Our Skills to Succeed efforts
in the UK help address youth
unemployment by providing
young people currently not
in employment, education or
training (NEETs), with support
to build skills and obtain
employment. Our programmes
focus on demand-led skilling—
building relevant skills aligned
to market opportunities. We are
forging partnerships to build
new talent pipelines to fill urgent
business needs and create greater
opportunity for individuals.
Digital skills are in high demand
across the UK and globally—and
represent an avenue ripe with
employment and economic
opportunities, particularly
for young people. Accenture
collaborated with Lloyds Banking
Group to produce the Lloyds
Bank UK Business Digital
Index; 30 percent of small-
to-medium sized enterprises
(SMEs) and charities have no
basic digital skills. Furthermore,
only 56 percent of SMEs and
charities state they have the
right knowledge and experience
to become more digital, and
75 percent are not investing
in improving digital skills. As
a result of this lack of digital
capabilities, organisations are
missing vital opportunities to
maximise their reach and impact.
Skills to Succeed
in the UK
Youth unemployment is a persistent social and economic challenge in the UK
with more than 730,000 young people, aged 16 to 24 years old, unemployed
as of January 2015.

The Go Digital suite of training
tools includes:
• A diagnostic survey to help
individuals and organisations
assess their digital maturity.
• A one-day roadmap
workshop to define a digital
transformation plan and identify
skills to execute that plan.
• Nearly 50 hours of face-
to-face interactive training,
covering digital fundamentals,
digital marketing, social
media, mobility, analytics
and user experience.
• In-person support and
guidance to facilitate training
and troubleshoot challenges
with digital experts.
Digital skills have quickly
become a key category of
skills employers seek. As such,
Go Digital is helping equip
individuals with the employability
skills—vital to organisations,
and in many cases, lacking
among SMEs and charities.
Go Digital
Accenture created Go Digital, a suite of digital skills training tools, to help address
the need in the marketplace for digital capabilities and to drive employment
and entrepreneurship outcomes for young people and others across the UK.

As the first generation to grow
up with the Internet, young
people are naturally more
familiar with digital technologies.
Therefore, Go Digital provides this
generation a unique opportunity
to harness natural digital
talents through training; learn
to apply them in professional
environments; showcase their
talents to potential employers;
and find employment.
While particularly useful to young
people, Go Digital’s versatility
makes it relevant to anyone with
minimal digital skills. It can help
entrepreneurs, jobseekers, small
business owners and organisations
improve basic digital knowledge,
empowering them to seize
opportunities in the marketplace.

Training Young People
for Work
With Accenture employees serving
as faculty, we are using Go Digital
to prepare young people to enter
the workforce and piloted the
workshop with candidates for
apprenticeship programmes.
Accenture joined 14 other FTSE100
employers as a founding member
of Movement to Work to help
tackle youth unemployment by
providing young people with high-
quality vocational training and
work experience opportunities.
Working alongside other
employers, traineeship providers
and The Prince’s Trust, we
created vocational training and
work experience placements for
people aged 18 to 24, who are
not in education, employment or
training. Accenture committed to
two programmes, Go Tech and Go
Digital. Since 2014, approximately
150 people have completed the
training with 54 percent moving
into apprenticeships or jobs with
Accenture, corporate and SMEs.
Closing the digital skills gap
We have partnered with organisations to pilot Go Digital and test how the training can help
organisations, entrepreneurs and unemployed young people improve their digital capabilities
and confidence.

Supporting Young
Entrepreneurs
Go Digital helps entrepreneurs
overcome digital challenges
and grow their businesses.
For example, five young
entrepreneurs and beneficiaries
of Bright Ideas Trust (BIT)
participated in Surgery Days,
during which they brought
their digital challenges to the
Accenture Go Digital team.
This team provided training,
advice and insight into the
entrepreneurs’ markets, as
well as helped them target
and overcome specific digital
challenges. Accenture also
facilitated Go Digital workshops
and training for BIT and helped
the organisation assess digital
capabilities, gain insight into
how digital can support their
mission and created a roadmap
to drive their digital strategy.
Helping Organisations Grow
Go Digital’s flexible design can
help organisations discover
how to better use digital
technologies to realise business
goals. For example, London
Works, a subsidiary of East
London Business Alliance, is a
recruitment agency that helps
young people find jobs. Accenture
facilitated a three-month Go
Digital programme to assess their
digital maturity and capabilities,
evaluate digital solutions to
meet their goals and provide
workshops, training and expert
advice to build digital skills and
troubleshoot digital issues. As
part of the pilot, the team also
developed communications
to garner support for a digital
strategy from London Works’
leadership and offered a
three-hour training session
to help build the staff’s skills
necessary to execute the digital
solutions the team identified. Previous page Next pageBack to Contents page

We have a tremendous
opportunity to serve as a
collaborator by connecting
individuals and organisations
with digital skills and other
essential employability skills.
To scale the impact and reach
of Go Digital, we are building
on our experience of using
online platforms to provide
employability skills training.
Specifically, Accenture is
working to convert and digitise
the existing suite of Go Digital
training content into an
interactive, mobile-enabled and
reusable online skills platform.
By helping equip individuals and
organisations with core digital
skills required in the workplace,
we can also help connect SMEs
and charities lacking digital
capabilities to individuals with
the skills their organisations need
to flourish. As such, the success
of Go Digital has the potential
to stimulate economic growth
across the UK.
Building digital skills across the UK
As we work toward our global goal of equipping more than 3 million people with workplace and
entrepreneurial skills by the end of fiscal 2020, Go Digital holds great promise for our Skills to
Succeed initiatives in the UK.

Feedback
Pilot participants had the opportunity to share their thoughts about Go Digital
in post-workshop surveys, and feedback has been consistently positive.
“I had little experience in the business world
and the culture that surrounds it, so it was
more than a little daunting to be thrust into
a world of interviews, presentations and
networking. The Go Digital programme was
vital to me in getting employment in the
digital industry. I’d recommend it to anyone.”
– Movement to Work Go Digital participant
“I have gained a lot of knowledge and
reassurance that I’m on the right track.”
– Young entrepreneur, Go Digital participant
“Absolutely brilliant day! I came away inspired
by not only content but [also] the enthusiasm
of the facilitators. I am very much looking
forward to the next session.”

Skills to Succeed, Accenture’s corporate citizenship initiative, helps address
the global need for skills that open doors to employment and economic opportunity.
We launched Skills to Succeed in 2009 to advance employment and entrepreneurship
opportunities in markets around the world. Since 2010, together with our strategic
partners, we have equipped more than 800,000 people with the skills to get a job
or build a business, and we are setting our sights even higher for the future.
We plan to equip more than 3 million people globally with workplace and entrepreneurial
skills by the end of fiscal 2020, and we will increase our focus on the successful
transition from skill-building programmes to sustainable jobs and businesses.
