AT TV Merger
In mid of 2014, a big merger and acquisition news was published in different print
and electronic media was that the AT T Inc. s acquisition of satellite TV provider
DirecTV. AT T will pay $48 billion in cash and $17 billion in debt. This acquisition
will make AT T as a unique competitor with un parallel capabilities in mobile, video
and broadband internetservices (Anonymous. 2014). AT T will borrow some money
and will issue stocks to perform the deal. The additional cash flow will be used to
cover up the debt. The merger/acquisition is still under process.
1.When the deal has been successfully completed, it is expected to generate
synergies in scale and scope for AT T. AT T will be able to increase its video
customers from 5.7 million (U verse only) to 26 million (Rogowsky, M., no date).
AT T will also be able to provide wireless combined with u Verse and DirecTV,
which will attract more customers. This merger/acquisition will increase its market
power which also will lower capital cost and improves the purchases and sales.

When two companies offer the similar or compatible products or services in the same
market and combines together under one owner is called horizontal merging (Linton,
no date). So, this is a horizontal merger which will increase the company s cash flow
and profit/revenue.
3.Although it is very complicated task to integrate the both companies successfully
under one umbrella. But AT T has previous merger experience which can lead to
successful integration of the companies.
4.I think there will be no market concentration occurred as a result of this merger
/acquisition. Because due to this acquisition the monopoly of the other giant company
in this business will be reduced. This will lead to increase the price competition.
Siberian Reindeer Culture In American Culture
Culture of the Siberian Reindeer People In American, there are a variety of
cultures within our country. We as nurses will come across many patients who s
culture differs from our own. In our practice it will benefit our patients and
ourselves to have a broad knowledge base of other cultures and how we will need to

Siberian Reindeertribes and how nursing care will be carried out to their beliefs. In
the Amur bend of outlet Manchuria the Siberian Reindeer people live in the
Verkhoyansk mountains of northeast Siberia, which is the coldest inhabited place on
earth with temperatures fall to 96f ( 71c). There are many tribes of the Siberian

Smallpox and influenza was passed on to the reindeer people by the Russians. At
this point the Russians introduced them to Western Medicine at a very low cost or

others place their believes in a healer know a Shaman. The shaman tended to the
health of the family. The sham specialized in dream interpretation in diagnosing the

the people ill. The healing takes place by the shaman finding the soul and returned it

Teaching is an essential part of nursing care for these people. The nurse would need to
educate these patients about sanitation, nutrition and preventing the spread of
disease. The OB patient would be at risk for nutrition imbalance due to less than body

The History Of Star Wars
May 25, 1977, was the day a whole new world of sci fi movies made an appearance
the first movie of the beloved Star Wars franchise came out. This series of movies
required several components, like acting and music. Months of preparation and
production made Star Wars one of the greatest. Star Wars, just like in any movie,
needed actors that wouldn t just perform their best, but also work by themselves to
memorize lines. Each person had a part, and, whether big or small, each part was
important. Often, the actors talk about what they had to accomplish during the
movie making process. Mark Hamill explains in a BBC Interview that often he had
to imagine what was going on in the background, which was actually a blue screen
(YouTube). Along with knowing their lines, they also had to know how to act. For
example, in The Force Awakens, Rey is a girl who is adventurous and brave, which
means Daisy Ridley had to act out those qualities in the movie.... Show more content

There was also an audition of roles that the actors had to try out for. In the BBC
Interview with Mark Hamill, he also explained that he had to audition for the part of
Luke Skywalker. He started acting when he was 12, went to a performing arts school,
and his first feature film was Star Wars. To get into a movie series as big as Star Wars
was a big deal. During the production of the film, as shown in the ABC News
interview with Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, there were lots of people

Russian culture is a melting pot of various combinations including ethnic groups,

Psychological and Sociological Factors in Smoking Addiction
Psychological and Sociological Factors in Smoking Addiction
Understanding the habit of smoking tobacco
The essay will discuss how smoking tobacco became a habit among people; what are
the factors that affect the thinking of individuals in experimenting tobacco smoking;
and what makes them think of quitting smoking. It will address both psychological
and sociological ideas and will attempt to apply each idea in order to understand
people s lifestyles.
Introduction
Tobacco is a green and leafy plant and mostly grows in a warm environment. When
it is fully grown, it will be harvested, dried, processed and can be used in different
ways. It can be smoked in the form of cigarette, cigar, pipe, sniffle through the nose
or it can also be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Department of Health (2003), Cancer Research UK (2010) and
the Office of National Statistics (2004), despite of the drop of statistics of
smokers, there are still individuals who would try smoking especially the young
people between the ages of eleven to sixteen. In the report of the three offices they
listed the main reasons why young people smoke and these are experimentation, to
look mature or part of their image, there are older people smokes around them,
especially their parents, and peer pressures (DH, 2003) (ONS, 2004) (CR UK, 2010).
This experimentation can be attributed through social learning theory, where
psychologists and theorists Julian Rotter and Albert Bandura describe it as how we
learn from others. Watching others can provide information on which kind of
behaviour leads to what consequences (Adams and Bromley, 1998). Parents have
strong influence among us. If we are surrounded by our family who smokes, there
is a strong possibility that we will imitate them. We also looked at other people
such as our peers, actors and singers. Seeing these people smoking can also lead us
to emulate them and try smoking. Once we learn to smoke, we keep smoking until it
will be hard for us to stop.
Another motive in experimentation among the young people came from advertising.
One example from one Tobacco Company which says I am no longer my mother s
Essay about Global Health and Diabetes
Global health is defined as health problems, issues, or concerns that transcend
national borders (Institute of Medicine, 1997, p. 2). Koplan (2009) proposed a new
definition for global health which he described as an area for study, research and
practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in healthfor
all people worldwide (para, 7). Global health emphasizes transnational health issues,
determinants, and solutions from an interdisciplinary perspective and blends
population health and clinical care.

global health describes the study of the health needs of the global community and its

which is driven by international trade and investment and aided by information

According to Goleman (2000), there are six leadership styles. And these are the
analysis of leadership styles of Branson: 2.3.1 Authoritative Branson have the ability
to articulate vision and mission of the company and win employee with its
enthusiasm. He also gives clear path for the employee so there is no more confusion.
2.3.2 Affiliative My philosophy is, put your employees first, your customers second
and your investors third and, in the end, everyone will be happy. (Branson, 2012)
Based on what Branson said, obviously that he has strong bond with the employee.
The employee adores the leader, they have high trusted to each other and loyal. 2.3.3
Democratic This style is focuses on decision making by consensus. With consensus,
comes commitment to goals, strategies, and tactics.
2.4 Roles Branson s role in the business is the founder and the chairman of Virgin
Group. He plays an important role in this business. Virgin group can grow as big as it
is because of the hard work of the leader with the helps of the employees.
2.5 Type of Leader There are some statements from Branson, for example, the
customer isn t always right , inexperience is advantage , and vacation is the secret to
success . Those statements make us wondering what type of leader Branson is.

