HUM 200 Project Part Two: Presentation Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
We all share common experiences that can be generally classified within the major themes of art. Examples of these themes include love, mortality, identity,
truth, and beauty. The representation of these themes through various media reveals central beliefs shared by a common people. The comparison of objects
from the humanities with similar themes helps to uncover not only the uniqueness of each respective cultural artifact, but also a shared human consciousness
that transcends time and place.
Your project for this course has two parts. In Project Part One, you will complete an exploration document examining two cultural artifacts that you select,
identifying a theme common to both of them and developing a thesis statement related to the theme and artifacts. You will also identify an audience who would
be interested in your artifacts, theme, and thesis statement. In Project Part Two, you will develop a presentation for your audience. In your presentation, you
will discuss the impact of the cultural artifacts, theme, and thesis statement on both individuals and society, supporting your claims with evidence. You will also
explain how study of the humanities has impacted you both personally and professionally.
In Project Part Two, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
● Illustrate the impact of the humanities on personal and professional experiences
● Communicate effectively to specific audiences in examining fundamental aspects of human culture
● Utilize evidence from subjective and objective cultural analysis in drawing conclusions about the impact of cultural artifacts on individuals and society
Prompt
Your presentation assignment should answer the following prompt: Based on your exploration document, create a presentation that explains how the
humanities have impacted you both personally and professionally and discusses the impact of your theme on your audience.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Provide a brief overview of your artifacts, theme, and thesis statement. How are they situated within the domain of the humanities?
II. Explain how the theme, as it is expressed in the cultural artifacts, and thesis statement impact the audience. In other words, how is the theme relevant
to members of the audience? Why should the audience care about your thesis statement? Support your response with specific examples from your
exploration document.

III. Describe the evidence from subjective and objective cultural analyses that you have to support your conclusions about the impact of the theme and
cultural artifacts on you personally and on your audience. Support your response with specific examples from your exploration document.
IV. Explain why the theme and cultural artifacts are important to you personally. In other words, why did you select these artifacts to ...

HUM 200 Project Part Two Speaker Notes Draft Guidelines and Rubric
Overview: An effective presentation includes a summary of the main points in the presentation slides, but the presenter adds additional content to unpack each
point on the slides. This is where speaker notes are particularly useful. Some presenters have the capability of memorizing the details and being cued by the
outline in the presentation, or even speaking off the cuff. However, for the purposes of this project, you will document your speaker notes to accompany the
presentation slides you will develop in Week 8. This step will help you consider the outline of your presentation and the content you will want to include on each
slide.
Prompt: Your presentation will have accompanying speaker notes to fill in the details you would include in the presentation, but not necessarily include in the
presentations slides. Your speaker notes can either be bulleted points for each step of your presentation or more developed paragraphs to help you deliver the
presentation. This part is up to you; either way, these notes should contain substantial details to address each of the required parts of your presentation.

