Glencore (Switzerland) agrees to acquire JV partners’ shares in the Cerrejón mine
and strengthens climate commitments
Following notices from our joint venture partners, BHP and Anglo American,
offering to sell their entire shares in the Cerrejón mine in Colombia, Glencore
has reached agreement with each of them on substantially the same terms to
acquire their respective 33.3% interests. The transaction has an economic
effective date of 31 December 2020, with an aggregate purchase consideration
of c. US$588M then being subject to purchase price adjustments calculated at
closing. Based on expected operating performance and current forward coal
prices, assuming a closing during H1 2022, we anticipate the cash generated
by the operation to reduce the effective aggregate cash consideration to
approximately US$230M, making the estimated investment payback period
less than 2 years from closing. Glencore carefully considered how best to
respond to the sale notices in a manner which reflects our commitment to
achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and acknowledging our obligation to
act as a responsible steward of assets.
Executive Commentary
“We are confident we can manage the decline of our fossil fuel portfolio in
a responsible manner that is also consistent with meeting the goals of the
Paris Agreement, as demonstrated by our strengthened total emission
reduction targets.” Said CEO of Glencore.

HeidelbergCement (Germany) to build the world’s first carbon-neutral
cement plant
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
HeidelbergCement announced its intention to upgrade its plant on the Swedish island of Gotland to become the world’s first carbon-neutral
cement plant. The installation at the Slite plant of HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Cementa will be scaled to capture up to 1.8 million tonnes
of CO2 annually, which corresponds to the plant’s total emissions. Additionally, the use of biobased fuels in the cement production at Slite
will be increased in line with the Group’s commitment to significantly raise the share of biomass in the fuel mix. The full-scale capturing of
the plant’s CO2 emissions is targeted by 2030. The breakthrough project supports Sweden’s ambitious carbon emission reduction goals. The
carbon capture facility will be built next to the existing plant in Slite, where three quarters of the cement used for concrete production in
Sweden are currently produced. The authorisation processes and the construction period are estimated to take just under ten years. A feasibility
study, which has already been launched, will address critical issues related to technology selection, environmental impact, legal issues,
financing, logistics, and energy supply. The captured CO2 will be safely transported to a permanent storage site offshore several kilometres
down in bedrock. HeidelbergCement is currently building the world’s first full-scale installation for carbon capture at the Brevik cement plant
in Norway, capturing 400,000 tonnes annually or 50% of the plant’s emissions from 2024 onwards.

Rio Tinto (UK) to deploy world’s first fully autonomous water trucks at
Gudai-Darri
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
13
Solution Description
Rio Tinto will deploy the world’s first fully autonomous water trucks at its $2.6 billion Gudai-Darri iron ore mine in Western
Australia’s Pilbara region. The new vehicles, primarily used for dust suppression on site, will enhance productivity by enabling mine
operations to digitally track water consumption and reduce waste. Developed through a successful collaboration with leading
equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar, three water trucks will join Gudai-Darri’s fleet of Caterpillar heavy mobile equipment including
autonomous haul trucks and production drills. The vehicle’s intelligent on-board system detects dry and dusty conditions on site,
triggering the application of water to roads to keep them in good condition. The refilling process is also completely automated with
the water trucks recognizing when it is time to refill, prompting them to self-drive to the water stand, park and top-up before returning
to the field. They boast a 160,000-litre tank capacity, a 33 per cent increase on Rio Tinto’s largest water truck which has a tank
capacity of 120,000-litres. Once deployed, the water trucks will be integrated into Rio Tinto’s existing Autonomous Haulage System
which has been shown to significantly improve safety by reducing the risks associated with operators working around heavy
machinery.

Rio Tinto (UK) opens new scandium plant in Canada
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
Rio Tinto has started operations at a new commercial scale demonstration plant to produce high-quality scandium oxide at its Rio Tinto Fer et
Titane metallurgical complex in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. The $6 million project, in which the Government of Quebec contributed approximately
$650,000 through the Quebec Plan for the Development of Critical and Strategic Minerals, was completed on time and on budget, less than six
months after the start of construction. Six employees have been hired to operate the plant, which uses an innovative process developed by RTFT
to extract high purity scandium oxide from the waste streams of titanium dioxide production, without the need for any additional mining.
Commissioning work is now being undertaken as production ramps up to a capacity of three tonnes of scandium oxide per year. RTFT is already
considering the potential for further investments to add additional modules in line with market demand. This project is part of a series of
innovations supported by Rio Tinto’s Critical Minerals and Technology Centre in the field of critical minerals and materials, including the recent
launch of a water atomized steel powder for 3-D printing applications. With its world-class aluminium business, Rio Tinto is also well positioned
to produce aluminium-scandium alloys to meet customer’s needs. In March, the company announced an agreement to provide a first batch of
high-performance aluminium-scandium alloy from its North American operations to Amaero, a leader in metal additive manufacturing.

