This is a talk on seawater desalination I gave in Seaside California on October 19th, 2010. It is divided in two parts.
Part I contains information on seawater desalination and how the process can impact the marine environment.
Part II provides specific examples of how brine discharged from these plants can affect species, especially eggs and developing young.
It ends with an illustration of how water recycling could be a better long-term solution to our looming water crisis on the Monterey Peninsula and in the State of California.

commercial area. It was argued that this wll help in making the area and the land in generating
revenue and jobs for the community. The limitation here is that the acquistion should not result

one religion, but since proper compensation was paid and community as a whole will get
benifitted, they can allow the acquisition of land..

- 1. In the Hackensack river estuary wich crosses the Meadowlands, the salinity of the water is greater than 100 years ago. The Hackensack river is one such example which has specifically undergone increase in salinity upto 16 times as before and consequently undergo lack in diversity of fauna and flora. The major reason behind this observation is uncontrolled industrialization and pollutant release in the water body.