The document provides guidelines and a rubric for a multimedia presentation project in a history course. Students are asked to create a 10-12 slide presentation addressing how historical lenses impact perspectives on events, and the value of studying history. Specifically, students must discuss how political, economic, and social lenses shape narratives; apply lessons from their research topic to current issues; and consider their civic duty to understand history's influence. The rubric evaluates students' articulation of these critical elements and provides criteria for exemplary, proficient, needs improvement, and not evident ratings.
HUM 200 Project Part One Rough Draft Guidelines and Rubric
Overview: Now that you have chosen your artifacts and identified the common theme, you will develop a draft of your exploration document. Over the course
of Theme: Examining the Humanities and Theme: Impact of the Humanities, you will walk through each step in the Soomo webtext and have an opportunity to
incorporate instructor feedback before submitting your final version of the exploration document at the end of Theme: Impact of the Humanities.
Prompt: Analyze your two chosen artifacts. Then, identify a common theme and compare your examples to one another as expressions of the same theme in
different cultural artifacts. To document your analysis and research, you will develop a reference list. In preparation for the presentation you will develop in
Theme: Human Culture, you will also consider how you would present your research to a specific audience.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Describe the cultural artifacts that you chose. Consider questions such as these in your response: What is the name or title of the artifact? Who is the
author or artist? What is the date or time period when the artifact was created? What is the cultural location or physical setting of the artifact? In
addition, you could consider including a photograph or image of each cultural artifact, if they are visual artifacts.
II. Identify at least one common theme that will serve as the framework of your exploration document. How is the theme expressed in your artifacts?
III. Explain how the theme you identified is related to your personal experience. For instance, you could discuss how the expression of the theme in your
cultural artifacts is connected to you personally.
IV. Discuss a profession that could be impacted by the theme you identified. In other words, how is the theme you identified related to professional
experiences? How could a working knowledge of the humanities be useful in this field?
V. Describe at least three humanities resources that you could use to investigate your theme and artifacts. Your sources must be relevant to your theme
and of an appropriate academic nature. In your description, consider questions such as the following: What are the similarities and differences in the
content of your sources? What makes them appropriate and relevant for investigating your issue? What was your thought process when you were
searching for sources? How did you make choices? Did you encounter any obstacles and, if so, how did you overcome them? If you did not, why do you
think it was so easy to find what you needed?
VI. Use the humanities resources that you selected to research your theme and cultural artifacts, making sure that you cite your sources. Based on your
research, do the following:
A. Discuss the relationship between each cultural artifact and its historical context. In other words, what were the circumstances under which e ...

IDS 400 Final Project Part Two Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
This course explores diversity and its impact on the world around us. Diversity influences society, and society influences diversity, creating a feedback loop
between them. We will critically analyze this feedback loop in this course through social, historical, and theoretical approaches to diversity as well as the four
general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. Each of these four perspectives allows us to better understand
the construction of diversity and its interrelation with society. From this enhanced understanding, you will be equipped to draw connections between popular
culture and your personal and professional lives, helping you to become a better-informed citizen who can make a positive difference in the world.
Issues and events in diversity have a pervading influence on many aspects of society, and how they are dealt with requires diverse knowledge and perspectives to
investigate and change. The purpose of this project is to examine a specific issue or event in diversity and how that event or issue impacts individuals and society.
You will do this through the development of a critical analysis portfolio and a presentation in which you will demonstrate your ability to think critically,
investigate, and communicate clearly. These skills are often necessary to achieve personal and professional goals across many disciplines.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
Analyze the relationships among culture, diversity, and self by investigating their influence on one’s discipline of study or chosen profession
Integrate interdisciplinary approaches for determining how issues of diversity affect modern societies in both personal and professional contexts
Describe the cultural and social influences on the development of personal identity by employing appropriate research strategies
Recommend strategies for overcoming obstacles in diversity to meet personal and professional goals
Articulate informed viewpoints on how to ensure cultural responsiveness in personal and professional contexts using effective communication skills
Assess the challenges of overcoming issues in diversity through the incorporation of diverse perspectives and viewpoints informed by relevant literature
and peer experiences
Prompt
For Final Project Part Two, you will develop a multimedia presentation in which you will have a chance to reflect on what you have learned about your issue or
event, yourself, and society through analyzing your event or issue’s impact on diversity. You will also be able to apply your communication skills and integrate

Overview
History is for human self-knowledge . . . the only clue to what man can do is what man has done. The value of history, then, is that it teaches us what man has
done and thus what man is.
—R. G. Collingwood
Historical awareness informs various aspects of our lives. We live in a time of rapid change, and we often think more about the future than the past. However,
studying history can help us better understand our own lives in the context of the places we live and society in general. In America, specifically, the government is
informed by its citizens. If the ideals of society shift, that shift will eventually move throughout the different levels of government, effecting widespread change.
For the projects in this course, you will select a historical event that has impacted American society in some way. You may select an event that was discussed in
the course, or you may select your own event, with instructor approval. You may consider using the event you chose to work on in your Perspectives in History
class, if that event is something you wish to investigate further through this assessment.
In Project 1, you will develop a plan for an essay on this historical event. The plan will include a brief description of the selected historical event and the resources
you will use in your research. In addition, you will identify an audience for your essay and decide how to communicate your information to this audience. In
Project 2, you will write an essay analyzing the historical event you selected, examining its impact on society as well as its impact on you personally.
Project 1 addresses the following course outcomes:
Select appropriate and relevant primary and secondary sources in investigating foundational historic events
Communicate effectively to specific audiences in examining fundamental aspects of human history
Apply key approaches to studying history in addressing critical questions related to historical narratives and perspectives
Prompt
Your writing plan should answer the following prompt: Select a historical event that has impacted American society. Develop a plan for writing your essay,
describing the historical event, selecting appropriate resources for your research, and identifying an audience for your essay. The purpose of this writing plan is to
provide you with a way to gather your thoughts and begin thinking about how to support your thesis statement. The following critical elements will be assessed
in a 1- to 2-page word processing document.

