Over recent years there has been a considerable shift, from quality of service (QoS) to quality of experience (QoE), when evaluating video delivery across networks. Hence, we first explore the need for this shift towards user-QoE in the video delivery ecosystem. Further, we investigate major QoE metrics researchers use in the evaluation of DASH users. We point out a huge problem with DASH beginning with its transport layer protocol. DASH utilizes Transmission control protocol (TCP) as the transport layer protocol. Thus, we give an overview of the mechanism of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and two mechanisms greatly impacting the streaming process: (1) TCP
congestion mechanism and (2) TCP Fast Start. This leads us to investigate the impact of these TCP mechanisms on DASH players and consequently user-QoE.

This document describes a peer-assisted video on demand (VoD) system where users contribute their upload bandwidth to redistribute videos they are downloading or have cached locally. It proposes a fluid model to estimate the server bandwidth required to immediately satisfy all video requests, accounting for peer churn, heterogeneous upload bandwidth, and non-stationary traffic. The model can evaluate sequential delivery as well as controlled nonsequential swarms. It provides insights for efficiently designing peer-assisted VoD systems under server capacity constraints.

Decision Making Analysis of Video Streaming Algorithm for Private Cloud Compu...IJECEIAES
The issue on how to effectively deliver video streaming contents over cloud computing infrastructures is tackled in this study. Basically, quality of service of video streaming is strongly influenced by bandwidth, jitter and data loss problems. A number of intelligent video streaming algorithms are proposed by using different techniques to deal with such issues. This study aims to propose and demonstrate a novel decision making analysis which combines ISO 9126 (international standard for software engineering) and Analytic Hierarchy Process to help experts selecting the best video streaming algorithm for the case of private cloud computing infrastructure. The given case study concluded that Scalable Streaming algorithm is the best algorithm to be implemented for delivering high quality of service of video streaming over the private cloud computing infrastructure.
4. Quantitative comparison of application network interaction.pdfAliIssa53
This research article proposes a methodology to quantitatively compare different application-network interaction (App-Net) mechanisms for managing quality of experience (QoE) of HTTP adaptive streaming. The study develops an evaluation framework to compare three App-Net mechanisms against a baseline HAS service. The comparison explores the trade-offs between QoE gains and implementation complexity, by analyzing metrics like the number of monitoring/control messages, achieved video quality, and fairness among heterogeneous clients. The goal is to facilitate reproducible experiments that provide a holistic evaluation of App-Net mechanisms for QoE management.
This document discusses two real-time streaming protocols - Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) and Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC). It presents a comparative study of these two protocols by developing new mobile applications that implement each protocol on Android. The applications are analyzed based on connection establishment time and stream reception time, which influence quality of service. The applications are also compared to popular video streaming apps to evaluate stream packet delay, with results showing the WebRTC implementation improves upon other apps.
Bandwidth Estimation Techniques for Relative ‘Fair’ Sharing in DASHEswar Publications
In the adaptive video streaming (AVS) literature the term fair sharing has been used to describe equal amounts of bandwidth allocated to adaptive client players. However, we argue that even though bandwidth sharing is an important aspect in some problems the same does not apply to AVS. Here the term relative ‘fair’ sharing is more applicable. The reason is that videos have different quality levels and will require differing amounts of the bandwidth to satisfy their needs. A 90% to 10% sharing may be sufficient for two players, one with high demands and the other with low demands. A 50% sharing may lead the player with the high bandwidth demand to get too little of the needed bandwidth resource. In addition, channel conditions may lead to players requiring different amount of bandwidth. Again, the concept of fair sharing has to be extended to relative ‘fair’ sharing for such scenarios. Hence, bandwidth estimation techniques players use to estimate the network bandwidth is very important in segment selection. A player utilizes one of the many techniques to determine what share of the bandwidth it can utilize among competing players. In this paper we explore some of the techniques used in state of-the-art players in their attempt to obtain a ‘fair’ share of the network bandwidth.
HARDWARE SOFTWARE CO-SIMULATION OF MOTION ESTIMATION IN H.264 ENCODERcscpconf
This paper proposes about motion estimation in H.264/AVC encoder. Compared with standards
such as MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 Visual, H.264 can deliver better image quality at the same
compressed bit rate or at a lower bit rate. The increase in compression efficiency comes at the
expense of increase in complexity, which is a fact that must be overcome. An efficient Co-design
methodology is required, where the encoder software application is highly optimized and
structured in a very modular and efficient manner, so as to allow its most complex and time
consuming operations to be offloaded to dedicated hardware accelerators. The Motion
Estimation algorithm is the most computationally intensive part of the encoder which is simulated using MATLAB. The hardware/software co-simulation is done using system generator tool and implemented using Xilinx FPGA Spartan 3E for different scanning methods.