Bicycle Thieves Analysis
While Rossellini s Rome Open City portrays the struggle for freedom, De Sica s
Bicycle Thieves tries to find the human face. He discovered it not in the
exceptional sorrow of war but in the misery of daily life where war is just one
aspect of the human lot. Bicycle Thieves takes place at a specific time under a
unique series of social conditions that shape both its narrative and its embrace of
the Neorealist style. Consider the intricate sociopolitical climate of Italy just before
the film s release in 1948. Italy would hold its first election after almost twenty years
of rule, Benito Mussolini was overthrown as head of Fascism and prime minister of
the Italian government on July 15, 1943. The political framework of the Italians...

We see alleyways, overflowing soup kitchen, and brothel neighborhood, and
everywhere hordes unemployed men whose frustration gives the film an urgent
energy. Amidst this contextual background, Bicycle Thieves therefore, makes a rare,
true entry in the Neorealism form in which only a handful of films qualify, even
though, it does not portray or refence the times of its making within the film, it rather
shows class division, and ineffective employment system. The film however, operates
in two distinct modes: the narrative of a profoundly human struggle for survival that
remains common to all, and the unromantic depiction of Italian class struggle in the
postwar era. In the latter mode, the film illustrates a series of behaviors, and social
structure that remain indifferent to Antonio and his desperate situation. It identifies
Antonio and his family by their situational relationship, with the various groups
present in Rome during the postwar period. E.g., Antonio s family is displaced from
his local group of communists, churchgoers, and market folks As Antonio and his
son Bruno undertake a desperate search through Rome, De Sica charts a geography
of poverty. We see alleyways, overflowing soup kitchen, and brothel neighborhood,
and everywhere hordes unemployed men whose frustration gives the film an urgent
energy. In a way, it could be said that Rome and its various neighborhood serve as
pseudo characters in the film. Beginning from the
Analysis Of The Book Time Travel
The title represents the major theme present in this novel: time travel. Henry is
diagnosed with a disorder known as Chrono Displacement, which causes him to
time travel. In the novel, Henry is married to Clare, and the story is based on their
love over the course of time. When Henry time travels, he cannot control when he
travels or where he travels to. A side effect of time travelis that he cannot bring
anything with him when he travels, so he ends up naked in strange locations. This is
one of the conflicts in the novel because Henry is constantly timetraveling, and, as a
result, Clare is often left waiting for Henry to come home.
Henry DeTamble: Henry works at the Newberry Library in Chicago in the special
collections section. He has a genetic disease (Chrono Displacement), which causes
him to time travel with no control over the destination or time. Stress causes him to
time travel, so he runs every morning as a way to stay calm.
Clare Abshire: Clare is a curious and open minded young artist who has been in
love with Henry since she was six years old. She is independent and strong willed.
Clare spends hours working in her art studio not only because art is her passion, but
because it helps her to escape her chaotic life and keep busy.
Charisse: Charisse is Clare s best friend and roommate. Whenever Clare needs her,
she is always there, as she is very loyal. Charisse is married to Gomez.
Gomez (Comrade): Gomez is good friends with Henry and Clare. He is addicted to

How The Tort Reform Has Impacted Individuals ...
On this film it is showcased through several different cases how the tort reform has
impacted individuals constitutional and civil rights. It also showcases how large
companies and political leaders have used their power for their own purposes as
well as to push legislature to pass through the White House and become law by
financing their campaigns and helping the candidates to win elections. One of
those laws was the caps on punitive damages through tort reform. The first case that
is discussed is Liebeck v. McDonald s Rests or Hot Coffee as it is well known for.
Stella Liebeck suffered immense burn damage on her thighs when a coffee from
McDonald spilled over her legs. She needed a surgical operation called skin graft,
where a piece of healthy skin is transplanted to a new site on the body, and other
medical assistance that reach over $100,000. She and her family tried to reach
McDonals to get a settlement for the damages, but was welcomed with denial and
lack of cooperation in settlements and coverage for medical expenses, so the
family decided to sue the company for gross negligence. Through the discovery
and length of the case it was discovered that the company had a large number of
complains with their coffee. It was also discovered that the coffee was made to be
from 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit, which can cause third degree burns in a few
seconds. When it came to allocations, 80% of the blame was placed on McDonals
and the remaining was placed on Stella; this
Electoral College vs Direct Popular Vote
The current process of electing the President of the United States through the
Electoral College system should not be changed because the Electoral College
system is superior in comparison to other comprehensive voting systems. Systems
like direct popular vote or the national popular vote may work in democracies;
however the United Statesis a federal republic. While allowing large metropolises and
large states to be represented in a manner consistent with their size, the Electoral
Collegehas the exceptional attribute of allowing small states and rural areas to still
maintain influence in the government. Allowing the entire nation to decide the
direction of our government ensures candidates appeal to the majority of the nation,
not just a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of this means that the Electoral College incentivizes broader and more national
policies from presidential candidates. The Founders understood that democracies
from the past ended in violent failure (Scharmm 2004). John Adams wrote
Democracy never lasts lang. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There
never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. (Ross 2004). Essentially,
the Founder s understood that because the basis of government under the
constitution is derived from the people, and people are not perfectly moral or
ethical beings, due diligence in the form the Electoral College is required to protect
the intrinsic right of each citizen (Scharmm 2004). The reason moderate policies are
encouraged under the Electoral College is because the current system requires
candidates to receive a plurality of the popular vote on the state level which creates
political platforms that have a state wide basis but are nationally competitive and
moderate because the majority of each state is taken into account, and policies that
benefit one state at the cost of another make it difficult to win the presidency under
the electoral college. (Eastland 1970)
Although rare, it is possible under the Electoral College that the winner of the
presidency loses the popular vote by a small margin. This mechanism is in place
however to prevent a candidate from pandering to a handful of populous

tribal belts of eastern India. There is a need for stringent action against the culprits.

following of religion are the main root causes of problem. Police always becomes
mute spectator in such cases and does not take action for fear of local disturbances

