Countering Payment System FragmentationShikha Bhatia
TerraPay proposes an open payment network to address fragmentation across payment platforms and providers. Currently there is a proliferation of providers like banks, mobile operators, and payment companies, but lack of interoperability. This causes high costs, access issues, and duplicated investments. An open network would use common standards and rules to allow any instrument or carrier to process transactions through a single platform. This would provide universal access, lower costs through economies of scale, and benefits for partners, customers, and regulators through increased competition, financial inclusion, and effective policy-making. TerraPay asks for regulatory support to promote market-wide interoperability and an open, collaborative approach.

Why Cash is Still King - Examining the Effectiveness of Alternate Delivery Ch...Arnab Ghosh
Cash is still widely used for 60% of retail transactions globally despite the risks and costs of cash. The document examines case studies of countries that have made progress in becoming less reliant on cash, such as Kenya increasing use of M-Pesa mobile payments and debit cards, and Indonesia growing electronic wallets. Successful shifts to less cash require compelling uses of electronic payments, wide acceptance, a good user experience, and trust in the system. Financial institutions can promote cashless payments by simplifying access, accepting payments anywhere, educating customers and merchants, and leveraging new technologies.

CNP EXPO PAY.ON on Keys to Frictionless International Payments AcceptancePayvision
Traditionally, merchant expansion into international markets has been fraught with challenges from the payments side. The multitude of contracting needs and technical integrations required, combined with wide variations in payment habits and local market expectations often combined to prevent ISOs, Acquirers and merchants from expanding their CNP payments offering beyond international cards, and perhaps one or two of the "mainstream alternative” payment types. The result has been lost customers, lower conversion rates, and foregone opportunities.
This, however, is changing. As North American merchants are pushing their payment providers to “follow them” into European, Latin American and Asian markets, the payments industry has responded with new technology, new services and new solutions that go a long way toward reducing the complexity, time-to-market and effort required for payment providers to “go international.” This presentation will look at the ways these international payment challenges are being overcome by globally-focused industry players, and will spark discussion regarding the right strategy for following merchants to new markets quickly, cost-effectively, and successfully.

Editor's Notes
----- Meeting Notes (7/15/15 15:31) -----
Paying in: there is a network to support all use cases
Paying out: new use cases require whole new stack
Unless you have a platform....
Key Messages:
-Unlike our peers, HW is a true platform company.
-The heart of our business is our Service Platform, with an SLA of 99.XX%
-Our payout use case flexibility is of course what we’re known for, but equally important is the compliance and support we provide to make our clients’ lives easy. -The platform affords almost infinite configurability, as we’ve iterated with clients for years, and productized all of those iterations.
-Looking to the bottom of the slide, our fin network is the output of our many years of operations. We have redundant, global capabilities, second to no other pure play payout provider.
-Finally, and most exciting, the manner by which we expose our capabilities to the payee is evolving in an exciting trajectory. Of course, our wallet, registered with over 5M payees today, is the heart of the solution. But with great new mandate and resources thanks to Primus, Brent and our growth, we are developing both in house and partner applications that will really differentiate our servicing of the payee. Loyalty solutions will be coming on line for existing clients and new starting later this year. Acquiring options so that our clients can have one-stop shops for payment is finally on the doorstep. And then you need to look at the suite of value add capabilities around making the independent work
Network is not just a bank network…it’s both bank and alternative…
