WebSphere Application Server JBoss TCO analysisShetal Patel
This document analyzes the total cost of ownership of IBM WebSphere Application Server v8.5 compared to JBoss EAP v6 over a five-year period. It finds that WAS ND provides lower overall TCO than JBoss EAP due to advantages in stability, high availability, manageability, documentation and performance. Specifically, the TCO analysis shows WAS ND has a 35% lower total cost of ownership than JBoss EAP in large configurations. While JBoss EAP has a lower initial acquisition cost, the ongoing costs of administration, maintenance, downtime and other factors make it more expensive than WAS ND over the long term.

2109 mobile cloud integrating your mobile workloads with the enterpriseTodd Kaplinger
IBM's mobile cloud platform, Worklight, allows enterprises to integrate their mobile applications with existing backend systems and cloud services. Worklight provides tools to develop both hybrid and native mobile apps that can access enterprise data through adapters. Worklight applications and their backend integrations can be deployed on the IBM PureApplication System, which provides a simplified, repeatable process for configuration and management. This allows Worklight apps to easily consume existing cloud services, such as social and business data APIs, through pre-built integration capabilities.

Liberty Buildpack: Designed for Extension - Integrating your services in Blue...Rohit Kelapure
The Liberty Buildpack aims to remove the hassle of running Java applications on Cloud Foundry whether it is the simplified setup, auto-configuration of Liberty and Java EE references to cloud resources, reduced droplet size through selective provisioning of the runtime, or the zero-touch configuration and usage of services. There are times, however, when an application needs a feature that the buildpack does not yet provide. This talk will start by showing how to use and configure the Java buildpack and finish by showing how to extend the buildpack to ensure that IBM BlueMix Cloud Foundry is the best place to run your application. To build services and integrate them with BlueMix, you must implement the Service Broker API of Cloud Foundry for your services. This talk will explain how to write plugins to the Liberty Buildpack that will auto wire services your organization developed and integrated into CF making it easier for your apps to use the services in Cloud Foundry.

This presentation describes how we see client architectures evolving from traditional IT, to cloud-enabled, to cloud native, with bridges in between. It explains how IBM UrbanCode Deploy enables clients to capture full-stack blueprints for their workloads in a way that is cloud-portable. It will highlight new capabilities in VMWare vCenter, IBM SoftLayer, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Attendees will also see a live demonstration of end-to-end deployment during the talk.
The document provides an overview of new features and functions under development for the WebSphere sMash/Project Zero platform, including:
1) Using Assemble flow and ZRM forms to simplify a travel request collaboration application.
2) Enhancing PHP support and security/notification features in Assemble flow.
3) Improving PHP application performance and support for Eclipse PDT 2.0 for PHP development.
4) Adding platform support for Amazon EC2 and enhancements to the AppBuilder tool.
Chapter 11:Understanding Client-Side TechnologiesIt Academy
The document discusses different client-side technologies for creating thin, fat, and rich clients:
HTML/JavaScript can create thin clients through web pages but are limited by browser capabilities. J2ME MIDlets allow native-like apps on mobile devices but vary across models. Java applets embed rich functionality in web pages but require network access. Swing provides full-featured desktop apps with native look and feel but may not run well on all systems. Each option has tradeoffs around capabilities, deployment, and network dependence.
Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform that provides infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). It supports many programming languages and frameworks. Azure provides global datacenters and networking capabilities to build, deploy, and manage applications and services. Key components of Azure include compute, storage, databases, analytics, artificial intelligence, and more. Users can choose between IaaS, which provides full control of operating systems and platforms, and PaaS, which handles infrastructure maintenance. Azure offers competitive pricing and security while allowing applications to easily scale globally.
IBM's Cloud Manager product now supports OpenStack on the z/VM hypervisor, allowing System z mainframes to be managed as part of an OpenStack cloud. Key features include supporting the launch, migration, and management of virtual machines on z/VM through the OpenStack APIs and dashboard. This provides customers with a standardized way to deploy and manage workloads across different platforms like x86, Power, and System z within a single OpenStack cloud.

AAI-2016 WebSphere Application Server Installation and Maintenance in the Ent...WASdev Community
WebSphere Application Server Installation and Maintenance in the Enterprise discusses best practices for installing and maintaining WebSphere Application Server in an enterprise environment. Key points include:
- Manual installation and updates are time-consuming, so tools like Install Factory and IBM Installation Manager were created to automate the process.
- Maintenance includes applying interim fixes and fix packs. Fix packs bundle preventative maintenance fixes that have undergone extensive regression testing.
- It is important to apply maintenance proactively to reduce outages and their associated costs. A single fix pack can contain hundreds of fixes for defects and security issues.
- Careful planning is required for maintenance including testing strategies, change management processes, and understanding impacts

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