Mass Society in The Dharma Bums and The New American Poetry
One of the best ways to fully understand an era is to study its literature. The printed
word has the incredible capacity to both reflect and shape the hopes, fears, and
ideologies of the time. This is very evident when reading literature from 1960 s
America, a turbulent period in the history of our country. While the authors styles are
very different, there are definite thematic patterns and characteristics evident in many
of their works. For one, there is a prevalent concept of the unenlightened masses. This
concept serves as a foil for the enlightened few often represented as the main
characters and more specifically as the authors themselves. There also ... Show more

Lamantia also has a poem entitled Man Is In Pain (155, Poetry). Allen Ginsberg in
his poem Sunflower Sutra portrays the masses as sunflowers in a dirty railroad yard.
And finally, Jack Kerouac in his book The Dharma Bums portrays the masses as
sedentary bums (86) and as millions of the One Eye (104).
All of these images of mass society have a tone of despair and depression. People
are shown to be weary and confused, having lost the passion for life. Brautigan and
Barthelme seem most concerned with the concept of a class struggle; their masses
are poor and bitter. Kerouac is more concerned with the lazy masses that are
brainwashed by television and suburbia. The only hopeful view of the masses
comes from Ginsberg who sees a beauty in people that he feels is often covered and
masked by the ugliness of society.
Going along with the concept of mass society is that of an American Dream . The
masses are shown to be questing for some vision or goal that the writers believe to
be unrealistic and futile. Kerouac s masses are living the stereotypical American
Dream, with 2.5 kids in their nice little suburbs, watching television and chugging
along in their middle class lives. Yet they are unfulfilled, missing the much larger
dream in life. For Brautigan s
An Alien On Earth And Hunted Humans
Question One: If an alien race landed on Earth and hunted humans, we would need
many different protection methods. The five methods I think would benefit
humans the most in an alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong
claws, and strong jaws. Venom would be very important for my protection because
I would rather kill the aliens, instead of avoiding them. In order to inject venom
into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper teeth. I would sneak up on an
alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the venom affects them.
Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be another
important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they
would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a
large group, you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would
not be able to keep track of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This
would also include the speed of climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two
animals that utilize this method of protection are the cobra and the rattlesnake.
Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for humans if they were
being hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would allow
humans to swim quickly away from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet
look a lot different than they do now. We would walk differently with webbed feet,
but would swim very fast. I am a slow
Television And Reality Television Shows Essay
The media as a whole has been a huge impact on their viewers lives. People do not
just watch a television show, they tend to normalize the characters and their roles into
their day to day lives. When analyzing the media and focusing on drama and reality
television shows, the impact that these shows have on some of their women viewers
are noticeable. Televisiondrama shows are fictions that the average person can relate
to. They are made with real life problems that people can sympathize with.
Television dramas have become the newest therapy to people. People go to these
over dramatized shows for the answer to their problems. Most tend to forget that
these are fictional television shows, meaning they are made up characters with false
problems. These shows tend to show women as the house wife, pretty and skinny, and
powerful but weak minded. When looking at reality televisionalthough it is
unscripted and tend to be real life situations, producers do pick out cast that are not
relatable to and unlike the average person. On television dramas and reality shows
men tend to be shown as dominating women in relationships, as women are shown
as the men s trophy. Also, as a whole television dramas and reality shows show
women as sexy figures, emotionally unstable, and less than a man which effects their
everyday lives. Television dramas and reality shows has a negative effect on female
views by showing them in a negative light.
Since women made an appearance on television shows,
Black Cat Abolitionist
Longing for Liberation: Abolitionists and Women s Rights in The Black Cat In his
short story The Black Cat , Edgar Allan Poe constructs an allegory mirroring the
struggles of slavery and the abolitionist movement. Wrought with the tribulations of
slavery in 1840s, Poe s short story exemplifies the issues facing the Antebellum
United States by representing different participants in the horrors of slavery. Poe s
characters embody the roles of the slave master, the slave, and the abolitionist.
Initially, the narrator, or the slave master figure, introduces the audience to his
pleasant childhood disposition and love of animals. His temperament reflects society

Previously untouched by the horrors of slavery, the woman owns the pets , or
slaves, alongside her husband. As he mistreats the animals, he also begins to
mistreat her. As Poe writes, The moodiness of [the narrator s] usual temper
increased to hatred of all things and all of mankind... and ungovernable outbursts
of a fury...[his] uncomplaining wife, alas! was the most usual and most patient of
sufferers (699). Touched by the repercussions of the corruption of slavery, the
previously uncomplaining and docile wife immediately recognizes the evil in her
husband s attempted murder of another black cat, another slave. As the narrator, or
the slave owner, swings an ax to kill the slave, she grabs his hand in an attempt to
stop him. He turns on her, driving the ax into her brain. Utilizing diction like wrath
, hideous , and demonical , Poe creates a grotesque image of carnage as the slave
watches the abolitionist cut down by the oppressive slave owner and the woman
beat into silence by the oppressive patriarchy. The slave owner entombs the woman
s body in the cellar of their home. Unbeknownst to the master, the slave remains
with the body of the woman reflecting the solidarity between the Woman s Rights
Movement and the slaves. When police come looking for the wife, the slave cries
out a wailing shriek, half of horror and half of triumph...from the throats of the
damned in their agony and of the demons that exult in the damnation (Poe 701). In
this moment, the slave embodies the cries of the thousands of slaves and women not
only stripped of their rights, but also robbed of their lives by the violence of the
Maltese Falcon Essay
Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon is one of the most influence fiction novels
to the current literature world and also the current society. The novel was
published in 1930s when the society was experiencing the depressing period, which
people used this book as an escape for the reality; the story was designed to happen
in San Francisco where the city was used to be considered as a popular and
mystery urban city. This book became huge hit to the society based on its mystery
detective plots and the attractive characters, which set up the ideal of certain
characters and also the hard boiled style. The main character of The Maltese Falcon,

