founded her real estate company, The Corcoran Group, with only $1,000 and some big
dreams. Shortly after founding the company, Barbara took out a piece of paper and wrote
down some big goals for herself and the company. In 1978, she had only 14 sales agents
working for her, who earned a total of $250,000 in commissions. She set a goal of
doubling the number of agents and the commissions every year. So she put down 28 sales
people for 1979, 56 for 1980, and so on, all the way up to 1,792 salespeople in 1985 with
total commissions of $32,000,000. Barbara was amazed when she saw the fantastic sums
projected for 1985, and of course many people, when they see such amazing sums, would
dismiss the calculations as fantasy But as Barbara put it, she went to work the next day
hustling hard for her $32 million.
Real estate agents are paid largely by commission, which is about as close as you
can get to a pure form of contingent reward for performance. However, Barbara didn’t
rely solely on the commissions to motivate her workers. She threw theme parties and held
numerous social events to build a committed workforce. Good sales agents could always
move to another firm, but not every firm had Barbara’s positive attitude and fun-filled
atmosphere. In the early years of the firm, when money was tight, Barbara and her
relatives did the cooking for the outings and parties, and she found clever ways to
entertain people with skating parties and other lively activities. As the firm became larger
and more profitable, she even hired professional entertainers for the company’s midweek
picnics, which included elephant shows, daring rides on hot air balloons, horses, or
Harley Davidsons, etc. Barbara stated “I built my company on pure fun, and believe that
fun is the most underutilized motivational tool in business today. All of my best ideas
came when I was playing outside the office with the people I worked with” (Corcoran &

I wanted desperately to make CRACKING INDIA into a film, a particular film, EARTH, which would be the second in my trilogy of the elements of Fire, Earth and Water.
Tracing Bapsi was no easy task but persevere we did and soon I was talking to Bapsi on the phone, hoping that the film rights to her book were still available. Two months later, thanks to David Hamilton's unwavering belief in the project, we owned the rights, had development funds, and I was sitting at my kitchen table, writing the screenplay of EARTH.
David and Anne Masson and I had worked together on FIRE and we re-assembled the team to begin the detailed planning of the production.
During this phase Bapsi became a friend and was exceedingly generous with information and old photographs. She would talk with me for hours about what it was like growing up in Lahore during those times. Lenny, after all, was based on Bapsi. In fact, Lenny was Bapsi.
The irony of our situation hasn't escaped Bapsi or myself. Bapsi is from Pakistan and now a US citizen. I'm from India and now living in Canada. If neither of us had moved from our respective homelands, the film just wouldn't have been possible. Pakistan and India, since the Partition of 1947, are sworn enemies. The therapeutic relationship between patient and nurse is often filled with barriers that can generate obstacles for the relationship and, in the end, the health system as a whole (Sfoggia et al.,2014). There are many factors that hinder building a therapeutic relationship: language, professional jargon, communication impairment, and cultural diversity (ibid).
Language:
Language can be an obstacle to nurse-patient communication because a patient may not be able to speak the same language and therefore communication is not possible (Levin,2006). The best way to overcome this barrier is providing a translator who can explain a professional facilitator's message easily to the patient(ibid). For instance, if the nurse only speaks English but the patient is only able to speak Arabic, a translation to the patient of what the professional facilitator is saying leads to less chance of misunderstanding (ibid). Translation also allows a patient to feel comfortable through being able to speak in their own language (ibid).
Medical jargon:
Jargon is a technical language that is comprehended by people in a specific industry or area of work (Leblanc et al.,2014). Health professionals often use jargon to communicate with each other(ibid). For example, T.B. disease stands for tubercle bacillus and HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus (Mccrary & Christensen,1993). Jargon often makes sense to health professionals but a patient who does not understand these acronyms will not understand such communication, leading to a barrier in therapeutic relationship between patient and health professional (Leblanc et al.,2014).
Communication impairment:
Patients with communication impairment such as blindness, deafness and speech impairment often feel isolated, frustrated and self-conscious (O’Halloran et al.,2009). Some patients are born with such disabilities or have developed them as a result of disease (ibid). Therefore, nurses should provide enough time in order to describe any issue to such patients so that they do not feel uncomfortable or censured by health professionals, who must remain impartial (ibid).
Cultural diversity:
Patients often have various differences (Leblanc et al.,2014).Some of these differences are due to a patient's illness, social status, economic class, education and personality(ibid). However, according to Kirkham (1998), the deepest differences might be cultural diversity. Beheri (2009) points out that many nurses believe if they just treat patients with respect, they will avoid most cultural issues. Nevertheless, avoiding misunderstanding can be achieved through some knowledge of cultural customs, which might help and enable nurses to provide better health care to patients (ibid).