Overview: In Final Project Part Two, you will develop a multimedia presentation in which you will have a chance to reflect on what you have learned about your issue or event, yourself, and diversity through analyzing its impact on society. You will also be able to apply your communication skills and integrate multimedia elements to communicate your message to an audience. This milestone is due in Module Five.
In developing this presentation, you will be able to use your analyses from the first part of this project as a starting point. The reflective nature of this activity prompts you to dig deeper and consider the implications posed by the critical analysis of your issue or event in diversity. How does studying diversity affect how you understand yourself, as well as the world around you? You’ll also be challenged to incorporate a dash of creativity to enhance your message.

HIS 100 Project 3: Multimedia Presentation Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
“If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday.”
—Pearl Buck
Your final longer-term project in this course is to complete a multimedia presentation. The work you did on the Topic Exploration Worksheet in Theme 1 and the
historical context and introduction in Theme 3 will directly support your work on this project.
One of the prime benefits of studying history is that it allows us to learn about who we are and where we came from. The people and events of the past can
often shed light on the conditions and social norms of the present. Having historical awareness can inform various aspects of your life as well as future
aspirations. Learning from past failures and successes can shape ideals and values for years to come.
This final longer-term project is designed to help you understand the fundamental processes and value of studying history. In the first project, you completed
the Topic Exploration Worksheet on one of the topics or themes from the library guide. You investigated the types of research you might need to do to learn
more about the topic and developed research questions. In Project 2, you used this worksheet to complete a research plan and introduction. You selected one of
your research questions and did some secondary-source research, speculated on primary source needs, and used the information to write the introduction and
thesis statement for a possible research paper.
In this third project, you will create a multimedia presentation that explores both major developments in historical inquiry and the value of examining history.
This assessment addresses the following course outcomes:
Investigate major developments in the progression of historical inquiry for informing critical questions related to historical narrative
Articulate the value of examining historical events for their impact on contemporary issues
Prompt
Now that you have done some research with primary and secondary sources (using sources from the library guide for your chosen topic) and written an
introduction for a possible history paper, you will turn your attention to thinking about the creation and value of historical inquiry. You will use the research you
have done throughout this course, as well as course materials, to inform your thoughts. To present your opinions and observations, you will create a multimedia
presentation (using a presentation tool such as PowerPoint or Prezi) that addresses the following critical elements. While these questions may seem “big,”
remember that you are addressing them in a presentation, not a paper, and can use bullet points, visuals, or other methods. These critical elements will be
evaluated from the information you provide in your multimedia presentation. Note: If using Prezi, be sure to include a Word document with notes. If using
PowerPoint, be sure to use the speaker notes feature. ...
Research Methodologies In Cultural PsychologyBenjamin Cheung
Cultural psychologists face difficulties studying cultural differences due to limitations of various research methodologies. Questionnaire studies using explicit questions are simple but prone to reference group effects and response biases. Implicit measures avoid some biases but have questionable validity. Behavioral studies objectively measure values but are difficult to define and implement. Cultural product analyses reflect cultural influences but lack generalizability. The best approach uses multiple complementary methodologies to overcome individual limitations and validate findings.