Even though Sam was doing his job, however, while the ideal audiences enjoyed
this scene as they were connected themselves to Sam who has the power over
women, they were also justified what Sam was doing. A woman being naked in
front of men was already one judgment that audiences would faced, needless to say
by using job as an excuse to satisfy personal desire, the audiences were again facing
the situation that they have to balance the enjoyment and moral judgments. In the
novel, Sam Spade was playing a character who are surrounding by women. Iva

moral sense of the society, cheating is unforgettable, this gave Sam a negative image
and which also invited the audiences to justify his attitude toward Iva as an
The De Pere Area Chamber Of Commerce
I started my internship with the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce in the first
week of June. Beginning my internship I wasn t sure what to expect. I had ideas
about what I was going to be doing, but wasn t sure. Whether the task was big or
small I knew I wanted to contribute. At the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce I
tend to work Monday through Friday. On Monday through Thursday I usually work
10am to 3pm. However, I work a second job bartending at the Hyatt in Green Bay.
Sometimes the hours overlap and I am forced to leave my internshipearly. On Fridays
I go into my internship, but for limited time. Normally, I go to work for 10:30am to
12pm or longer, depending on what my director needs from me. On average I work
at the Chamber20 22 hours a week. The average can be less or more depending on
what is being worked on. So far my work has been diverse at the Chamber of
Commerce. In the beginning I wrote on press releases (announcing my hiring at the
Chamber), I wrote a interndescription and worked on improving their website. As
time went on, I worked with them to help organize certain events. The De Pere
Chamber hosted Art in the Park and is currently hosting their annual charity golf
outing. With the events I did things like, call sponsors, follow up with people, pick
up posters for the events and met up attendees and collect their payments. Other
times, I did simple things for the Chamber like, order up to date brochures, painted a
wall and organized the

Miss Julie and Swedish Culture
Miss Julie and Swedish Culture
The play Miss Julie by August Strindberg is set in Sweden in the late 1800 s on the
count s estate. The play unfolds on Midsummer s eve throughout the night of the
annual celebration. Jean, a thirty year old valet, is attempting to enjoy an evening in
the kitchen with his lover Christine who works alongside Jean on the manor as a
cook. The couples evening is rudely interrupted by miss Julie, the count s bitter
daughter, who requests Jean be her dance partner at the festivities. The two risk being
caught together to continue talking through the night. However, throughout the night
both Jean and Julie reveal who they really are which leads them to resent one
another and eventually leads Julie to take her own life. Her suicide is the focus of the
dramatic play but the theme of honor and respect pair together to guilt the young lady
to her end. August Strindberg s play Miss Julie is an accurate depiction of late 1800 s
Swedish culture is every respect.
It is not a coincidence that the play Miss Julie hits the cultural bulls eye. The writer
Johan August Strindberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1849 and was a citizen of
Sweden for a majority of his life. Many of the themes of the play such as socio
economic classes, religion, and gender roles doubled as themes of Strindberg s life.
In his autobiographical novel The Son of a Servant (1886), Strindberg underlines the
class difference between his parents as one source of the conflict in his nature
Leadership In The Aeneid
The Aeneid is an epic poem about the man whose descendants will found Rome.
Aeneas, is portrayed as a warrior and leader to his people and, as his name
represents, stayed duty bound to his destiny to get to Italy to found Rome. Aeneas
first exhibits many great qualities as a leader, he is probably not a perfect leader but
he has the best leadership skills out of all the other characters in the Aeneid. In other
words, Aeneasbecomes the golden standard for leadership that Virgilportrays. Second,
although Aeneas often seems to stray from his path or become disheartened, he
remains duty bound to his task and is readily able to rally his men and make allies.
Even though Aeneas makes mistakes or loses heart, he still is able to perform the role

For example, Aeneas is able to put others before himself many times which allows
for his goals to get accomplished and the overall happiness of his men. Other
characters with leadership positions often do not showcase this quality. Jupiter, for
one, does not seem to be the type to suffer for the sake of his underlings. First of
all, he is a god which could make him immune to suffering. And second, he simply
does not seem to care enough about the world to make an effort to change it too
much. Jupiter, of course, does act in the mortal world by making destinies for
mortals. However, because of his lack of leadership over the other gods, the fate
Jupiter sets out for mortals often becomes a tangled mess due to interference from
the gods. Jupiter, king of the gods, does not showcase a willingness to put others
before himself to accomplish his goals. He simply procrastinates and allows those
under him to take charge. Additionally, Aeneas makes a mistake to fall in love with
Queen Dido of Carthage. He quickly becomes comfortable in Carthage and is quite
content to stay when the gods tell him he must leave because Aeneas s destiny is not
to settle in Carthage, but in Italy. Aeneas is able to leave, reluctantly, and continue
with his destiny to found Rome in Italy. Even though Aeneas blunders in his travels,
he is
Colleges Versus Their Dropouts Summary
In the article Colleges Versus Their Dropouts: Who Comes Out On Top? Natalie
Sportelli states that most people believe the key to success is determined by their
college diplomas, however, talented people can still achieve in their life without
owning a college degree. The author illustrates his idea by demonstrating several
famous people s examples. For instance, Bill Gates succeeded by earning 80 billion
dollars. Another example is Lady Gaga who has an outstanding number of 41.6
million followers on twitter.
Apart from the idea that college degree does not decide the path of life, the author
asserts that it is still worth people s time. According to the author s data, most
people who do not own a college degree perform worse in careers
Charlemagne The Great Influence
Every culture in history has had leaders that are remembered as larger than life,
Moses, Attila the Hun, Henry VIII, and George Washington, just to name a few. All
of these great leaders were famous in their own time, or perhaps infamous, and
modern historians wade through countless documents and stories to piece together
the facts from the legends. Few of those memorable figures have actually retained the
moniker the great through the ages, yet the Frankish king Charles remains
Charlemagne the Great (Guizot, n.d.). Ruler of a vast empire, Charlemagne
maintained rigid control of his Frankish empire for over 40 years using his boundless
energy, spiritual fervor, scholarship, strategic initiative and calculated military
conquests. Because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He managed his kingdom through counts, each managing one of around 600
counties, who reported directly to their king(McKay et al., 2015, p. 230). Traveling
extensively throughout his kingdom, he allowed his people to physically see the
strength of his government and person, a wise reminder of exactly whom they
served. He also saw great value in building up the infrastructure of his larger cities and
poured money into constructing bridges, palaces and restoring places of worship. A
brilliant tactician, through marriages, treaties, and wars, he managed to create and
maintain alliances with bordering nations that allowed him to expand the empire,
while also protecting it(Guizot, n.d.). Fearless and ruthless, Charlemagne united
much of the European continent under one rule and created a kingdom rivaling the
vastness of Rome. He is credited with stopping the influx of Islamic and pagan
religions into western Europe and established a stronghold for the Christian

