Purpose
This is days classroom course, will teach the student basic structure of database files and how to
code and create physical and logical files, entering the data thru utilitiesin PDM and then produce
reports using the Query for IBM I program product
Audience
This course is intended for end user, Computer / IT Professionals and consultants who wish to
take advantage of the facitlities avaibilities on Query for IBM I to produce reports from a DB2 UDB
on IBM I Operating System and get hands-on experience on it.
Prerequisites
Before Taking this course, a student should attend a classof iSeries System Operator Fundamental
Workshop (iO10) or having a similar knowledge/
Course Objectives
After completing this course, you should be able to :
 Understand the basic structures of databases physical and logical file
 Code DDS and create a database file using PDM/SEU
 Enter the data records to database using PDM/DFU or using copy file from others databases
file.
 List the major features and functions of Query for IBM i
 Define a query with multiple break levels and summary calculations
 Define a query with result fields that are computed using arithmetic calculations
 Embed a field name in break text
 Perform summary calculations on result fields
 Use data, time and timestamp expressions in result fields.
 Use data-type fields in query
 Compute the date duration between two fields the contain dates, but which are character or
numeric fields, not date-type fields.
 Use the DIGITS function to return the character representation of a number
 Use substring and concatenation operatios to manipulatecharacter fields.
 Join three in one query
 Defone queries for all three of joins allowed
 Define a query with fields of length zero so it will not show in the detail lines of a report