As part of the international industrial exhibition Innoprom-2021, PJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) was awarded at the STAR 4.0
Digital Industrial Innovation Competition (organized by Siemens LLC, Innoprom and the Organizing Committee of the International Productivity
Week [IPWeek 2021]) in the Financial Optimization category for its project to modernize the main mnemonic circuit of MMK’s central control
room. The work of the central control room is of major importance for the stable functioning of MMK's production site. In fact, the central control
room is the main control point of the enterprise, which processes all information about the work of MMK in real time. This allows specialists to
monitor the current state of all units and promptly respond to emergency situations. The central control room also enables staff to involve the
appropriate services to eliminate emergency situations and reduce forced downtime of the plant's main equipment, which ultimately affects the
implementation of MMK’s production programme. Specialists of MMK-Informservice, together with Siemens and the integrator company
KonsOM SKS, implemented a pilot project to modernise the central mnemonic circuit of the automated information system of the central control
room (AIS CCR). The aim of the project was to improve the work of the AIS CCR by streamlining approaches to obtaining primary data and
solving integration problems, as well as to offer a new innovative approach to visualizing operational information about the current state of
aggregates, based on the principles of situational perception.

New DRI and EAF installations in Gijón will reduce carbon emissions at the company’s Spanish operations by approximately 50%. The DRI
installation in Gijón will also enable ArcelorMittal Sestao to be the world’s first full-scale zero carbon-emissions steel plant. ArcelorMittal has
signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Spanish Government that will see a €1 billion investment in decarbonisation technologies
at ArcelorMittal Asturias’ plant in Gijón. The investments will reduce CO2 emissions at ArcelorMittal’s Spanish operations by up to 4.8 million
tonnes, which represents approximately 50% of emissions, within the next five years. The MoU states the commitment of ArcelorMittal and the
Government of Spain to transition towards a decarbonised steel industry. ArcelorMittal will introduce new manufacturing processes that contribute
to a considerable reduction of CO2 emissions. It will also further intensify its R&D capabilities in Spain to support the new project and innovation
requirements. The Government of Spain will promote reforms and investments to support the development and growth of a strong, more

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. and JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head office location will, in June 2021, start
joint study regarding technical challenges related to carbon dioxide (CO2) and the transportation and supply of new energy such as hydrogen and ammonia
in order to realize a carbon neutral society. To achieve Japanese government goal "carbon neutral by 2050" set forth in October 2020, contributions are
required from a wide range of different stakeholders. In particular, commercialization of "carbon recycling that makes effective use of CO2" and "the use of
hydrogen and ammonia, which are expected to be utilized as carbon-free energy," are expected among private enterprises. Business endeavors are rising, and
as a result, verification activities and trials are accelerating. In response to these movements, JAPEX, which has a wealth of experience in (1) production of
oil and gas in Japan, (2) supplying natural gas by combining its high-pressure gas pipeline network and liquefied natural gas terminals, and (3) operating
natural gas power plants, and JFE Engineering, which has a wide range of technologies related to the construction of infrastructure such as plants and
pipelines, found themselves to be a perfect match regarding how they both intend to achieve a carbon neutral society. JAPEX and JFE Engineering thus
agreed to start joint study regarding related technical challenges, with a view to the social implementation of their efforts in the future. In this joint study,
JAPEX and JFE Engineering will use their knowledge and experience to identify and resolve challenges regarding separation, capturing, and transportation

GE Renewable Energy and LafargeHolcim announced an MOU to explore circular economy solutions to utilize materials from decommissioned wind turbines.
Building on LafargeHolcim’s 10+ years of experience in recovering energy from wind turbine blades, the companies are exploring new ways of recycling wind
blades, including as a construction material to build new wind farms. With its Research & Development team, LafargeHolcim is exploring how wind turbine blades
can be turned into sustainable construction materials. This research builds on the company’s work, under its Geocycle brand, to recover energy from GE’s
decommissioned turbine blades after they have been removed from the turbine and shredded. Geocycle currently offers co-processing solutions for wind blades in
Germany and will evaluate the possibility of extending this solution to other parts of Europe. This next phase continues the collaboration between these two
companies, following the 2020 announcement to co-develop wind turbine towers at record heights using concrete 3D-printing together with COBOD, the Danish
3D printing start-up. Since the start of that collaboration, wind turbine tower prototypes have been developed using concrete 3D printing technology that is
stronger, more efficient, and can be built ten times faster than before. This announcement is a key next step in both partners’focus on circular solutions—especially
for the European market— at a time when the European Commission has adopted a new Circular Economy Action Plan, one of the main blocks of the European
Green Deal. Nearly 10GW of aging turbines in Europe are expected to be repowered or decommissioned by 2025. GE Renewable Energy is committed to bringing
circular lifecycle solutions to the market through strategic technology developments and has recently announced a number of key agreements and partnerships.