Penicillin s mass production has led to one of the biggest pharmaceutical advances
and the development of today s medicinal drugs. A Pharmacists role has evolved
vastly in the past century. Pharmacy is a science that integrates health and chemical
sciences.
Biology lends itself well to Pharmacy in terms of the physiology of the body and
how chemical constituents of a drug affect certain areas of the body in different
ways and to some extent the body s natural defence mechanisms to fighting an illness
or disease, as the ability of antibiotics to inhibit the growth of bacteria and the
impacts of antibiotic resistance due to repetitive use of antibiotics which can lead to
them failing to treat a bacterial infection and has allowed me to look at the effects of
drugs on a biochemical level and also the effects of drugs on the synapses of neurones.
Also by studying A Level Psychology, I have been able to see the implications of
the drug s effects on the neurones and the impact they have on the brain and an
individual s behaviour. An example of this is the drug Prozac which is now banned
in some countries due to the increased number of cases of suicide in the people who
were taking the medication. Also, the pharmaceutical industry has also looked into
the effects of Placebo s in treatment as controls to test whether a drug is effective,
which brings in the element of Psychology in Pharmacy.
By currently pursuing A Level Chemistry, I have been able to study one of the
French Revolution Vs Napoleon
Thesis: The French Revolution did not simply aim to establish amendments to the old
form of government: it sought to completely abolish the old regime, erasing all traces
of the previously established authority, destroying any of its political influences, and
redefining traditions; in other words, it strove to destroy anything that could lead
back to what France was before the great Revolution.
One of the foremost measures of the French Revolution was an assault upon the
Church.
Of the considerable number of interests to which that Revolution conceived, that of
irreligion was the first principal encouraged, as it was the last stifled.
Napoleon stifled the liberal soul of the Revolution, yet he could not vanquish its
hostility to Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Such were, for example, the doctrines of the natural equality of man, and the

sovereignty, the paramount authority of the social body, the uniformity of rules.
These doctrines are not only the causes of the French Revolution; they are, so to
speak, its substance; they constitute the most fundamental, the most durable, the
truest portion of its work.
The other system was widely different: its leaders attacked the Church with absolute
fury; they assailed its clergy, its hierarchy, its institutions, and its doctrines to tear up
Christianity by the roots.
All political and civil revolutions have been bound to a single nation. The French
Revolution had no nation; one of its driving effects was seen to destroy national

The Importance Of Reflection
All professionals will find that reflecting on the way they carry out their work can
help them improve the quality of their skills. This is even more important in work
involving a continual increase in understanding, such as fields with ongoing research
like osteopathy. ( Ncor 2017) Reflecting has become a necessary skill for those in
healthcare who want to provide the highest level of care they can for their patients. It
has been proposed that reflectionis a more meaningful method of learning than formal
teaching. (Jasper 2003) This essay will question that statement; briefly describe how
to reflect and will contrast the benefits and drawbacks.
Reflection process:
In a healthcare setting reflection is the process of critiquing one s experiences by
analysing them based on the relevant literature. (Reid 1993) Professor Graham Gibbs
provides a 6 stage process that can be followed: (Gibbs 1988)
Description simply describe what has happened. It can be useful to describe the
experience in the most matter of fact way so that it can be examined clearly.
Feelings explain how the incident made you feel.
Evaluation explain what was good and/or bad about the incident. This will help in
identifying what areas need additional study.
Analysis what understanding do you have of the incident? This step is crucial in
developing skill but can also be the most challenging. This step requires the
practitioner being able to look at the experience objectively. The nature of being
self critical is that it comes easier to some than it does for others. Someone with a
large ego may have a lot of trouble with this stage but to truly reflect they will need
to learn to be able to criticise themselves. Reflection without critical analysis has little
value as it will serve to mask weak areas of knowledge (Kralik, 2005)
Conclusion decide whether you could have done anything else.
Action plan using the knowledge gained from the previous stages prepare for if the
situation arises again.
Strengthening through reflection:
The osteopathic standards (OPS) are put in place to ensure a high standard of care
is carried out by all UK osteopaths. B4 of the OPS states that professional knowledge
and skills must be kept up

Chance won 3 Grammy awards. He was the recipient of the best rap album, best

artists who have been in the music industry. He effortlessly sends positive signals

themselves look bad by embracing violence and horrendous actions toward others.

Importance Of Tattoos In The Workplace
Once viewed as taboo, it is not uncommon in today s society to see people with
tattoos. From symbolic to decorative, tattoos have infiltrated the culture and have
become normalized amongst commoners. Tattoos are no longer how people
remember as a kid where they stick on and last for a while, and there is a lot of
thought and value that go into it yet alone the pain aspect. With that being said
why would one want to get a tattoo just to be told it doesn t meet the requirement
of the work field and they most cover it up? When people get new cars and
decorate them or even anything that holds value to them, they embrace and boost
it so that others can see what they take such pride in and embrace it as well; tattoos
are the same way. In recent times, the debate has been whether tattoos are
appropriate for the workplace and if so, to what extent. I feel as if tattoos should
never hold any negative connotation to any desired workplace as they do not deter
away from the tools and performance skills one has to offer to a company. When
asking employers about how they feel about the appearance of tattoos, many will
reply with adjectives such as unprofessional, unethical, and improper but what they
fail to realize is that professionalism lies in the treatment of people, not the
appearance of one s skin. Business will often lose clients due to the lack of customer
service skill. The quality of the employee is what increases the productivity and
development of a company. Contrary to
Float In A Violent Generation
We are survivors. This generation is, statistically, the most depressed, suicidal, and
anxiety ridden generation as to date. As aforementioned, multiple school shootings
have occurred as well. Popular politicians campaign to silence the voices of the
masses, but we refuse to be quieted. Our generation has survived what has been
thrown at us, and as a result, we are throwing everything we have back at our
attackers. The bottom line is that we, as a generation, are survivors who are
managing to keep afloat in the violent seas of today. This is important because this
character trait, of being persistent, whether it be to get something petty as most
people think, or to advocate change for the masses, will end up helping us change
what is happening.
Uniform Commercial Code 2b the
A new law will probably be introduced into state legislatures which will govern all
contracts for the development, sale, licensing, and support of computer software.
This law, which has been in development for about ten years, will be an amendment
to the Uniform Commercial Code. The amendment is called Article 2B (Law of
Licensing) and is loosely based on UCC Article 2 (Law of Sales), which governs
sales of goods in all 50 states. A joint committee of the National Conference of
Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) and the American Law Institute
is drafting the changes to the UCC. The UCC was drafted in the 1950 #8217;s and
currently governs the sales of goods but not products like software, which are
licensed, not sold.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Article 2B says that the publisher doesn #8217;t have to show software customers
the terms until after the sale, when it #8217;s too late to do comparison shopping.
By then, the consumer has already started installing the software. The customer is
deemed to have accepted the terms of the contract if he/she uses the product
instead of returning it. All of the terms of the agreement are now fully enforceable
as if the consumer had reviewed, discussed, and signed a paper contract before the
sale. Many of the shrink wrap software licenses say that once you break the seal
and use the software, you #8217;re releasing the vendor from all warranties.
Basically, the software has been sold #8220;as is #8221; and you #8217;ve given
up your legal recourse if it doesn #8217;t perform as claimed, damages your
computer, or has bugs that lead to errors. Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty
Improvement Act customers are entitled to see the warranty of any goods sold for
$15 or more. It is not unreasonable to assume that software purchased for home
usage would be covered by the Act. But software customers rarely get to see the
warranties provided with software until after the sale. Article 2B characterizes mass
market software sales as licenses, which may not be covered by the Magnuson Moss
Act. Products normally come with an implied warranty of merchantability, which
states that the product will be fit for ordinary use, it will
Theme Of Female Autonomy In Beowulf
Does the poet use the female characters in Beowulf to reinforce the limits of female
autonomy?
In regard to female autonomy and Beowulf, it cannot be ignored that many of the
women portrayed in the poem were acting as expected of them in the time period, or
alternatively acting against it. The two main examples of this within Beowulf are the
characters of Wealtheow and Grendel s mother. Both of these women highlight how
this society impacts and limits female autonomy, but both women seemingly went
down different life paths and here I will examine how this relates to how female
autonomy in this world has impacted them. Wealtheow and Grendel s mother are
arguably the two most important female characters in Beowulf, and out of all the