Critical Analysis of the religious nature of Buddhism
The religious community often debates on whether Buddhism is categorized as a religion or as philosophical teaching. The answer to the question varies depending on an individual’s point of view. There are three main types of Buddhism practices across the world with each of them having smaller branches with slights variances in their teachings and beliefs. The different styles of Buddhist mainly encompass Theravada Buddhism, Vajrayana Buddhism, and Mahayana Buddhism. The various forms often have deities that are worshipped while others do not. Some often have scriptures while others do not usually believe in any physical form of the Buddhist teachings. The first article is authored by Rachel, a blogger, presenting the argument that Buddhism is a religion (Rachel, 1). On the other hand, the second article authored by Pamela Winfield recognizes Buddhism as a philosophy. Analyzing and comparing the two pieces having divergent views on the religious nature of Buddhism is crucial for understanding whether it is a religion or philosophy.
Summary of the articles
Rachel in her article considers Buddhism as a religion. The author acknowledges the fact that Mahayana Buddhism which is often found in greater part of Asia that includes Japan, Korea, and China often teaches on attaining enlightenment (Rachel, 1). The Mahayana often accept that every individual wishes to ensure the effective attainment of enlightenment and thus end the cycle of rebirth which others recognize as “Karma.” The article proceeds to state that Buddha is the greatest of the deities but is not worshipped. Instead, Buddha often inspires all those who practice doing as he once did. The author states that Buddhism often requires that the individuals that choose the wrong path attempt to re-accomplish these tasks in their next life alongside other punishments imposed on them by karma. The characteristics of this type of Buddhism thus often play a significant role in showing the religious nature of Buddhism. The author concludes by stating that Buddhism often contains all the different elements of a religion. Moreover, the article associates Buddhism with fallacies that characterize other religions and just as dangerous as other religions as well. Barchester City Council operates seven car parks in the centre of Barchester.
The Council has a requirement for a new system to control its car parks. This
system must provide for the day-to-day operation of each car park—issuing

The car park operational system controls entry to and exit from a car park and

There are two types of users: ordinary customers, who pay for their use of
each car park at the time they use it, and season ticket holders, who pay a

under the road surface, and a ‘Press Button’ display is flashed on the control
pillar.
The ordinary customer must press a button on the control pillar, and a ticket is
printed and issued. The ticket must be printed within five seconds. A ‘Take
Ticket’ display is flashed on the control pillar. If the car park is full, no ticket is
issued, and a ‘Full’ display is flashed on the control pillar. If a vehicle leaves
the car park, then the ‘Press Button’ display is activated again where there is
a vehicle waiting.
When the customer pulls the ticket from the control pillar, the barrier is raised.
The season ticket holder does not press the button, but inserts his or her
season ticket into a slot on the control pillar. A check is made that the season
ticket is valid for this car park and has not expired, that it is a weekday and
that the season ticket holder is not recorded as having already entered this
car park and not left. If all these checks are passed, then the barrier is raised.
The checks must take no longer than five seconds. A record is made of the
time of entry for that season ticket holder.
A sensor on the other side of the barrier detects when the car has passed and
the barrier is lowered.
The ticket issued to each ordinary customer has a bar code on it. The bar
code has a number on it and the date (ddmmyyyy) and time (hhmmss) of

CATASTROPHIC HARM
Many thousands of nuclear
weapons remain in the world,
despite the end of the cold
war. The detonation of just
one nuclear bomb over a
large city could kill more than
a million people. The use
of tens or hundreds could
disrupt the global climate,
causing widespread agricultural
collapse and famine. No matter
the scale of the attack, an
adequate humanitarian response
would not be possible. Given
the catastrophic effects of
nuclear weapons, banning and
eradicating them is the only
responsible course of action.
FULFILLING OBLIGATIONS
International law obliges all
nations to pursue in good faith
and conclude negotiations for
nuclear disarmament. However,
the nuclear-armed nations have
so far failed to present a clear
road map to a nuclear-weapon-
free world. All are investing
heavily in the modernization of
their nuclear forces, with the
apparent intention of retaining
them for many decades to
come. Continued failure on
disarmament is not an option.
So long as nuclear weapons exist,
there is a real danger they will
be used again – by accident or
intent. A ban is urgently needed.