Harnessing green hydrogen and renewable electricity, the Sestao plant will achieve zero carbon-emissions. ArcelorMittal announces that its Sestao plant
in Spain will become the world’s first full-scale zero carbon-emissions steel plant. The development is the result of a memorandum of understanding
signed with the Government of Spain that will see an investment of €1 billion in the construction of a green hydrogen direct reduced iron (DRI) plant
at its plant in Gijón, as well as a new hybrid electric arc furnace (EAF). By 2025, the Sestao plant – which manufactures a range of flat steel products
for the automotive and construction sectors, and general industry - will produce 1.6 million tonnes of zero carbon-emissions steel by:
• Changing the metallic input by increasing the proportion of circular, recycled scrap, and using green hydrogen-produced DRI from Gijón in its two
existing EAFs.
• Powering all steelmaking assets (EAFs, rolling mill, finishing lines) with renewable electricity.
• Introducing several key emerging technologies that will replace the small, remaining use of fossil fuel in the steelmaking process with carbon-neutral
energy inputs, such as sustainable biomass or green hydrogen.
Central to this development will be the construction of a 2.3 million-ton green hydrogen DRI unit in Gijón. Around 1 million tons of DRI will be
transported to Sestao to be used a feedstock for its two EAFs.

The celebration of the centenary birthday of the Communist Party of China, a magnificent new red landmark-the Chinese Communist Party
History Exhibition Hall was officially opened in Beijing. In the afternoon, General Secretary Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders came
here to visit the "'Don't Forget Your Original Heart, Remember Your Mission' History Exhibition of the Communist Party of China", and lead
party leaders and comrades to revisit the oath of joining the party. This permanent exhibition hall with the history of the Communist Party of
China as its main line and a panoramic display of the road of the Communist Party of China's unswerving struggle has been under construction
since September 2018 and completed in May this year. As one of the main participating units, the group actively participated in the
construction of the exhibition hall, exclusively supplied 50,000 tons of construction steel for the project, and provided full-process technical
service guarantee for the construction of the exhibition hall. In view of the importance of the Chinese Communist Party History Exhibition
Hall, the general contractor put forward strict requirements on steel and decided to "select the best" from the product and supplier. The group
has become the exclusive supplier of building materials used in the construction of the project by virtue of the industry-leading excellent
quality of "Yanshan brand" rebar and its previous excellent performance in direct supply services for key projects in many countries.

The first batch of units of the Jinsha River Baihetan Hydropower Station, the largest and most technically difficult hydropower
project under construction in the world was put into production and power generation on time. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the
CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission sent a congratulatory letter to
express his warm congratulations. Since the construction of this super project, the group has developed and produced nearly 10,000
tons of new steel plates such as Q500, Q345C/B and SX780, which are mainly used for hydraulic turbine seat rings, generator top
covers, control rings, and steel for penstocks. The manufacture of key parts and other parts will help the domestically produced steel
for the million-kilowatt hydro-turbine generator set. Baihetan Hydropower Station is a major national project for the implementation
of "West-to-East Power Transmission". It is equipped with a hydroelectric generating set with the world's largest single-unit capacity
of one million kilowatts. The project has extremely strict requirements on construction materials and steel used in key parts,
especially the toughness, strength and welding performance of large-thickness and high-grade hydroelectric steel plates used in the
manufacture of mega-kilowatt hydroelectric generator sets.

Hesteel (China): The group's nearly 10,000 tons of hydropower steel assists the

Unit 1 of Jilin Dunhua Pumped-storage Power Station, the first 700- meter-level ultra-high head pumped-storage power station in China, was
officially put into operation for power generation. During the construction of the power station, the group independently developed nearly 10,000
tons of large-thickness high-strength hydroelectric steel plate WSD690E, which is mainly used in the project's penstocks and bifurcated pipes. Jilin
Dunhua Pumped-storage Power Station is currently the pumped-storage power station with the highest drop built in China, with a maximum lift
of 712 meters. Therefore, the water system needs to be made of high-strength steel plates with high strength, high low-temperature impact
toughness and easy welding. The Group further promoted the "two structural optimizations", aimed at the domestic steel demand for key national
and provincial key projects, and created more "single champion" products. Give full play to the technical advantages, in-depth docking with
customers, and customize large thicknesses with the advantages of high strength, high and low temperature toughness, easy welding, and less steel
consumption under the same conditions according to the individual requirements of customers and the geographical environment of the project.
High-strength hydropower steel sheet WSD690E, with a maximum thickness of 130mm and a maximum strength of 800MPa. At the same time, it
also strengthened technical services and sent technicians to the project construction site for technical docking to meet customer needs in a timely
manner and fully win customer recognition.