While I only focused on two women in particular, there are many other instances of
women within Beowulf being literally sold off, being pushed to the side and
remaining quiet and letting the men of the society rule. The characters of
Wealtheow and Grendel s mother are two sides of a coin, with one living as a
queen but not really existing or forging her own values, and the other being shunned
for rejecting the patriarchal attitudes and finding her own rules to abide by. But yet,
both of these characters provided enough information on the society to highlight the
gross inequality that women or female figures at this time felt despite having only
minor parts in the life of the hero Beowulf, and to him (and all the other men)
neither of these women were more than a small blip on his radar. This subconscious
disregard of femininity on both Beowulf s and the entire society s part only serves to
limit the autonomy of the females who existed alongside them and to highlight my
points of how it

There was a marked improvement in China s economy. To further increase and
attract foreign investment, the Chinese government increased its numbers of
experimental, special economic zoned cities in which foreigners could operate a
business. There were, however, restrictions set forward by the government. One
restriction in 1996 was that all foreign businesses would have to be in a joint
venture or other type of cooperative agreement with at least one Chinese partner,
with that Chinese partner getting a stake greater than 51%. In August 1995, Wal
Mart, the great American retail chain and Middle America success story, arrived in
China, establishing a joint venture with Shenzhen International Fiduciary

economic zone of Shenzhen, in the southernmost Guangdong Province. However,
it took the Chinese government s removal of further trade restrictions for foreign
retailers in 2004 for Wal Mart to kick start its expansion plans. Three years later, in
2007, Wal Mart acquired a 35% stake in Trust Mart, a Taiwanese owned chain of
retail supercentres operating in the Middle Kingdom. By 5 August 2010, Wal Mart

What Is Failure In College

Through failure you are supposed to look at the positives and learn from the
outcome. Most of my intentions in life began with failure. My academic ambition

College has always been a dream for me. My mother started college during

Academics and Athletics were praised in my family. Starting freshman year I had to

the sports I participated in. For a while, it was a success. During my sophomore
year I began to question many aspects of my life. Like most teens, small problems
with my parents started to arise, only mine weren t small. My mother and I both
deeply suffered from our daily feuds with each other that eventually lead to a
mother daughter divorce. I moved out and in with my father. I thought being away
from my mother would bring some happiness, it only got worse. I missed her

chose this event as my practicum project because it was a great need at the
Administrative Offices. Because Miracle Hill Ministries is a non profit organization,
this event is fulfilled through the donations and the volunteerism of the South
Carolina community. This need was brought to my attention soon after I started my
practicum hours.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Planning started early on, including the donations that were needed and the number
of volunteers we would need to successful fulfil this event. I started by calling and
emailing volunteers that were interested in volunteering at the event. I also helped
edit and create the various Needs on the website. Lisa Yerrick made me a manager
over the system so that I could create and edit both the Needs and Responses on the
website. All this planning, training, and contacting came together smoothly on
Tuesday the 21st. I arrived at the Spartanburg Rescue Mission at 8 o clock in the
morning and helped check volunteers in. As I was checking volunteers into the
system, I was also helping train other volunteers on the system. In addition to
checking volunteers in, I also helped guide volunteers to their various job locations.
This day was very successful as I continually checked volunteers in until 2:30. I am
thankful for this opportunity and the insight that this event gave
War Of Superiority In Tennessee Williams A Streetcar
Named...
War of Superiority The tensions discovered in the French Quarter in A Streetcar
Named Desire are characteristic of the entire country in that time period. A Streetcar
Named Desire tells of struggle between heritage, money, and gender in the early
twentieth century. Written in 1947, the author Tennessee Williams had personal
relations to these conflicts as he grew up surrounded by them. In one of his works, A
Streetcar Named Desire, he addresses these societal problems with the competition
between the characters Blanche, a melodramatic romantic, and Stanley, a stubborn
realist. The list of differences between these characters could not be longer, but this
makes the perception of their similarities all the more significant. Surprisingly, these
conflicting characters demonstrate similarities in that they: believe they are superior
to all else, are possessive and manipulative for their own benefit, and... Show more