The Bank of America is the first true national retail banking brand in the United States. Over the last two decades, the bank has grown dramatically, primarily through acquisitions. It began as the small regional North Carolina National Bank and has become one of the largest companies in the world. As a financial institution, it serves individual consumers, small- and middle-market businesses, and large corporations with a full range of banking, investing, asset management, and other financial and risk-management products and services. Following the acquisition of Merrill Lynch on January 1, 2009, Bank of America is among the world’s leading wealth management companies and is a global leader in corporate and investment banking and trading across a broad range of asset classes serving corporations, governments, institutions, and individuals around the world. The company serves clients in more than 150 countries.
In this chapter, we will describe the Bank of America’s executive on-boarding programs. Through a multi-phased approach supported by comprehensive feedback and coaching mechanisms, the bank’s programs have proven highly effective at both pre-empting leadership failures and for accelerating the knowledge and relationships necessary to step into an executive role. Our insights are drawn from an in-depth case analysis of these on-boarding programs at the Bank of America.
Company Background
The Bank of America example is one of the most comprehensive approaches to executive on-boarding in the field today. It also has a proven track record of seven years with successful results. For example, the Bank of America hired 196 externally hired executives between 2001 and May 2008 and had experienced twenty-four terminations—a new hire turnover rate of approximately 12 percent. This compares to estimates as high as 40 percent turnover in large corporations (Watkins, 2003). On November 5th, right after halftime against the Hawks, I had a panic attack.
It came out of nowhere. I’d never had one before. I didn’t even know if they were real. But it was real — as real as a broken hand or a sprained ankle. Since that day, almost everything about the way I think about my mental health has changed.

I’ve never been comfortable sharing much about myself. I turned 29 in September and for pretty much 29 years of my life I have been protective about anything and everything in my inner life. I was comfortable talking about basketball — but that came natural. It was much harder to share personal stuff, and looking back now I know I could have really benefited from having someone to talk to over the years. But I didn’t share — not to my family, not to my best friends, not in public. Today, I’ve realized I need to change that. I want to share some of my thoughts about my panic attack and what’s happened since. If you’re suffering silently like I was, then you know how it can feel like nobody really gets it. Partly, I want to do it for me, but mostly, I want to do it because people don’t talk about mental health enough. And men and boys are probably the farthest behind.
I know it from experience. Growing up, you figure out really quickly how a boy is supposed to act. You learn what it takes to “be a man.” It’s like a playbook: Be strong. Don’t talk about your feelings. Get through it on your own. So for 29 years of my life, I followed that playbook. And look, I’m probably not telling you anything new here. These values about men and toughness are so ordinary that they’re everywhere … and invisible at the same time, surrounding us like air or water. They’re a lot like depression or anxiety in that way.
So for 29 years, I thought about mental health as someone else’s problem. Sure, I knew on some level that some people benefited from asking for help or opening up. I just never thought it was for me. To me, it was form of weakness that could derail my success in sports or make me seem weird or different.

Starting in 1984 with a defunct refrigerator factory in Qingdao, a port city in China’s Shandong province, founder and CEO Zhang Ruimin built Haier Group (Haier)a into China’s largest home appliance (white goods) maker before launching operations overseas in the 1990s. Haier developed a formal global expansion strategy beginning in 1997, when Zhang announced his “three thirds” goal of having Haier revenue come equally from goods produced and sold in China, goods produced in China and sold overseas, and goods produced and sold overseas. This announcement came amid three decades of booming economic growth in China that began with agricultural reforms in 1978. The reform program then extended to the creation of special economic zones for manufacturing and trade, the rise of small collective businesses, and the privatization of state-owned industry in the 1980s. The reforms of the 1990s included tax and currency restructuring and policies to facilitate foreign enterprise, free trade, and the growth of equity markets.1
From 1980 to 2010, China’s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an average annual rate of nearly 10%, lifting hundreds of millions of people out of extreme poverty and creating an urban middle class.2 By 2010, the Chinese economy was the world’s second largest, measured by GDP at purchasing power parity (PPP), and analysts expected it to exceed the size of the U.S. economy within decades.3 While per capita disposable income was substantial in 2010, however, some geographic regions in China were still relatively poor on a per capita basis. However, it is important not to make the patient feel different than any other patient, even though they may have different needs. The environment as a whole will encompass everything from the entryway door to the exam room, operating room, recovery room and all the supplies needed such as scales and scanners as well as nutritional services. “When planning for bariatric patients, whether in long-term care or acute care settings, caregivers will need to have access to appropriate weight-rated and sized equipment” (Muir, Archer-Heese, 2009).