As the world continues to become more diverse and multicultural, youmurgatroydcrista
As the world continues to become more diverse and multicultural, you will find yourself interacting with individuals who differ from you in many significant ways. This diversity brings with it many great benefits but it can also impact communication and relationships in unexpected ways. Consider if you, as a professional in Human Services, have to provide in-home services to a family that has recently immigrated to the United States from another country. How might this diversity impact expectations, communication, and relationships of all involved? Could you gather some information related to their culture prior to engaging with them?
Purpose:
This interview and paper project focuses on exploring and learning about cultural differences in interpersonal relations and communication. One way to safely experience and identify differences is through interviewing a person from a culture significantly different from your own.
Overview:
Students will conduct an interview with an individual who identifies as being of another culture. The person interviewed must differ from you in at least two significant ways (culture, religion, primary language, country of origin). There are two parts of this project: the first being the interview, and the second is academic research on aspects of your interviewee's culture. Your written explanation, description, and outside validation (through references) will point out the differences you find between cultures.
The paper must follow APA style, and will include a title page, reference page, and running header. No abstract is needed. APA standards include size 12 Times New Roman font, double-spaced and normal margins. You may use the following as guidelines for headers:
Introduction
Introduce your interviewee, how you know the person, and describe the cultural differences and reason for choosing this person. Include a thesis statement explaining the research aspect of the assignment. Clearly identify the part of the culture that you chose to explore.
Interview
Write a narrative summary of the interview, where you paraphrase the discussion and highlight what you've learned about the cultural differences of the interviewee. You may relate some of the interview to course material.
Related Research
This section will cover the research aspect of the assignment. Explain why the topic interested you, and continue your discussion using APA standards for in-text citing. Remember to integrate what you learned about your interviewee in with your research.
Conclusion
A strong conclusion paragraph is expected to summarize and tie together what you learned throughout the interview and research.

Psychological Capital
Psychological capital is a positive psychological state with four components: self-efficacy, optimism, hope and resiliency. Self-efficacy means having confidence in oneself to complete goals. Optimism is more than just being positive; it is purposely and positively reframing external negative experiences. Hope is about persevering toward goals, redirecting yourself when faced with a setback. And resiliency refers to one’s ability to bounce back from adversity. Together they are greater than the sum of their parts.
Psychological capital, like widely recognized concepts human and social capital, is a construct similar to economic capital, where resources are invested and leveraged for a future return. Psychological capital is different from human (‘what you know’) and social (‘who you know’) capital, and is more directly concerned with ‘who you are’ and more importantly ‘who you are becoming’ (i.e., developing one’s actual self to become the possible self).
Psychological capital is operationally defined as an individual’s positive psychological state of development that is characterized by: (1) having confidence (self-efficacy) to take on and put in the necessary effort to succeed at challenging tasks; (2) making a positive attribution (optimism) about succeeding now and in the future; (3) persevering toward goals, and when necessary, redirecting paths to goals (hope) in order to succeed; and (4) when beset by problems and adversity, sustaining and bouncing back and even beyond (resiliency) to attain success (Luthans, Youssef, & Avolio).
Helping College Grads Transition to Work
Cultivate ‘psychological capital’ to help college grads transition to work.
Interview by Kathryn Tyler 5/1/2014
For millions of eager young college students, May means graduation; for Rachel Klemme Larson, Ph.D., it’s time to get to work. Larson is assistant director of career services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration. She has been helping college students find jobs and adjust to the workforce for the past nine years. When several alumni told her that the workplace was not what they expected, she probed further to see why some graduates transition well and others do not. Her research—which is discussed in “
Newcomer Adjustment Among Recent College Graduates: An Integrative Literature Review,”
an article co- written by Larson and published in the September 2013 Human Resource Development Review—revealed that successful new grads have a higher level of something called “psychological capital.”
What is psychological capital?
It is a positive psychological state with four components: self-efficacy, optimism, hope and resiliency. Self.