In the quote, May I speak plainly?... If you ll forgive me, he s common... He s like
an animal. (page 82), Blanche refers to her sister s husband with complete
disregard for others perception. Stella generally ignores these statements, but an
eavesdropping Stanley takes these insults to fuel his own retaliation. This quote
also shows that Blanche ranks her opinion over all else, and to her it is not an
opinion but a hard fact. Stanley also follows this characteristic in his everyday life.
As an Alpha Male type figure, Stanley always meets conflicts with violence and
will fight with every ounce of his being for what he believes no matter the
consequences. This can be seen by his actions as the man of the house, presiding
over Stella and all else that enters the premises. Alike Blanche, Stanley has no cares
about collateral damage and if the end justifies the means; he will have no hesitation
in doing what he feels is
Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech
Al Gore s speech titled Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech is a powerful work of
literature which serves two purposes. The first purpose is stated in the title to
accept his award of the Nobel Peace Prize. The second intent he had when writing
the speech was to reiterate his points that awarded him the honor in the first place.
The speech explains his passion for the problem in our world that is the climate
change and how much we pollute our earth. To give a short gist of what his cause
was, the following quote offers much insight to the regretful aspect of our society that
he is passionate about fixing. He says So today, we dumped another 70 million tons
of global warming pollution into the thin shell of atmosphere surrounding our planet,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His call to actions is for us to choose between two futures. He goes on to explain
further by challenging the reader to challenge assumption as well as repetition.
Challenging us to question the repetition that would eminently happen if we don t
unify and majorly change our actions. His persuasion is made very strong and hard
hitting when he says we are standing at the most fateful fork in that path. So I want
to end as I began, with a vision of two futures each a palpable possibility and with a
prayer that we will see with vivid clarity the necessity of choosing between those
two futures, and the urgency of making the right choice now. Reading this quote
gives the feeling of being very inspired and feeling empowered. That being said, I
feel Gore should have given more concrete action that he proposes we take. He
should have said things such as we should stop allowing every person to drive a
motor vehicle as much as they please. If he d said something along those lines, it
puts a specific concern in mind and helps along the putting the reality of better,
healthier world into fruition. He also could have proposed that perhaps every
person who owns a vehicle be required to plant a tree once a year. His speech was
powerful with lots of drawing of parallels, a lot of analogies, and many accounts of
making associations. While he is lacking a concrete and specific remedy for our
current situation, maybe it is okay. Perhaps all we need is to see that we do have a
choice in how we can influence the world, and the rest is up to us to draw from the
inspiration and coordinate our own, personal next move to attain the goal that has

Essay on A clean well-lighted Place
Hemingway s short story, quot;A Clean Well lighted Place quot;, takes place at a
cafe very late at night. Two waiters are watching their last, lingering customer, an old
man, who is by now very drunk. The younger waiter s impatience and the older
waiter s understanding toward the old man carryout the theme of the story: quot;It
[life] was all a nothing and a man was a nothing too. quot;(114) Man must
consequently find something to distract himself from his horrible truth. For the old
man and the older waiter, quot;a cleanand well lighted quot; cafeis such an escape.
The pervading metaphor in this story is predictably, the quot;clean well lighted place.
quot; The story s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The old man once had quot;youth quot;, quot;confidence quot;, quot;a job quot;
and a wife. However, by now, he has nothing but money, which is not able to
comfort his loneliness; he has nothing but an old body, which people think that it
is nasty. His niece looks after him. But all they care about is his money. The reason
that they saved him from the suicide is the quot;fear for his should. quot;(111) The
older waiter sees the dark truth of life from the old man. Like the old man, he has
stared into the Great Nada, quot;...It [life] was all a nothing and a man was a
nothing too... quot; (114) Unable to bear the darkness of his world, the older waiter
is quot;reluctant to close up because there may be some one who needs the cafe
quot; (113), as he wishes also to remain in the light.
In this short story, Hemingway expresses a completely nihilistic worldview: life is
meaningless, and filled with darkness. He believes that people shout find a method
of coping with life s hardships in a graceful, dignified manner. Like the elderly
drinker, despite the obvious hardships in his life (since he attempts suicide), he
doesn t lose his cool, but finding his own way of exhibiting grace under pressure,
which is to drink in a clean and

Pillars Of Excellence In Health Care
Being a professional, the pillars of excellence is something worth looking into. There
would be no reason to try to recommend something different for the company because
the Pillars of Excellence is working well for that company. It provides balance and
guidance to enhance the organizational goals. According to Sharp Healthcare (2017)
The seven pillars Quality, Safety, Service, People, Finance, Growth and Community
are a visible testament to our commitment in making Sharp the best health care
system in the universe by achieving excellence in these areas (www.sharp.com,

standards and customersatisfaction. Safety is pretty self explanatory and would be

The Vignette There Was An Old Woman
Do you believe minors need supervision to make sure they don t do anything?
Yummy is about a kid name Robert Sandifer who is 11 years old and had been
involved in a gang named the Black Disciples, and he tried to prove himself by
shooting a rival gang member. When doing that, he missed and shot Shavon Dean
and killed her. After that he had been on the run for a long time trying to get away
from the cops. His own gangmembers had believed that he had drawn too much
attention to their gang the Black Disciples and eventually murdered him. The
vignette There Was An Old Woman is about how this woman named Rosa Vargas
had lots of kids. Her kids did whatever they wanted, Angel Vargas believed that he
could fly and jumped of the roof and killed himself. The overall message of Sandra
Cisneros and Gregory Neri of these two stories was that minors need supervision so
they will not do things that can lead to horrible things happening.
Supervision is needed to make sure the minors don t do anything bad. In the
vignette There was an Old Woman it stated, But after a while you get tired of
worrying about kids who aren t even yours. Rosa Vargas kids did whatever they
wanted and never listened to the neighbors, eventually the neighbors gave up on
trying to stop them from doing bad things. In Yummy, it reads that There were so
many kids, Yummy could disappear for days and nobody d notice. Robert Sandifer
(Yummy) could run away from home and he could go somewhere without someone

Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Auschwitz was a death and labor concentration camp during World war II. It was
founded in April, 1940 by Hitler and the SS, and located in Poland. The camp was
extremely violent, murderous, and an evil place. It was the home to the murder of
1.5 million Jews. Sadly it had the most deaths of any concentration camp ever. It
was first being used to hold Polish political prisoners, people who spoke out against
Hitler after the Germans took over Poland starting World War II. The whole area
consisted of three total camps over the period from its founding to liberation in
1945 near the end of WWII. It consisted of Auschwitz I, (The original prisoner
holding camp,) Auschwitz II, (a labor/extermination camp founded in 1941,) and
Auschwitz III, (a labor camp to staff a chemical factory known as IG Farben.) It also
contained 36 other sub camps. The camp was liberated by the advancing Russian
forces on January 27th, 1945. The Russians expected a huge fight, knowing it was the
worst concentration camp, but to their surprise, the Nazis had evacuated the camp.
They took as many prisoners as they could on death marches to other holding camps.
About 15,000 prisoners were murdered on these marches.... Show more content on

They saw 600 corpses rotting, and 7,500 barely surviving prisoners either starving,
or sick. They also found an astonishing 8.5 TONS of human hair. No one should
ever have to bear what these Russian soldiers saw and had to deal with. Since the
camp was so large, it took four divisions to liberate the entire area. These divisions
included the 322nd Rifle Division, 100th Rifle Division, 286th Rifle Division, and
107th Motor Rifle Division of the Russian Army, also know as the Red Army.
Because the Russians were focusing their press on the betrayal of Hitler s alliance
and the war, the liberation didn t get much attention from the news at that