Coupled with vigorous campaigns by biotech firms, the belief in GMO continued to grow and spread to all parts of the world, leading to an increase in the use of GMOs. But, is GMO really good or bad? GMOs are absolutely bad and their use should be banned. They are bad because they pose unknown health consequences, contaminate our gene pools, reduces genetic diversity, and destroys our environment and most importantly, due to the skewed practices of biotech firms.
First, GMOs use need be banned due to their unknown health consequences. It is never a secret that every one of us would like to consume something that is safe. However, Scientist have failed to show that GMOs are safe for human consumption and eating them may have undesired consequences. According to Dr. Doris Lin (2016), the amount of time that scientist spend in testing for the safety of GMOs is short and, therefore, cannot be enough to prove the safety of GMOs. Numerous human studies have shown that traces of materials from genetically modified food are left on our system when we consume them. These materials, according to Jeffrey Smith (2011), have the possibility of causing more problems in our bodies. The unhealthy risks of GMO has been shown by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) action of arguing doctors not to prescribe GMO diet to their patients. AAEM understands the side effects that comes with consuming GMO. For instance, they cite animal studies which have revealed gastrointestinal disorders, immune disorders, organ damages, infertility and accelerated aging as the reason for recommending non-GMO prescribed diet to patients. I believe these unhealthy risks of GMO food can also affect a healthy person. The health risks of GMO can also be confirmed by the current trends in the health of the population. The current health trend indicates an upward increase in the incidence of chronic diseases and conditions world-wide. Chronic diseases and conditions such as stroke, cancer, arthritis, chronic respiratory diseases, heart disease, obesity and diabetes are now more prevalent than never before. These diseases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are now the leading cause of mortality as they contribute to about 60% of all deaths. As most organizations become more successful it becomes the natural them to expand both their products on their services as a way of claiming more of the market share. CVS health is one such company who has established is strong name and house built in well-organized. As parts of the current expansion of fun at CVS health, we have decided to expand our services to now include intensive childcare services. After a thorough evaluation of our customer's needs through observation question in online services we have determined that the expanding of our services to know include this year would bring tremendous value to the medical experience. We would include child interaction services from 6 months to 12 years for standard low flat fees, the new service will allow parents and guardians to leave their kids in a safe enjoyable environments.
This new service would require parents to register their kids to using the service for the first time however the registration process is not a difficult one. This allows CVS health to verify parent’s information and ensure that all stated specific requirements are being met. This childcare service will provide age appropriate care which would include constant supervision. Care would be given in a comfortable atmosphere that will be climate controlled, toys and games would help stimulate the children's minds, and there will also be television and snacks that would be provided at no additional cost. Given that the safety of all kids and enrolled in this program is of paramount importance there would be one associate for every four children at our facilities.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. In her hilarious and lighthearted book, Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 Into a
Billion Dollar Business, Barbara Corcoran demonstrates the importance of knowing what
you really want out of life (Corcoran & Littlefield, 2011). As her title suggests, Barbara
founded her real estate company, The Corcoran Group, with only $1,000 and some big
dreams. Shortly after founding the company, Barbara took out a piece of paper and wrote
down some big goals for herself and the company. In 1978, she had only 14 sales agents
working for her, who earned a total of $250,000 in commissions. She set a goal of
doubling the number of agents and the commissions every year. So she put down 28 sales
people for 1979, 56 for 1980, and so on, all the way up to 1,792 salespeople in 1985 with
total commissions of $32,000,000. Barbara was amazed when she saw the fantastic sums
projected for 1985, and of course many people, when they see such amazing sums, would
dismiss the calculations as fantasy But as Barbara put it, she went to work the next day
hustling hard for her $32 million.
Real estate agents are paid largely by commission, which is about as close as you
can get to a pure form of contingent reward for performance. However, Barbara didn’t
rely solely on the commissions to motivate her workers. She threw theme parties and held
numerous social events to build a committed workforce. Good sales agents could always
move to another firm, but not every firm had Barbara’s positive attitude and fun-filled
atmosphere. In the early years of the firm, when money was tight, Barbara and her
relatives did the cooking for the outings and parties, and she found clever ways to
entertain people with skating parties and other lively activities. As the firm became larger
and more profitable, she even hired professional entertainers for the company’s midweek
picnics, which included elephant shows, daring rides on hot air balloons, horses, or
Harley Davidsons, etc. Barbara stated “I built my company on pure fun, and believe that
fun is the most underutilized motivational tool in business today. All of my best ideas
came when I was playing outside the office with the people I worked with” (Corcoran &
Littlefield, 2011, p. 283). What did she get in return for the fun atmosphere? She had the
“most profitable real estate company per person in the United States” (p. 284). By the

