1. IDEAS FOR ACTORS
Within our slasher film, we are trying to abide by conventions by following common character
traits that are associated within this particular genre. Slasher conventions appear in all of the
films and so are easily recognisable to the audience.
Killer - The killer within the slasher genre is usually a large scary individual who is very tall in
comparison to their victims and wears a mask. Due to these conventions of the killer, our
villain we have chosen is ideal to play this part as he can wear large clothes to look bigger
and he is a very tall individual. This can be used to show his dominance over the victims in
the trailer. He is also a confident actor that is comfortable acting crazy throughout the film
trailer.
First Girl - The first girl in slasher is another common convention that has been used over
many years. The first girl is usually stereotypically flirty and a slut; she will therefore die in
the most painful, slow and gruesome way. The actor who plays this character is
conventionally blonde and wears stereotypically revealing clothes. We have chosen to use a
blonde character for this as she fits the profile and is able to dress the part.
Final Girl - The final girl in horror films is perhaps the most iconic character of them all. The
final girl is stereotypically the mentally strongest character and is tormented by the killer
throughout the film. Our character we have chosen will play a stereotypically nerd, she will
wear glasses, have her hair up and be dresses more covered up than for example the first
girl.
The Nerd - Conventionally, most slasher films tend to have a ‘nerd’ of the group. In our
slasher film, we have a girl who is conventionally stereotypical for a nerd. She has braces,
glasses and we will carefully consider costume choice. She will wear glasses to begin with
before they are ripped off of her face, leaving her unable to clearly see - which will work to
the killer’s advantage.
Other Victims - Other victims throughout the film are used to add suspense and mystery to
the film and portray how ruthless and scary the villain is. Other people that will be killed
throughout the trailer (victims) will include other members of the friendship group; they will
be brutally murdered and portray fear to the audience. We will have one specific character
who is a conventionally normal student who will be murdered for the audience’s purpose and
to create even more fear amongst the audience.
