I Am Legend – promotional
         package

Overview
I Am Legend is a 2007 American post-apocalyptic science
fiction thriller film directed by Francis Lawrence and starring
Will Smith. It is the third feature film adaptation of Richard
Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name, following 1964's
The Last Man on Earth and 1971's The Omega Man. Smith
plays virologist Robert Neville, who is immune to a man-made
virus originally created to cure cancer. He works to create a
remedy while defending himself against humans mutated by
 the virus - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Legend_(film)
Official Movie Trailer – Camera
                     shots/angles
• Lots of tracking shots used – to follow the action and keep the audience on edge about what is happening
on the screen. Also opens up a wider environment and scale.

• Constant close-up shots of Will Smith – shows his constant struggle and emotions to solve the problem
and find a cure. This will be vital for our trailer.

• Long shots of the destroyed scenery – this technique will be important in our trailer for telling the story
    and showing the devastation.

• Point of view shots during action scenes – makes the audience see what it is like to be the hunted or
hunter. This can increase stress levels.

• Low angle shots to show the strength of Will Smith – this is something that is surprising as it is usually the
opposite on the main character. I think we will use a high angle shot on the two soldiers.

• Swivel pan used on both characters – shows disorientation and possibly adrenaline in the situation.

• Handheld shots - to make the audience feel part of the action and sometimes a key part in the story.
Official Movie Trailer – Editing
• Lots of quick fades to black – this is very conventional for this type of film as the evil things always come
out at night. This is the same for our trailer which is why I think we should implement this type of feature.

• Slow motion scenes – used to show scenes where adrenaline is high and situations have high drama. This
will be difficult to do with an average quality camera, but it would work very well.

• A lot of jump shots – effective as they allow the interesting parts to be shown in a trailer without looking
to obvious. Also speed up time like everything is happening at once.

• Idents and transitions match the sound accurately – this is a good technique to use because it makes the
trailer look professional and effective. I think timing is one of the most important aspects of this trailer.

• Special effects of animals and destruction – special effects are what makes the film look as real as possible.
These will have to be good enough in our trailer to work well. An alternative would be using very
    good, realistic makeup.

• Transitions match the actions – throughout the trailer, the transitions in the trailer switch between smooth
and slow, to fast and violent. This keeps the audience on the edge of their seat and allows unexpected
    scenes to be introduced.
Official Movie Trailer – Sound
• Enhanced non-diagetic and diagetic sound match transitions – this is important because the
audience do not know what to expect. Non-diagetic sounds especially as these can
completely change the view on a scenario.

• Dramatic soundtrack used throughout the trailer – used in almost all trailers to add a greater
sense of escapism and a more detailed level of depth.

• Music dies down at some moments - to show the tension and importance of the scene.

• Voice-over used to explain the situation – we will use a voice-over because it not only
explains the story, but it can cover awkward silence or moments when there isn’t much
    happening.