I wanted desperately to make CRACKING INDIA into a film, a particular film, EARTH, which would be the second in my trilogy of the elements of Fire, Earth and Water.
Tracing Bapsi was no easy task but persevere we did and soon I was talking to Bapsi on the phone, hoping that the film rights to her book were still available. Two months later, thanks to David Hamilton's unwavering belief in the project, we owned the rights, had development funds, and I was sitting at my kitchen table, writing the screenplay of EARTH.
David and Anne Masson and I had worked together on FIRE and we re-assembled the team to begin the detailed planning of the production.
During this phase Bapsi became a friend and was exceedingly generous with information and old photographs. She would talk with me for hours about what it was like growing up in Lahore during those times. Lenny, after all, was based on Bapsi. In fact, Lenny was Bapsi.
The irony of our situation hasn't escaped Bapsi or myself. Bapsi is from Pakistan and now a US citizen. I'm from India and now living in Canada. If neither of us had moved from our respective homelands, the film just wouldn't have been possible. Pakistan and India, since the Partition of 1947, are sworn enemies. Not only have they fought three major wars against each other, but also, as I write this, both countries talk blithely about their nuclear capabilities and continue their militant aggression against each other across the still- disputed Kashmir border.

Barriers of therapeutic relationship:
The therapeutic relationship between patient and nurse is often filled with barriers that can generate obstacles for the relationship and, in the end, the health system as a whole (Sfoggia et al.,2014). There are many factors that hinder building a therapeutic relationship: language, professional jargon, communication impairment, and cultural diversity (ibid).
Language:
Language can be an obstacle to nurse-patient communication because a patient may not be able to speak the same language and therefore communication is not possible (Levin,2006). The best way to overcome this barrier is providing a translator who can explain a professional facilitator's message easily to the patient(ibid). For instance, if the nurse only speaks English but the patient is only able to speak Arabic, a translation to the patient of what the professional facilitator is saying leads to less chance of misunderstanding (ibid). Translation also allows a patient to feel comfortable through being able to speak in their own language (ibid).
Medical jargon:
Jargon is a technical language that is comprehended by people in a specific industry or area of work (Leblanc et al.,2014). Health professionals often use jargon to communicate with each other(ibid). For example, T.B. disease stands for tubercle bacillus and HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus (Mccrary & Christensen,1993). Jargon often makes sense to health professionals but a patient who does not understand these acronyms will not understand such communication, leading to a barrier in therapeutic relationship between patient and health professional (Leblanc et al.,2014).
Communication impairment:
Patients with communication impairment such as blindness, deafness and speech impairment often feel isolated, frustrated and self-conscious (O’Halloran et al.,2009). Some patients are born with such disabilities or have developed them as a result of disease (ibid). Therefore, nurses should provide enough time in order to describe any issue to such patients so that they do not feel uncomfortable or censured by health professionals, who must remain impartial (ibid).
Cultural diversity:
Patients often have various differences (Leblanc et al.,2014).Some of these differences are due to a patient's illness, social status, economic class, education and personality(ibid). However, according to Kirkham (1998), the deepest differences might be cultural diversity. Beheri (2009) points out that many nurses believe if they just treat patients with respect, they will avoid most cultural issues. Nevertheless, avoiding misunderstanding can be achieved through some knowledge of cultural customs, which might help and enable nurses to provide better health care to patients (ibid).

Critical Analysis of the religious nature of Buddhism
The religious community often debates on whether Buddhism is categorized as a religion or as philosophical teaching. The answer to the question varies depending on an individual’s point of view. There are three main types of Buddhism practices across the world with each of them having smaller branches with slights variances in their teachings and beliefs. The different styles of Buddhist mainly encompass Theravada Buddhism, Vajrayana Buddhism, and Mahayana Buddhism. The various forms often have deities that are worshipped while others do not. Some often have scriptures while others do not usually believe in any physical form of the Buddhist teachings. The first article is authored by Rachel, a blogger, presenting the argument that Buddhism is a religion (Rachel, 1). On the other hand, the second article authored by Pamela Winfield recognizes Buddhism as a philosophy. Analyzing and comparing the two pieces having divergent views on the religious nature of Buddhism is crucial for understanding whether it is a religion or philosophy.
Summary of the articles
Rachel in her article considers Buddhism as a religion. The author acknowledges the fact that Mahayana Buddhism which is often found in greater part of Asia that includes Japan, Korea, and China often teaches on attaining enlightenment (Rachel, 1). The Mahayana often accept that every individual wishes to ensure the effective attainment of enlightenment and thus end the cycle of rebirth which others recognize as “Karma.” The article proceeds to state that Buddha is the greatest of the deities but is not worshipped. Instead, Buddha often inspires all those who practice doing as he once did. The author states that Buddhism often requires that the individuals that choose the wrong path attempt to re-accomplish these tasks in their next life alongside other punishments imposed on them by karma. The characteristics of this type of Buddhism thus often play a significant role in showing the religious nature of Buddhism. The author concludes by stating that Buddhism often contains all the different elements of a religion. Moreover, the article associates Buddhism with fallacies that characterize other religions and just as dangerous as other religions as well. A quote proves the claim on the dangerous nature of Buddhism that the author uses to summarize the teachings of Buddhism.