Environment & SocialUpdates IT Shades Engage & Enable ArcelorMittal (Luxembourg) Sestao to become the world’s first full-scale zero carbon-emissions steel plant For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 50 Harnessing green hydrogen and renewable electricity, the Sestao plant will achieve zero carbon-emissions. ArcelorMittal announces that its Sestao plant in Spain will become the world’s first full-scale zero carbon-emissions steel plant. The development is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed with the Government of Spain that will see an investment of €1 billion in the construction of a green hydrogen direct reduced iron (DRI) plant at its plant in Gijón, as well as a new hybrid electric arc furnace (EAF). By 2025, the Sestao plant – which manufactures a range of flat steel products for the automotive and construction sectors, and general industry - will produce 1.6 million tonnes of zero carbon-emissions steel by: • Changing the metallic input by increasing the proportion of circular, recycled scrap, and using green hydrogen-produced DRI from Gijón in its two existing EAFs. • Powering all steelmaking assets (EAFs, rolling mill, finishing lines) with renewable electricity. • Introducing several key emerging technologies that will replace the small, remaining use of fossil fuel in the steelmaking process with carbon-neutral energy inputs, such as sustainable biomass or green hydrogen. Central to this development will be the construction of a 2.3 million-ton green hydrogen DRI unit in Gijón. Around 1 million tons of DRI will be transported to Sestao to be used a feedstock for its two EAFs. Description

In the afternoon, General Secretary Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders came here to visit the "'Don't Forget Your Original Heart, Remember Your Mission' History Exhibition of the Communist Party of China", and lead party leaders and comrades to revisit the oath of joining the party. This permanent exhibition hall with the history of the Communist Party of China as its main line and a panoramic display of the road of the Communist Party of China's unswerving struggle has been under construction since September 2018 and completed in May this year. As one of the main participating units, the group actively participated in the construction of the exhibition hall, exclusively supplied 50,000 tons of construction steel for the project, and provided full-process technical service guarantee for the construction of the exhibition hall. In view of the importance of the Chinese Communist Party History Exhibition Hall, the general contractor put forward strict requirements on steel and decided to "select the best" from the product and supplier. The group has become the exclusive supplier of building materials used in the construction of the project by virtue of the industry-leading excellent quality of "Yanshan brand" rebar and its previous excellent performance in direct supply services for key projects in many countries. Miscellaneous Updates IT Shades Engage& Enable Hesteel (China): Nearly 10,000 tons of high-quality steel of the group helps "White Crane Spread its Wings" For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 52 The first batch of units of the Jinsha River Baihetan Hydropower Station, the largest and most technically difficult hydropower project under construction in the world was put into production and power generation on time. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission sent a congratulatory letter to express his warm congratulations. Since the construction of this super project, the group has developed and produced nearly 10,000 tons of new steel plates such as Q500, Q345C/B and SX780, which are mainly used for hydraulic turbine seat rings, generator top covers, control rings, and steel for penstocks. The manufacture of key parts and other parts will help the domestically produced steel for the million-kilowatt hydro-turbine generator set. Baihetan Hydropower Station is a major national project for the implementation of "West-to-East Power Transmission". It is equipped with a hydroelectric generating set with the world's largest single-unit capacity of one million kilowatts. The project has extremely strict requirements on construction materials and steel used in key parts, especially the toughness, strength and welding performance of large-thickness and high-grade hydroelectric steel plates used in the manufacture of mega-kilowatt hydroelectric generator sets. Miscellaneous Updates IT Shades Engage& Enable Hesteel (China): The group's nearly 10,000 tons of hydropower steel assists the construction of my country's highest drop pumped storage power station For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 53 Unit 1 of Jilin Dunhua Pumped-storage Power Station, the first 700- meter-level ultra-high head pumped-storage power station in China, was officially put into operation for power generation. During the construction of the power station, the group independently developed nearly 10,000 tons of large-thickness high-strength hydroelectric steel plate WSD690E, which is mainly used in the project's penstocks and bifurcated pipes. Jilin Dunhua Pumped-storage Power Station is currently the pumped-storage power station with the highest drop built in China, with a maximum lift of 712 meters. Therefore, the water system needs to be made of high-strength steel plates with high strength, high low-temperature impact toughness and easy welding. The Group further promoted the "two structural optimizations", aimed at the domestic steel demand for key national and provincial key projects, and created more "single champion" products. Give full play to the technical advantages, in-depth docking with customers, and customize large thicknesses with the advantages of high strength, high and low temperature toughness, easy welding, and less steel consumption under the same conditions according to the individual requirements of customers and the geographical environment of the project. High-strength hydropower steel sheet WSD690E, with a maximum thickness of 130mm and a maximum strength of 800MPa. At the same time, it also strengthened technical services and sent technicians to the project construction site for technical docking to meet customer needs in a timely manner and fully win customer recognition.
