The top three most common workplace injuries are: 1) being struck by objects or caught in equipment, 2) overexertion from lifting, and 3) slips, trips and falls. The neck to waist area of the trunk sees the most injuries, especially the back. Mondays see the most injuries which often occur between 8am and noon. Sprains, strains, bruises and contusions are the most common diagnoses. Workers with one year or less of experience account for a third of all injuries despite being a quarter of the workforce. Repetitive stress injuries typically result in the longest absences from work besides fractures. Men suffer around two thirds of injuries requiring time off despite a gender-balanced workforce.