The Effect of Seeking Operation on QoE of HTTP Adaptive Streaming ServicesIJCNCJournal
In this paper, we assess multidimensional QoE (Quality of Experience) of HTTP-based streaming services
in seeking operation to evaluate the effect of two transmission schemes: adaptive bitrate streaming and
progressive download. We perform a subjective experiment with two contents and various network load
conditions. In the experiment, subjects find pre-specified scenes by means of seeking the video as they want
to see the scenes right now. We also perform the principal component analysis for the assessment result of
multidimensional QoE. We then find that the adaptive bitrate streaming is not necessarily effective for QoE
enhancement; the effectiveness of the scheme depends on the usage of the system and network conditions.

Real Time Head Generation for Video ConferencingIRJET Journal
This document proposes a real-time video synthesis model for video conferencing that reconstructs video at the receiver end to maintain a steady experience. It extracts and retargets motion from sender video frame by frame and synthesizes video on the receiver end using the first image and motion keypoints. This allows it to transfer facial expressions, head poses, and eye movements between videos using less bandwidth than standard H.264 video. The model uses WebRTC for peer-to-peer connections and a first-order motion model to extract and apply motion from one video to another in real-time for live video conferencing.
1. A Survey on Bitrate Adaptation Schemes for Streaming Media over HTTP.pdfAliIssa53
This document summarizes a survey on bitrate adaptation schemes for streaming media over HTTP. It classifies bitrate adaptation schemes into four categories: client-based, server-based, network-assisted, and hybrid. Client-based schemes execute the bitrate adaptation logic at the client, while server-based schemes use feedback from the server. Network-assisted schemes use feedback from the network, and hybrid schemes combine client and server/network techniques. The survey provides an overview and comparison of different bitrate adaptation methods proposed in recent years.
With the recent surge in Internet multimedia traffic, the enhancement and improvement of media players, specifically DASH media players happened at an incredible rate. DASH Media players take advantage of adapting a media stream to the network fluctuations by continuously monitoring the network and making decisions in near real-time. The performance of algorithms that are in charge of making such decisions was often difficult to be evaluated and objectively assessed.
CAdViSE provides a Cloud-based Adaptive Video Streaming Evaluation framework for the automated testing of adaptive media players. In this talk, I will introduce the CAdViSE framework, its application, and propose the benefits and advantages that it can bring to every web-based media player development pipeline. To demonstrate the power of CAdViSE in evaluating Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) algorithms I will exhibit its capabilities when combined with objective Quality of Experience (QoE) models. For this talk, my team at Bitmovin/ATHENA has selected the ITU-T P.1203 (mode 1) model in order to execute experiments and calculate the Mean Opinion Score (MOS), and better understand the behavior of a set of well-known ABR algorithms in a real-life setting. The talk will display how we tested and deployed our framework using a modular architecture into a cloud infrastructure. This method yields a massive growth to the number of concurrent experiments and the number of media players that can be evaluated and compared at the same time, thus enabling maximum potential scalability. In my team’s most recent experiments, we used Amazon Web Services (AWS) for demonstration purposes. Another awesome feature of CAdViSE that will be discussed here is the ability to shape the test network with endless network profiles. To do so, we used a fluctuation network profile and a real LTE network trace based on the recorded internet usage of a bicycle commuter in Belgium.
CAdViSE produces comprehensive logs for each media streaming experimental session. These logs can then be applied against different goals, such as objective evaluation to stitch back media segments and conduct subjective evaluations afterwards. In addition, startup delays, stall events, and other media streaming defects can be imitated exactly as they happened during the experimental streaming sessions.
A distortion resistant routing framework for video traffic in wireless multih...Pvrtechnologies Nellore
This paper proposes a routing framework that aims to minimize video distortion for wireless multihop networks carrying video traffic. The framework first develops an analytical model that maps packet loss probabilities on network links to expected frame losses and resulting video distortion. It then formulates the routing problem as an optimization to find paths that minimize end-to-end distortion. Based on this, the paper designs a practical routing protocol that collects distortion information and routes different video frames along paths experiencing the least congestion in order to reduce overall distortion. Simulations and testbed experiments show the protocol can increase PSNR by up to 20% and mean opinion scores by 2-3x compared to traditional routing schemes.