HUM 200 Project Part Two
1. HUM 200 Project Part Two: Presentation Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
We all share common experiences that can be generally
classified within the major themes of art. Examples of these
themes include love, mortality, identity,
truth, and beauty. The representation of these themes through
various media reveals central beliefs shared by a common
people. The comparison of objects
from the humanities with similar themes helps to uncover not
only the uniqueness of each respective cultural artifact, but also
a shared human consciousness
that transcends time and place.
2. Your project for this course has two parts. In Project Part One,
you will complete an exploration document examining two
cultural artifacts that you select,
identifying a theme common to both of them and developing a
thesis statement related to the theme and artifacts. You will also
identify an audience who would
be interested in your artifacts, theme, and thesis statement. In
Project Part Two, you will develop a presentation for your
audience. In your presentation, you
will discuss the impact of the cultural artifacts, theme, and
thesis statement on both individuals and society, supporting
your claims with evidence. You will also
explain how study of the humanities has impacted you both
personally and professionally.
In Project Part Two, you will demonstrate your mastery of the
following course outcomes:
● Illustrate the impact of the humanities on personal and
professional experiences
● Communicate effectively to specific audiences in examining
fundamental aspects of human culture
● Utilize evidence from subjective and objective cultural
analysis in drawing conclusions about the impact of cultural
artifacts on individuals and society
Prompt
Your presentation assignment should answer the following
prompt: Based on your exploration document, create a
presentation that explains how the
humanities have impacted you both personally and
professionally and discusses the impact of your theme on your
audience.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
3. I. Provide a brief overview of your artifacts, theme, and thesis
statement. How are they situated within the domain of the
humanities?
II. Explain how the theme, as it is expressed in the cultural
artifacts, and thesis statement impact the audience. In other
words, how is the theme relevant
to members of the audience? Why should the audience care
about your thesis statement? Support your response with
specific examples from your
exploration document.
1
III. Describe the evidence from subjective and objective cultural
analyses that you have to support your conclusions about the
impact of the theme and
cultural artifacts on you personally and on your audience.
Support your response with specific examples from your
4. exploration document.
IV. Explain why the theme and cultural artifacts are important
to you personally. In other words, why did you select these
artifacts to study? Why did you
select your theme, especially if there are other themes that
could apply?
V. Explain how studying the humanities can give you both a
personal and professional advantage. In other words, what is the
benefit of studying the
humanities?
VI. Explain why the humanities are important to society. In
other words, what do the humanities tell us about our own
culture and experiences? How do
the humanities impact us? Support your response with specific
examples from your exploration document and your own
personal and professional
experiences.
VII. Communicate your message in a way that is tailored to
your specific audience. For instance, you could consider your
vocabulary, your audience’s
potential current humanities knowledge or lack thereof, and
what is specifically important to the audience.

Tropical Rainforest
Trees cut down in the tropical rainforests
13. Threats-
According to Comparative Analysis of the Global Forest/Non-
Forest Maps Derived from SAR and Optical Sensors. Case
Studies from Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado Biomes , “The
increasing demand for food, products,
and energy, either from forests themselves (e.g., timbers for
exportation) or from the lands replacing the forests (e.g., water
reservoirs for hydroelectric power generation and clear -cut
terrains for livestock and cropland) is the primary cause of
forest loss”.
Deforestation-happens because of farming, logging, mining, and
roads.
Farming- People want to farm in tropical rainforests because the
global demand for meat has went up. So many cattle farms have
opened in the Amazon Basin for beef farming. Arable farming is
also responsible for the loss of tropical rainforests because
many farmers clear land to grow cash crops.
Logging- trees are cut down in tropical rainforests because the
rainforests have very valuable trees such as mahogany. These
are sold for timber in order to make furniture.
Mining-The amazon basin has a lot of valuable resources such
as gold, aluminum, and copper. Due to this many mines have
been built.
Roads- Because of roads being built this biome is being
destroyed. Miners, farmers, and loggers use these roads.
Hydroelectric Power-Hydroelectric power stations in the
Amazon Basin has caused tropical rainforests to flood because
people are trying to make dams and reservoirs.