Barchester City Council Car Park System
Barchester City Council operates seven car parks in the centre of Barchester.
The Council has a requirement for a new system to control its car parks. This
system must provide for the day-to-day operation of each car park—issuing
tickets, handling payment and controlling barriers—and the management of
car parks—recording problems, issuing season tickets and monitoring service
level agreements with the security company that guards the car parks.
Operational System
The car park operational system controls entry to and exit from a car park and
payment for car parking.
There are two types of users: ordinary customers, who pay for their use of
each car park at the time they use it, and season ticket holders, who pay a
fixed amount in advance for parking for three, six or twelve months in a
specific car park. Season ticket holders are allocated parking spaces in
designated areas that are not available to ordinary customers from Monday to
Friday. Season tickets are for weekdays only; the designated spaces are
available to all customers at week-ends. No more than 10% of the spaces in
a car park are allocated to season ticket holders.
Entry to the Car Park
When a car approaches an entry barrier, its presence is detected by a sensor
under the road surface, and a ‘Press Button’ display is flashed on the control
pillar.
The ordinary customer must press a button on the control pillar, and a ticket is
printed and issued. The ticket must be printed within five seconds. A ‘Take
Ticket’ display is flashed on the control pillar. If the car park is full, no ticket is
issued, and a ‘Full’ display is flashed on the control pillar. If a vehicle leaves
the car park, then the ‘Press Button’ display is activated again where there is
a vehicle waiting.
When the customer pulls the ticket from the control pillar, the barrier is raised.
The season ticket holder does not press the button, but inserts his or her
season ticket into a slot on the control pillar. A check is made that the season
ticket is valid for this car park and has not expired, that it is a weekday and
that the season ticket holder is not recorded as having already entered this
car park and not left. If all these checks are passed, then the barrier is raised.
The checks must take no longer than five seconds. A record is made of the
time of entry for that season ticket holder.
A sensor on the other side of the barrier detects when the car has passed and
the barrier is lowered.
The ticket issued to each ordinary customer has a bar code on it. The bar
code has a number on it and the date (ddmmyyyy) and time (hhmmss) of

destruction not yet prohibited
by an international convention,
even though they have the
greatest destructive capacity
of all weapons. A global ban
on nuclear weapons is long
overdue and can be achieved
in the near future with enough
public pressure and political
leadership. A ban would not only
make it illegal for nations to use
or possess nuclear weapons; it
would also help pave the way
to their complete elimination.
Nations committed to reaching
the goal of abolition should
begin negotiating a ban now.
CATASTROPHIC HARM
Many thousands of nuclear
weapons remain in the world,
despite the end of the cold
war. The detonation of just
one nuclear bomb over a
large city could kill more than
a million people. The use
of tens or hundreds could
disrupt the global climate,
causing widespread agricultural
collapse and famine. No matter
the scale of the attack, an
adequate humanitarian response
would not be possible. Given
the catastrophic effects of
nuclear weapons, banning and
eradicating them is the only
responsible course of action.
FULFILLING OBLIGATIONS
International law obliges all
nations to pursue in good faith
and conclude negotiations for
nuclear disarmament. However,
the nuclear-armed nations have
so far failed to present a clear
road map to a nuclear-weapon-
free world. All are investing
heavily in the modernization of
their nuclear forces, with the
apparent intention of retaining
them for many decades to
come. Continued failure on
disarmament is not an option.
So long as nuclear weapons exist,
there is a real danger they will
be used again – by accident or
intent. A ban is urgently needed.

