1. A ‘how-to’ guide for...
Schools Procuring Sports Facilites
1. DETERMINE OBJECTIVES - Why do you want a new sports facility?
Enhance the P.E.
department
Boost prestige of the school Generate a new income
stream
2. CONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS - Have you thought of...
Improving the facility you
already have?
Linking up with a local sports
club or leisure centre?
Sharing resources with another
school?
3. WHAT TYPE OF FACILITY DO YOU NEED? - To figure this out, there are three questions to answer:
a) What sports will the facility
be predominantly used for?
b) What level of competition
will be played on the facility?
c) How often/intensively will
the facility be used?
Our dedicated team of experts at Thornton Sports can help you identify your ideal surface type, which
will often be a macadam, polymeric or synthetic grass type surface. You can also visit our website at
www.thorntonsports.co.uk to use our online Synthetic Grass Selector Tool.
4. RAISING THE FUNDS
The lifespan of your new facility will depend entirely on
how well you look after it and the intensity of usage.
By adopting the correct maintenance regime, you can
prolong the life of your facility. As a guide, well
maintained facilities should have a lifespan of
approximately 10 years or more.
So you’ve decided on a surface, but how can you fund
the project?
• Grant Sources - including Sport England, Football
Foundation and others; contact your local County
Sport Partnership for more information.
• Facility Finance Options - with the help of our
funding partners, your new facility could be paid for via
regular installments.
• Pitch Maximisation Scheme - this could enable
your school to get a free pitch resurface! Contact us to
find out more.