Location on earth- Tropical rainforests can be found in South
America, central America, western Africa, central Africa,
western India, Southeast Asia, the island of New Guinea, and
Australia. These places are basically in between the latitudes of
23.5°N and 23.5°S which is also considered the Tropic of
Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn
High temperatures (70 degrees Fahrenheit and 85 degrees

Wide range of animal species
Nutrients are washed out of the soil very quickly due to the
heavy rainfall.
Okapis-have large ears that help them sense large predators and
they have large bodies that help them blend into the shadows.
Tapirs- are born with coats that are spotted and striped and this
is their camouflage.
Sloths- use their behavioral adaptation and its camouflage to be
able to survive in the rainforest.
Toucans-have adapted big long bills and this allows the bird to
get fruit off of branches that are not big enough to support the
bird.
Poison dart frogs-use their bright colors to warn off predators.

Lianas are vines that have roots in the ground but they climb up
trees in order to get the sunlight.
Tree trunks are tall and thin in order to allow trees to reach
sunlight.
The bark is smooth for water to be able to flow down easily to
the roots.
Drip tips have leaves with tips that are pointy. Because of this
water can run off the leaves and the leaves won’t be damaged.
Buttress roots are large and they have ridges. These ridges make
a big surface area that supports the large trees.

Biome Pamphlet Project
· minimum of 60% on biome presentation
Select a biome to research. you may choose any biome you find
particularly interesting, or you may simply choose a biome you
want to learn more about. Feel free to pick some of the lesser
known biomes such as the tropical deciduous forest, the
temperate rain forest, savannahs, or the like. You may even
focus on a particular region of a well known biome if you are
interested in a particular geographic locale. For example, if you
decide to research and explore the tropical rainforest, you may
want to pick a particular region to focus your studies on ( i.e.
tropical rainforest of Queensland Australia, tropical rainforest
of Guatemala, or tropical rainforests of the Thai peninsula).
The information collected will be used to create
a pamphlet describing the biome. This is not a group project.
The pamphlet must demonstrate your own work. This
assignment is worth 100pts. The posted grading rubric will be
used to score your project. In order to receive a grade, it must
be uploaded into canvas by the due date listed on

What's Your Take...Water war?
4
It has been said that while water resources have rarely been the
sole source of conflict or war, the next major war could be a
water war and not an oil war. This is in response to the growing
pressure on natural resources that is being experienced
throughout the world in the context of increasing demand. With
extreme numbers of international watercourses that are shared
between countries and its use are a likely cause of tension and
strain relations between countries.
ASSIGNMENT: What's Your Take?...Explain your position with
respect and if you disagree, refrain from any and all personal
attacks. Stay on topic, try to write full sentences, cite
references when using someone else's ideas :)
1. Develop a position on the likelihood of a future "water war"
and where you feel it could develop.
BIOME PAMPHLET PROJECT
20. 1. Select a biome to research. The information collected will be
used to create a pamphlet describing the biome. You will
capture this information on the Biome Information Sheet. This
MUST be turned in with your pamphlet. You can find the Biome
Information Sheet on the last few pages of this document.
2. You will be using on-line resources, books from the library
and the course textbook. Make sure to gather your information
before you start to design your pamphlet. The information must
be in your own words to receive credit. You will need to include
pictures and captions throughout your pamphlet. The pictures
can be black and white.
3. You will share your findings on this biome. You will need to
try to convince me why I should visit your biome. Think: What
makes your biome unique? I will put emphasis on your grade for
this part of the project.
4. Your pamphlet can be completed using Microsoft Publisher
or other brochure publishers. The title page should have your
name, the biome name, a picture, and your class period.
5. Your pamphlet must include:
· The name of your biome (title page)
· The biome’s characteristics (climate, average temperature,
average precipitation amounts, are there seasons) and l ocations
in the world (continents, countries)
· Five to ten plants that are found in your biome. Describe an
adaptation they have for surviving in the biome. (Ex) large
horizontal roots
· Five to ten animals that are found in your biome. Describe an
adaptation they have for surviving in the biome. (Ex) thick fur
· Threats to the biome. Give some details to the threats (what
are some causes/effects of the threats. (Ex) deforestation-
destroying habitats
· Bibliography with at least three different internet sources and
one book source.
· Pictures to include are: a map of the biome location, two
plants you described, two animals you described, landscape, and
one picture of the threat.
