Islamic civilization had a significant positive impact on the European Renaissance, especially in the areas of science and medicine, where Europeans benefited greatly from Islamic achievements. Despite some Europeans wanting to destroy Islam, Islamic ideas influenced fields like science, medicine, philosophy and literature in Europe. Medical practice in Europe was largely based on Islamic medicine through the work of Jewish and Muslim doctors. Western medicine continued Islamic traditions for many centuries through learning derived from the Muslim world, though this was sometimes denied verbally. Islamic medicine received literary praise in English speaking works by Chaucer and Shakespeare.