INTRODUCTION
The Bank of America is the first true national retail banking brand in the United States. Over the last two decades, the bank has grown dramatically, primarily through acquisitions. It began as the small regional North Carolina National Bank and has become one of the largest companies in the world. As a financial institution, it serves individual consumers, small- and middle-market businesses, and large corporations with a full range of banking, investing, asset management, and other financial and risk-management products and services. Following the acquisition of Merrill Lynch on January 1, 2009, Bank of America is among the world’s leading wealth management companies and is a global leader in corporate and investment banking and trading across a broad range of asset classes serving corporations, governments, institutions, and individuals around the world. The company serves clients in more than 150 countries.
In this chapter, we will describe the Bank of America’s executive on-boarding programs. Through a multi-phased approach supported by comprehensive feedback and coaching mechanisms, the bank’s programs have proven highly effective at both pre-empting leadership failures and for accelerating the knowledge and relationships necessary to step into an executive role. Our insights are drawn from an in-depth case analysis of these on-boarding programs at the Bank of America.
Company Background
The Bank of America example is one of the most comprehensive approaches to executive on-boarding in the field today. It also has a proven track record of seven years with successful results. For example, the Bank of America hired 196 externally hired executives between 2001 and May 2008 and had experienced twenty-four terminations—a new hire turnover rate of approximately 12 percent. This compares to estimates as high as 40 percent turnover in large corporations (Watkins, 2003). The Bank of America has tested its approaches out on a very large sample of on-boarded executives—over five hundred internal and external over the last seven years. Over the last decade, the Bank of America has been actively involved in acquisitions as well as organic growth. On November 5th, right after halftime against the Hawks, I had a panic attack.
It came out of nowhere. I’d never had one before. I didn’t even know if they were real. But it was real — as real as a broken hand or a sprained ankle. Since that day, almost everything about the way I think about my mental health has changed.

I’ve never been comfortable sharing much about myself. I turned 29 in September and for pretty much 29 years of my life I have been protective about anything and everything in my inner life. I was comfortable talking about basketball — but that came natural. It was much harder to share personal stuff, and looking back now I know I could have really benefited from having someone to talk to over the years. But I didn’t share — not to my family, not to my best friends, not in public. Today, I’ve realized I need to change that. I want to share some of my thoughts about my panic attack and what’s happened since. If you’re suffering silently like I was, then you know how it can feel like nobody really gets it. Partly, I want to do it for me, but mostly, I want to do it because people don’t talk about mental health enough. And men and boys are probably the farthest behind.
I know it from experience. Growing up, you figure out really quickly how a boy is supposed to act. You learn what it takes to “be a man.” It’s like a playbook: Be strong. Don’t talk about your feelings. Get through it on your own. So for 29 years of my life, I followed that playbook. And look, I’m probably not telling you anything new here. These values about men and toughness are so ordinary that they’re everywhere … and invisible at the same time, surrounding us like air or water. They’re a lot like depression or anxiety in that way.
So for 29 years, I thought about mental health as someone else’s problem. Sure, I knew on some level that some people benefited from asking for help or opening up. I just never thought it was for me. To me, it was form of weakness that could derail my success in sports or make me seem weird or different.

Starting in 1984 with a defunct refrigerator factory in Qingdao, a port city in China’s Shandong province, founder and CEO Zhang Ruimin built Haier Group (Haier)a into China’s largest home appliance (white goods) maker before launching operations overseas in the 1990s. Haier developed a formal global expansion strategy beginning in 1997, when Zhang announced his “three thirds” goal of having Haier revenue come equally from goods produced and sold in China, goods produced in China and sold overseas, and goods produced and sold overseas. This announcement came amid three decades of booming economic growth in China that began with agricultural reforms in 1978. The reform program then extended to the creation of special economic zones for manufacturing and trade, the rise of small collective businesses, and the privatization of state-owned industry in the 1980s. The reforms of the 1990s included tax and currency restructuring and policies to facilitate foreign enterprise, free trade, and the growth of equity markets.1
From 1980 to 2010, China’s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an average annual rate of nearly 10%, lifting hundreds of millions of people out of extreme poverty and creating an urban middle class.2 By 2010, the Chinese economy was the world’s second largest, measured by GDP at purchasing power parity (PPP), and analysts expected it to exceed the size of the U.S. economy within decades.3 While per capita disposable income was substantial in 2010, however, some geographic regions in China were still relatively poor on a per capita basis. (See Exhibits 1a and 1b for economic, demographic, and currency data on China.) Most urban households already owned white goods, but in rural China, penetration rates for appliances such as refrigerators still stood at 58.2 units per 100 households, offering room for market growth. The obesity and overweight rate have grown into an epidemic, especially within the US health care system. Not only is this condition impairing the men and women physically, but it is affecting these groups mentally and emotionally. There are specific facility designs and procedures to safeguard the health and well-being of these patients. Two of the most important tools for caring for these patients is the facility design and clinical outcomes for bariatric patients. The growing size of Americans must be addressed through the health care system, and this begins with an appropriate facility space, the proper equipment, adequate training, ramps, and handrails throughout the facility. Also, the available wheelchairs, the clearance through the facility, wider door structures, larger shower stalls, heavy-duty handlebars, reliable heating and cooling units and mounted revisions in the bathroom. Safety and confidence are critical factors in the care of bariatric patients and the design of the facility unit.
Analyze essential environmental elements considered when designing a bariatric facility.
When all essential environmental elements are designed in a facility a safe, respectful healing environment can be created, and patient satisfaction and dignity can be achieved. However, it is important not to make the patient feel different than any other patient, even though they may have different needs. The appropriate care should be taken to the environmental set up for bariatric services. The environment as a whole will encompass everything from the entryway door to the exam room, operating room, recovery room and all the supplies needed such as scales and scanners as well as nutritional services. “When planning for bariatric patients, whether in long-term care or acute care settings, caregivers will need to have access to appropriate weight-rated and sized equipment” (Muir, Archer-Heese, 2009).

