Stronsay Junior High School, Stronsay, Orkney, KW17 2AE 01857 616 246
Use of ICT Policy
ICT is an integral part of all our lives, and even more so for the children in our care. These
children will be working with technologies that we cannot even imagine as they grow up and
work. Therefore we need to make sure that the children in our care our comfortable and
confident in the application of technology in their everyday lives.
ICT cannot be seen in isolation; children need to see technology as part of their lives. In the
nursery we will encourage them to use technology in this way.
Aims
• Children to be comfortable in the application of technology in the nursery classroom
• The nursery will provide a variety of technological experiences
In planning staff will consider how technology can be used to enhance the children's learning
experiences.
The laptop will be available as a choice for pupils and software and online websites will allow
the pupils to develop their own learning. Children will be encouraged to use the keyboard and
mouse and become familiar with using the Smart board.
Pupils will also be encouraged to play with ICT technology toys such as beebot, CD players,
digital cameras, microphones, calculating till, remote controlled cars and other programmable
toys.
Software use
Only licensed software will be used in the nursery.
Internet
The nursery has a generic password onto the computer which ensures that there is a firewall to
protect the children which has been set by Orkney Islands Council.
Children will be encouraged to develop safe uses of the internet and the computer when in the
school. Website access is restricted and children will learn how to look after the computer
equipment.
Permission will be sought before pupils photos are uploaded to the computer. Pupils will not
be identified within pictures on line.
Staff use of technology
Staff are expected to have a basic competency and ability to use technology. Staff will use the
computers in line with council guidance.
