1. Jesus is currently in heaven serving the church. He serves through giving gifts to believers, including Himself, the Holy Spirit, other people, and spiritual gifts.
2. Spiritual gifts are given by God to equip believers for works of ministry and building up the church. There are many spiritual gifts listed in the Bible, including speaking, revelation, power, serving, leadership gifts, and the five-fold ministry gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher.
3. Believers can discern their spiritual gifts through trial and use, seeing what ministries they are passionate or burdened for, what needs they see the church having, and activities that bring them joy in serving

Bible Alive continues with Faith in Paul. What does faith mean for Paul and his New Testament writings? Does Paul disagree with Old Testament understandings of faith? How do faith and preaching relate? How is faith made “incarnational” through obedience? Is faith for Paul something only mental? Is faith for Paul expressed in a one-time event or confession? Is faith forever, or does Paul think it may become sick and die? How is faith vision for Paul, and by it, what does one see? All are invited to participate.
This is the first in a series of studies for a small church group who wanted to understand who the Holy Spirit is, and what His role is in the Bible and the Christian life.
The Catechesis Office and Discipleship and Parish Life Office are pleased to offer A Facilitator’s Guide for The Faith We Believe: Unpacking the Creed. Please visit our website to download. We have also created this PowerPoint Presentation to accompany the Facilitator’s Guide.
We hope parish groups and others wanting to deepen their reflection on the Creed find this resource helpful.

Connecting with your church part 3 seth g march 1 2020Pacific Church
A church is not a building. The Bible makes it clear that the church is a body of believers ”called out” for a purpose, and each purpose may be different! A church is a group of God's people, in community, making a difference in the lives of people, for the glory of God.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

4. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge
you to live a life worthy of the calling you
have received. 2 Be completely humble
and gentle; be patient, bearing with one
another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep
the unity of the Spirit through the bond of
peace.
5. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as
you were called to one hope when you
were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one
baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who
is over all and through all and in all.
6. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
7 But to each one of us grace has been
given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is
why it says: “When He ascended on high,
He took many captives and gave gifts to
His people.” 9 (What does “He ascended”
mean except that He also descended to
the lower, earthly regions?
7. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
10 He who descended is the very One who
ascended higher than all the heavens, in
order to fill the whole universe.) 11 So
Christ Himself gave the apostles, the
prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and
teachers, 12 to equip His people for works
of service, so that the body of Christ may
be built up
8. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in
the knowledge of the Son of God and
become mature, attaining to the whole
measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then
we will no longer be infants, tossed back
and forth by the waves, and blown here
and there by every wind of teaching and by
the cunning and craftiness of people in
their deceitful scheming.
9. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we
will grow to become in every respect the
mature body of Him who is the head, that
is, Christ. 16 From Him the whole body,
joined and held together by every
supporting ligament, grows and builds
itself up in love, as each part does its
work.
13. EPHESIANS 4:3-4
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of
the Spirit through the bond of
peace. 4 There is one body and one
Spirit, just as you were called to one
hope when you were called;
14. So what is Jesus doing right now?
He’s serving the church.
He’s loving the church.
He’s paying attention to the church.
He’s devoted to the church.
He’s concerned for the church.
15. And He’s working in the church
through the person, and the presence,
and the power of the God the Holy
Spirit.
16. The church of Jesus Christ is the
most amazing group of people in
the history of the world.
17. “What is the biggest organization on the
earth?” - The church
“What’s the strongest organization on the
earth?” - The church
“What’s the longest-lasting organization
on the earth?” - The church
18. “How could that be?
Because God is with them.
What is on Jesus’ heart is every local
church that loves and serves Him.
19. EPHESIANS 4:1-5
1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge
you to live a life worthy of the calling you
have received. 2 Be completely humble
and gentle; be patient, bearing with one
another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep
the unity of the Spirit through the bond of
peace.
20. EPHESIANS 4:1-5
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as
you were called to one hope when you
were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one
baptism;
21. EPHESIANS 4:13-16
13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in
the knowledge of the Son of God and
become mature, attaining to the whole
measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then
we will no longer be infants, tossed back
and forth by the waves, and blown here
and there by every wind of teaching and by
the cunning and craftiness of people in
their deceitful scheming.
22. EPHESIANS 4:13-16
15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we
will grow to become in every respect the
mature body of Him who is the head, that
is, Christ. 16 From Him the whole body,
joined and held together by every
supporting ligament, grows and builds
itself up in love, as each part does its
work.
30. EPHESIANS 4:3-4
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of
the Spirit through the bond of
peace. 4 There is one body and one
Spirit, just as you were called to one
hope when you were called;
31. God has given us His Spirit.
We’re not orphans, we’re not
abandoned, and we’re not alone.
We don’t have to live by our own power;
we can live by the power of God.
32. The Holy Spirit is present in the church.
The Holy Spirit is present and at work in
the world, but He is particularly and
powerfully at work in the people of God,
particularly when we assemble together.
33. He loves to help us work out our
conflicts. He loves to help us love
and serve one another. He loves to
be present wherever Jesus is
praised.
34. God’s given us Jesus.
God’s given us the presence, the
person, the power of the Holy Spirit.
41. 1. It doesn’t really
matter whether it’s a
natural talent or a
supernatural gift.
42. NATURAL TALENT SUPERNATURAL GIFT
- is something you just
innately have from birth.
- is something you can
do before you’re a
Christian.
- is something you have
from your new birth.
- is something that
accompanies the
presence and the
power of the Holy Spirit
when you become a
Christian.
43. 2. The way you find
your spiritual gift is
trial and error.
44. Some of you have one gift.
Some of you have multiple gifts, and
the gift mix is combined to give you a
particular ministry capacity.
People have differing amounts of gift.
47. EPHESIANS 4:12
12 “To equip the saints for the work of
ministry, for the building up of the body of
Christ.”
48. Some of you have one gift.
Some of you have multiple gifts, and
the gift mix is combined to give you a
particular ministry capacity.
People have differing amounts of gift.
49. CONSUMER MENTALITY CHRISTIAN MENTALITY
- The leadership exists
to serve you.
- it’s more like a
business transaction.
- The leadership exists
to equip you to serve
others.
- is “How can I give my
money, my time, my
gifts, my capacities, my
abilities, and where
could I help bring unity
and health to our church
family?”
54. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:8-10
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a
message of wisdom, to another a
message of knowledge by means of the
same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same
Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that
one Spirit,
55. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:8-10
10 to another miraculous powers, to
another prophecy, to another
distinguishing between spirits, to another
speaking in different kinds of tongues, and
to still another the interpretation of
tongues.
63. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:28-30
28 And God has placed in the church first of
all apostles, second prophets, third
teachers, then miracles, then gifts of
healing, of helping, of guidance, and of
different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all
apostles? Are all prophets? Are all
teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all
have gifts of healing? Do all speak in
tongues? Do all interpret?
64. 10. Gifts of Service and helps
11. Gifts of Administration
12. Gifts of Encouragement
13. Gifts of Giving
65. 14. Gifts of Teaching
15. Gifts of Leadership
16. Gifts of Mercy
17. Gifts of Hospitality
67. EPHESIANS 4:11-12
11 So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the
prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and
teachers, 12 “To equip the saints for the
work of ministry, for the building up of the
body of Christ.”
71. How am I gifted?
Where do you have a passion to serve?
What do you have a burden to do?
What needs do you see in the church?
72. What do you find joy in doing for others?
What opportunities has God already
provided for you to serve others?
What’s already working?
What are you best at and have the most
success in?
73. It might be an indication of how
God has made you and the kind
of ministry that He’s prepared
for you.
