This document summarizes the findings of an IDC study on the use of ERP systems in the high-tech manufacturing sector. It finds that business complexity is increasing significantly and will continue to do so. Manufacturers see their greatest challenges as controlling costs and sustaining growth. Their current ERP systems are seen as inflexible and not enabling real-time decision making. To address increasing complexity, manufacturers will need ERP systems that can streamline processes, break down silos, and speed up decisions. They are moving toward single, operational ERP systems combined with social/mobile technologies to transform how they work.
