1. Ideas For Actors Within Our Slasher Film
Within our slasher film, we are trying to stick to conventions by following common character
traits that are associated within this particular genre. Slasher conventions appear in all of the
films and so are easily recognisable to the audience.
Killer - The killer within the slasher genre is usually a large scary individual who is very tall in
comparison to their victims and wears a mask. Due to these conventions of the killer,
Matthew is the ideal actor to play this part as he could wear large clothes to look bigger and
he is a very tall individual. This can be used to show his dominance over the victims in the
trailer. He is also a confident actor that is comfortable acting crazy throughout the film trailer.
First Girl - The first girl in slasher is another common convention that has been used over
many years. The first girl is usually the stereotypical flirt and slut and so will die the most
painful, slow and gruesome way. The actor who plays this character is conventionally blonde
and wears stereotypically revealing clothes. We have chosen to use Hannah to play this
character within our slasher film as she is blonde, and so would not require a wig.
Final Girl - The final girl in horror films is perhaps the most important role and iconic of them
all. The final girl is stereotypically the mentally strongest character and is tormented by the
killer throughout the film. Scarlett will be acting as this character throughout the trailer as she
has dark hair (which is a convention of the final girl) and is a confident actor.
The Nerd - Conventionally, most slasher films tend to have a ‘nerd’ of of the group of
friends. In our slasher film, Katy will play the nerd as we would like to stick to conventions so
it is easily recognisable to its sub-genre. We will think carefully about the costume with this
character otherwise it will not be recognisable. She will wear glasses to begin with before
they are ripped off of her face, leaving her unable to clearly see - which will work to the
killers advantage. She also wears braces, and so would help when creating a conventional
nerd for the trailer.
Other Victims - Other victims throughout the film are used to add suspense and mystery to
the film and portray how ruthless and scary the villain is. Other people that will be killed
throughout or trailer (victims) will include Katy and Phoebe. They will be brutally murdered to
try and portray fear to the audience and follow conventions. Phoebe’s character will be a
stereotypically normal student that that dies throughout the trailer for the target audiences
entertainment and fear.
Conventionally in slasher films, groups are targeted. Within the groups, there are lots of
stereotypes that is conventional to have - most of these are listed above for the slasher
genre. In our film trailer, we aim to follow the conventions that have been set by following the
correct order and sequences of deaths so attract slasher fans.