When someone is in the process of having the bariatric bypass surgery, any and every equipment and technology is possibly used for the surgery to be successful. The computers are used to log in the information on the vitals, medication and then copied or faxed to the primary doctor of any changes or concerns. The proper lighting is crucial for the surgeon because he has to be able to view the process, so he does not cause any serious problems. Most bariatric surgeries performed by Lazar, a computer is used so that the surgeon can see on the screen where and what he needs to do during the surgery. All the utensils that used already sterilized and prep on a medical cart so the surgeon can reach and get whatever he/she needs to complete a successful surgery.

The issue of whether to ban GMOs has been widely debated for a while now. Despite the ongoing debate, the use of GMOs has continued to increase worldwide, especially in farming. GMOs plantation in US was first introduced for commercial purposes in 1996. During that time, farmers view them as an ideal alternative to their crops as it increased their yields as well as improving efficiency through cutting of cost of herbicides and pesticides. Coupled with vigorous campaigns by biotech firms, the belief in GMO continued to grow and spread to all parts of the world, leading to an increase in the use of GMOs. But, is GMO really good or bad? GMOs are absolutely bad and their use should be banned. They are bad because they pose unknown health consequences, contaminate our gene pools, reduces genetic diversity, and destroys our environment and most importantly, due to the skewed practices of biotech firms.
First, GMOs use need be banned due to their unknown health consequences. It is never a secret that every one of us would like to consume something that is safe. However, Scientist have failed to show that GMOs are safe for human consumption and eating them may have undesired consequences. According to Dr. Doris Lin (2016), the amount of time that scientist spend in testing for the safety of GMOs is short and, therefore, cannot be enough to prove the safety of GMOs. Numerous human studies have shown that traces of materials from genetically modified food are left on our system when we consume them. These materials, according to Jeffrey Smith (2011), have the possibility of causing more problems in our bodies. The unhealthy risks of GMO has been shown by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) action of arguing doctors not to prescribe GMO diet to their patients. AAEM understands the side effects that comes with consuming GMO. For instance, they cite animal studies which have revealed gastrointestinal disorders, immune disorders, organ damages, infertility and accelerated aging as the reason for recommending non-GMO prescribed diet to patients. I believe these unhealthy risks of GMO food can also affect a healthy person. The health risks of GMO can also be confirmed by the current trends in the health of the population. The current health trend indicates an upward increase in the incidence of chronic diseases and conditions world-wide. Chronic diseases and conditions such as stroke, cancer, arthritis, chronic respiratory diseases, heart disease, obesity and diabetes are now more prevalent than never before. These diseases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are now the leading cause of mortality as they contribute to about 60% of all deaths. Conceptualizing a new service
As most organizations become more successful it becomes the natural them to expand both their products on their services as a way of claiming more of the market share. CVS health is one such company who has established is strong name and house built in well-organized. As parts of the current expansion of fun at CVS health, we have decided to expand our services to now include intensive childcare services. After a thorough evaluation of our customer's needs through observation question in online services we have determined that the expanding of our services to know include this year would bring tremendous value to the medical experience. We would include child interaction services from 6 months to 12 years for standard low flat fees, the new service will allow parents and guardians to leave their kids in a safe enjoyable environments.
This new service would require parents to register their kids to using the service for the first time however the registration process is not a difficult one. This allows CVS health to verify parent’s information and ensure that all stated specific requirements are being met. This childcare service will provide age appropriate care which would include constant supervision. Care would be given in a comfortable atmosphere that will be climate controlled, toys and games would help stimulate the children's minds, and there will also be television and snacks that would be provided at no additional cost. Given that the safety of all kids and enrolled in this program is of paramount importance there would be one associate for every four children at our facilities.
Strategic Direction
As our company has grown to over 1.3 million employees and over 5000 stores in many countries around the world we have been able to serve and support both our customers and associates by making them a priority and ensuring that we give back to the communities that we serve. Wal-Mart’s strategy includes improving the quality of goods we provides as well as the quality of the services we provide to both our employees and customers. By investing in our people we can ignite a sense of ownership as it will be an even better place to work and the pride and loyalty they feel towards the company would propel our company to new heights by becoming the number one retailer in the country. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
