1. Opening sequence
treatment
Tittle, Genre and Inspiration
We have decided to name our opening sequence Underground Kings, this
links in with our film and the topics we will cover within it. It
will fall under the genre drama. We have taken some inspiration from
such films as anvahood and bruvahoood.
Target audience
We will be targeting our film to those aged fifteen to twenty-five.
It will contain some violence and mature themes hence why we
recommend those under the age of fifteen don’t watch it.
Synopsis
A brief summary of our film; a well-known gang in the local area
force the gang leader’s girlfriend to become a set up chick to men
from other gangs. Simply put a set up chick is a women who has a
boyfriend and uses her looks to leer men into a dangerous situation
where they either get robbed or physically injured in some cases
even killed. Laura (the girlfriend) does this until one day she
falls in love with one of the men she was told to set up. After
refusing to set this man up to be killed the gang turn on Laura and
put a hit out on her life. She then has to try and survive with this
gang hunting her. Within our opening sequence we are trying to open
people’s eyes up to gang culture in today’s society.
Directing style
Our opening sequence will be non-linear meaning it won’t be told in
chronological order.
Music
We will be using music in our opening sequence and have emailed the
production companies to ask for permission to use their music. We
will be using “cold” by Jorge Mendez this is a slow tempo sad song
we will then play “savage” by to contrast to our other song choice.
Binary oppositions and themes
Some key themes and binary oppositions within our opening sequence
will be; big vs small, good vs evil and brains vs brawn.
Narration
Throughout our opening sequence we will also have a narrator this
will be from the prospective of Laura, telling us exactly what
happened to lead her to be running away from this gang, she was once
a part of, these boys who were once like family to her now wanting
her dead.
2. Characters
The main character in our opening sequence will be Laura we will
then have two boys one being the Kyle (Laura’s boyfriend) and the
second being the boy she is told to set up but falls in love with,
Henry both these boys will be semi main characters and then lastly
we will have all the extras that will form the gangs these will be
mostly non-speaking parts The main location of our film will be
Cambridge estate along with using other surrounding areas.
MISE EN SCENE
The mise en scene of our opening sequence; Including the lighting,
costumes, colours and props.
Kyle: will be in all black clothing with red shoes we have chosen
these colours as red signifies; violence, danger, anger and power
all things that Kyle shows to us throughout our opening sequence the
power that he holds over the other members of his gang and also over
his girlfriend forcing her to participate in all that she does.
Laura: will also be in all black clothing but will be wearing pink
shoes, the colour pink signify innocence empathy and femininity.
These three topics link to Laura and her characteristics although
she participates in the crimes the gang commit she doesn’t want to
and she shows empathy towards Henry when not helping the gang to set
him up.
Henry: Again Henry will be dressed in all black clothing with
orange shoes this is an important colour choice as the colour orange
connotes the idea of warmth, happiness, friendliness and lastly
sociability. Again all quality’s that henry has. We will also be
incorporating the enigma code, within our opening sequence. For
those that don’t know the enigma code is about leaving your audience
with a sense of mystery, leaving them with a cliff hanger meaning
they will want to watch the whole film. I will be filming our
opening sequence and to follow the theme I will be trying to film it
with dark lighting casting mysterious shadows on the actor’s faces.
The enigma code and how we will use it
The Enigma codes pose questions to the audience which are then
answered shortly after or later on in the film. For example, who is
she? Where is she going? They're questions enabling the audience to
get intrigued with the film and want to find out the answers to
these questions, therefore watching more of it. The Enigma codes
entice the audience to watch the rest of the film as they're curious
as to what will happen next; they also help to move on the
narrative. We will us this code to entice our viewer into wanting to
watch our film in order to answer the questions posed by our opening
sequence.
Equipment and resources
For our opening sequence we will need a camera my group will be
using my own camera which is a Nikon D3200, we will need a tripod
3. also to ensure our footage is sturdy and there are no visible signs
of shaking coming through when watching it back, we will be
borrowing a tripod from our schools media department .My group will
be filming all of our audio on a separate devise as sometimes trying
to film and get the audio together the audio often comes out at a
lower quality. I have practise with filming and editing from me
doing GCSE media so I hope to further these skills in this project.
Problems we could face and how we will overcome them
As we are shooting a lot of our footage outside on Cambridge estate
the weather will really affect the quality of our footage, if it is
very sunny it will come across on the camera and may obstruct our
actors. Another obstacle my group and myself might have to overcome
is the fact we will be shooting on an open estate we might get
coming in and out of our shooting frame this will mean that for
anyone that does this we will have to ask their permission to
include them in our film otherwise we will then have to re-film that
scene.
Summary
To summarise we will be producing an opening sequence on Cambridge
estate focusing on the idea of a set up chick and gang culture.