Improvement in Error Resilience in BIST using hamming codeIJMTST Journal
In the current scenario of IP core based SoC, to test the CUT we need to communication link between Circuit Under Test and ATPG, so before applying to actual DUT. If there is a problem with this link, there may be a lip in bit of test data. Compared to original test data, if there is a bit lip in the original data, the codeword may change and hence the decompressed data will have a large number of bit deviation. This deviation in bits can severely degrade the test quality and overall fault coverage which may affect yield. The error resilience is the capability of the test data to resist against such bit lips. Here in this paper, the earlier methods of error resilience is compared and a Hamming code based error resilience technique is proposed to improve the error resilience capacity of compressed test data. This method is applied on Huffman code based compressed test data of widely used ISCAS benchmark circuits. The fault coverage measurement results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The basic goal here is to survey the effect of bit lips on fault coverage and prepare a platform for further development in this avenue.
Action event retrieval from cricket video using audio energy feature for even...IAEME Publication
This document summarizes a research paper that proposes an audio-based approach for retrieving action events from cricket videos. The approach detects action events by measuring abnormal increases in audio energy levels during batsman strokes and crowd cheers. The researchers extract audio features like MFCC coefficients and calculate audio energy values from cricket video soundtracks. Peaks in energy levels are detected to find action clips corresponding to strokes and cheers. The experiments analyze cricket videos and show the method can efficiently retrieve action events using only audio analysis of crowd noise and bat impacts.

The method was tested on a dataset of cricket videos and results showed it can efficiently retrieve events like strokes and crowd reactions.
Mobile network operators face challenges balancing network capacity growth and revenue growth. Most network operators have deployed media/content optimization as a blunt instrument for cost containment rather than an intelligent approach that improves customer experience and allows for service personalization based on real-time business rules. Intelligent media optimization that supports a variety of stakeholders through flexible evolution can provide network operators a better path forward by both reducing investment costs and raising revenues.

This document discusses dynamic cloud pricing for revenue maximization. It first discusses how static pricing is currently dominant but dynamic pricing could improve revenue. It then outlines three contributions: 1) an empirical study finding Amazon spot prices are not set by market demand, motivating developing market-driven dynamic mechanisms, 2) formulating revenue maximization as a stochastic dynamic program to characterize optimal conditions, and 3) extending the model to consider non-homogeneous demand.

Adaptive Video Streaming With Festive
Abstract
Modern video players today rely on bit-rate adaptation in order to respond to changing network
conditions. Past measurement studies have identified issues with today's commercial players when
multiple bit-rate-adaptive players share a bottleneck link with respect to three metrics: fairness, efficiency,
and stability. Unfortunately, our current understanding of why these effects occur and how they can be
mitigated is quite limited. In this paper, we present a principled understanding of bit-rate adaptation and
analyze several commercial players through the lens of an abstract player model consisting of three main
components: bandwidth estimation, bit-rate selection, and chunk scheduling. Using framework, we
identify the root causes of several undesirable interactions that arise as a consequence of overlaying the
video bit-rate adaptation over HTTP. Building on these insights, we develop a suite of techniques that can
systematically guide the tradeoffs between stability, fairness, and efficiency and thus lead to a general
framework for robust video adaptation. We pick one concrete instance from this design space and show
that it significantly outperforms today's commercial players on all three key metrics across a range of
experimental scenarios.
