Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 and helped launch the successful iMac in 1998. In 2001, Apple launched iTunes and the first iPod, building on the digital music software SoundJam MP they had acquired. The iTunes Store launched in 2003, selling over 1 million songs in its first week. By making iTunes compatible with Windows PCs, along with the growth of the iPod, iTunes Store sales boomed and it became the largest digital music store. The addition of video further solidified iTunes' role as a one-stop media provider.
