How to Take Screenshot on
iPhone
Technology How To Tips & Tricks
Taking a screenshot on your iPhone is quick and easy, and it can come in really
handy. You can share them with your grandparents when they want to see what
you’re doing on your phone. If you see a strange error message pop up, you can
send it to IT – they’ll know what to do. Screenshots can also be used to capture
tweets before they disappear from the internet forever – perfect for all those witty
thoughts that just happen to pop into your head and then disappear.
With the touch of a few buttons, you can easily take a screenshot of your screen
on your iPhone. A quick snap-and-share enables you to make your friends jealous
of what you’re doing on your phone in seconds.
How to Take a Screenshot on iPhone
Taking a screenshot has become a common occurrence for the average iPhone
user, but it can be difficult if you don’t know how to do it. Whether you have a
phone with a Home Button or a phone without one, follow these steps to learn how
to take screenshots on your iPhone.
On iPhone models with a Home button
Steps
Apple’s iPhones from the early models through to the iPhone 8 Plus all have a
Home button. To take a screenshot on an iPhone with the Home button, do the
following:
Step 1. Make sure that your iPhone is displaying the information or image you
wish to screenshot.
Step 2
Press the Power button and the Home
button at the same time.
Steps
Step 3. Quickly release both buttons.
Step 4. You’ll hear an audible click and see the screen flash. After that, the
screenshot should appear in the bottom-left corner. Once it slides away, the
screenshot will then be saved to the Photos app on your iPhone.
On iPhone models without a Home button
Steps
Touch ID is a thing of the past. Apple has now gone with Face ID, which is used
on newer iPhone models such as the iPhone X, XR, XS, 11, and 12. If your
iPhone doesn’t have a Home button and you close apps by swiping up from the
bottom of the screen, then you’re in this category.
Step 1. Be sure that when you take a screenshot on your iPhone, the image of
what you want to capture is clearly visible within the frame.
Step 2
Hold down the Power button on the
right and the Volume Up button on the
left at the same time.
Steps
Step 3. Quickly release both buttons.
Step 4. After that, an image of the screen should flash and show up briefly in the
bottom-left corner. And as soon as it’s gone you’ll find it in the Photos app.
How to Take a Screenshot on iPhone without
Pressing any buttons
Sometimes people find it hard to press two buttons at the same time. If this is the
case for you, try AssistiveTouch.
AssistiveTouch is an iOS accessibility feature that gives you alternative ways to
perform common tasks on your iPhone. You won’t have to press buttons or
perform swiping gestures if you use AssistiveTouch.
You can use AssistiveTouch to take screenshots of your screen. Just follow these
simple steps:
Steps
Step 1. Launch the Settings app.
Step 2. Select Accessibility on the Settings screen.
Step 3. Under the Physical and Motor section, tap Touch.
Step 4. On the Touch screen, choose AssistiveTouch.
Step 5
Tap the AssistiveTouch slider button to
enable AssistiveTouch. Make sure that
the button turns green.
Now that AssistiveTouch is turned on,
there are a few different ways you can
take screenshots.
Step 6
Select Double-Tap on the Custom Actions section. Then choose Screenshot.
Now, anytime you double-tap the AssistiveTouch button, a screenshot will be
taken.
How to View and Edit Your Screenshots
Steps
Once you’ve captured an iPhone screen, it will automatically save directly to your
Camera Roll.
Step 1. Launch the Photos app on the iPhone or iPad Home screen.
Step 2. Navigate to the Albums tab at the bottom of your screen.
Step 3
Tap Recents in the My Albums group
(or this might be called All Photos or
Camera Roll).
Step 4
Share your screenshots, favorite them, or just view them. If you want, you can
select multiple screenshots and share them using Airdrop.
You can use the camera icon in apps like Messages or Mail to insert your
screenshot into texts, emails, and more.
Step 5
If you decide to edit or markup your
screenshot, tap the Edit button on the
top-right corner of the photo. Next, hit
the ellipsis button at the top of the
screen. And then choose Markup and
wait for the editor to load.
The tools here are simple to use, but
let me quickly explain if you’re
unfamiliar with them. You have a
variety of choices at your fingertips.
For instance, on the top of the screen
are two buttons, undo and redo, to
help with mistakes. The bottom of the
screen has a variety of tools for you to
markup a picture. You can even add
text, signatures, magnifiers, and more.
Simply tap Done in the top-right corner
to save your screenshots. Or, if you
don’t care for them at all, you can
easily delete them as well and save
the headache of having to clean up
your camera roll later.
Hopefully, with the steps above, you’re able to take a
screenshot on your iPhone. Also, if you’re curious, here’s
How to Record Your Screen without the need to install third-
party apps. As a bonus, here’s How to Use the built-in
Camera app to scan QR codes on iPhone.
