounted for 1.3%.
Number of Senior Citizens
The number of senior citizens was 32.5%.
Number of Disabled Individuals
The number of disabled individuals under the age of 65 was 13.9%.
Number of Children
The number of children was 16.1%.
Of the populations above, I choose the senior citizens. The first health concern for this population is elder abuse. At this age, this people are not able to actively take care of themselves like they would a while back. For this reason, they constantly required to be taken care of, in almost all the aspects of their lives. However, elder abuse is a common occurrence in which, the caregivers neglect this population so much, to the extent of some of them even dying. It is such a shame that such a thing might happen to such a delicate population. A second health concern for this population, is the risk of heath disease and other chronic diseases. According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is one of the leading killers for the senior citizens because at this age, they are delicate and their hearts are very weak (Motooka et al., 2006).
The senior citizens require a number of community health interventions and public policies, which are aimed at ensuring they lead a comfortable life. For instance, they should have access to caregivers when they cannot adequately take care of themselves (Takano, 2002). In addition, they should have access to proper diets, and they should be provided with as much assistance as possible when they are at home and in public places. They should also have regular medical check-ups, to ascertain their health conditions, as well as have access to a hospital and a personal doctor in case they need consultation before their regular sessions (Anderson, 2003). Regular exercises is also good for ensuring their lives are going on smoothly.
Health Risk Assessment
In the health risk assessment tests, I took the eating behaviour test. The questions asked basically were about the kind of foods and drinks that I take on a daily basis, how often I take the meals per day, the rate and posture at which I take the meals, my favourite comfort food, and the circumstances under which I take th ...

Healthcare

While learning these cultures, John encountered different experiences including the one for language barrier. It was difficult for him to figure out what some of the words meant so that he could have understood that culture more. Emotional constraints were other experiences that he encountered while adapting. Finally, there were behavior constraints that gave him the perfect experience for understanding that particular culture(Tosi, 2013).

•Reflect on your experiences as a nurse and on the information provided in this week’s Learning Resources on diversity issues in health assessments.
•Reflect on the specific socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle, and other cultural factors related to the health of the patient you selected.
•Consider how you would build a health history for the patient. What questions would you ask, and how would you frame them to be sensitive to the patient’s background, lifestyle, and culture? Develop five targeted questions you would ask the patient to build his or her health history and to assess his or her health risks.

Modernism
A movement dated from roughly 1900-1950. In short, modernism is about changes--changes in society and changes in literary form. Modernist literature represents the change a traditional society experiences as it becomes modern, a transformation that may be painful. In this time period, Americans witnessed the devastating effects of World War I, Black Friday and the subsequent stock market crash, the Great Depression, and World War II, and many people were disillusioned. Also in this time period came Darwin's theory of evolution, challenging traditional ideas about religion; Karl Marx's theories on communism, challenging the current idea of government; and Sigmund Freud's theory of the unconscious mind, challenging traditional ideas about humanity. Many modernist writers reflect this disillusionment and confusion by questioning traditional values and beliefs and/or portraying the failure of the American Dream. As the editors of your textbook point out, modernism is "an experience of loss" (Baym et al, 2013, p. 1847). This loss and uncertainty is sometimes reflected in literature that might end without a true resolution, echoing the loss many felt in their lives. The traditional "happy ending" is certainly not a staple in modernist literature.