Be Careful of What You Carry with You
Your Social Security card is unique to you and you alone. Because of this do not
carry your Social Security card in your wallet or purse. Also, never write it on checks.
Never give your Social Security number to someone who calls you on the phone. In
telephone situations give it only to companies that you trust, i.e. a credit card
company that YOU have called to verify who you are.
Although it is easy to forget your PIN number, especially if it is a unique one, which

On Mr. Mendal s website, he states that anyone can kill a Chupacabra if they have
patients. (Mendal). Whether a Chupacabra is actually an easy creature to hunt and
kill is not the real concern for most people. Most are after the truth of whether or not
the Chupacabra is actually a real creature. People of South America believe this
creature is real by majority. The
Chupacabra is a main part of their heritage and culture.
Local scientists have recently debunked the mystery of the Chupacabra. Recently, it
has been determined that our mythical Chupacabra creature is actually just an animal
with no hair. In fact, recent years have turned up many different types of dead
hairless animals that seem to be undetectable as a well know species. Researchers
first thought this condition to be a terrible case of mange. Recent studies have
actually uncovered many different types of animals to have this hairless condition to
include: Raccoons, dogs, coyotes, and wolves.
Researchers now believe this condition to be a strange genetic mutation that causes
the animal to be born without hair. A recent show on televisions Dirty Jobsby Mike
Rowe, shows an actual Chupacabra found in Texas. This animal seems to be
related to a coyote. No evidence has ever been given to support an alien type creature
with red glowing eyes. The Chupacabra will always be a local legend among the
people of South America. People will always hold onto their love of a

Watching others can provide information on which kind of behaviour leads to what consequences (Adams and Bromley, 1998). Parents have strong influence among us. If we are surrounded by our family who smokes, there is a strong possibility that we will imitate them. We also looked at other people such as our peers, actors and singers. Seeing these people smoking can also lead us to emulate them and try smoking. Once we learn to smoke, we keep smoking until it will be hard for us to stop. Bicycle Thieves takes place at a specific time under a unique series of social conditions that shape both its narrative and its embrace of the Neorealist style. Consider the intricate sociopolitical climate of Italy just before the film s release in 1948. A side effect of time travelis that he cannot bring anything with him when he travels, so he ends up naked in strange locations. This is one of the conflicts in the novel because Henry is constantly timetraveling, and, as a result, Clare is often left waiting for Henry to come home. Henry DeTamble: Henry works at the Newberry Library in Chicago in the special collections section. He has a genetic disease (Chrono Displacement), which causes him to time travel with no control over the destination or time. Stress causes him to time travel, so he runs every morning as a way to stay calm. Clare Abshire: Clare is a curious and open minded young artist who has been in love with Henry since she was six years old. She is independent and strong willed. • 14. How The Tort Reform Has Impacted Individuals ... On this film it is showcased through several different cases how the tort reform has impacted individuals constitutional and civil rights. It also showcases how large companies and political leaders have used their power for their own purposes as well as to push legislature to pass through the White House and become law by financing their campaigns and helping the candidates to win elections. One of those laws was the caps on punitive damages through tort reform. The first case that is discussed is Liebeck v. McDonald s Rests or Hot Coffee as it is well known for. Stella Liebeck suffered immense burn damage on her thighs when a coffee from McDonald spilled over her legs. She needed a surgical operation called skin graft, where a piece of healthy skin is transplanted to a new site on the body, and other medical assistance that reach over $100,000. She and her family tried to reach McDonals to get a settlement for the damages, but was welcomed with denial and lack of cooperation in settlements and coverage for medical expenses, so the family decided to sue the company for gross negligence. Through the discovery and length of the case it was discovered that the company had a large number of complains with their coffee. It was also discovered that the coffee was made to be from 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit, which can cause third degree burns in a few seconds. When it came to allocations, 80% of the blame was placed on McDonals and the remaining was placed on Stella; this

Systems like direct popular vote or the national popular vote may work in democracies; however the United Statesis a federal republic. While allowing large metropolises and large states to be represented in a manner consistent with their size, the Electoral Collegehas the exceptional attribute of allowing small states and rural areas to still maintain influence in the government. All of this means that the Electoral College incentivizes broader and more national policies from presidential candidates. The Founders understood that democracies from the past ended in violent failure (Scharmm 2004). John Adams wrote Democracy never lasts lang. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. (Ross 2004). Essentially, the Founder s understood that because the basis of government under the constitution is derived from the people, and people are not perfectly moral or ethical beings, due diligence in the form the Electoral College is required to protect the intrinsic right of each citizen (Scharmm 2004). The reason moderate policies are encouraged under the Electoral College is because the current system requires candidates to receive a plurality of the popular vote on the state level which creates political platforms that have a state wide basis but are nationally competitive and moderate because the majority of each state is taken into account, and policies that benefit one state at the cost of another make it difficult to win the presidency under the electoral college. (Eastland 1970) Although rare, it is possible under the Electoral College that the winner of the presidency loses the popular vote by a small margin. This mechanism is in place however to prevent a candidate from pandering to a handful of populous

Mass Society in The Dharma Bums and The New American Poetry One of the best ways to fully understand an era is to study its literature. The printed word has the incredible capacity to both reflect and shape the hopes, fears, and ideologies of the time. This is very evident when reading literature from 1960 s America, a turbulent period in the history of our country. While the authors styles are very different, there are definite thematic patterns and characteristics evident in many of their works. For one, there is a prevalent concept of the unenlightened masses. This concept serves as a foil for the enlightened few often represented as the main characters and more specifically as the authors themselves. There also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lamantia also has a poem entitled Man Is In Pain (155, Poetry). Allen Ginsberg in his poem Sunflower Sutra portrays the masses as sunflowers in a dirty railroad yard. And finally, Jack Kerouac in his book The Dharma Bums portrays the masses as sedentary bums (86) and as millions of the One Eye (104). All of these images of mass society have a tone of despair and depression. People are shown to be weary and confused, having lost the passion for life. Brautigan and Barthelme seem most concerned with the concept of a class struggle; their masses are poor and bitter. Kerouac is more concerned with the lazy masses that are brainwashed by television and suburbia. The only hopeful view of the masses comes from Ginsberg who sees a beauty in people that he feels is often covered and masked by the ugliness of society. Going along with the concept of mass society is that of an American Dream . The masses are shown to be questing for some vision or goal that the writers believe to be unrealistic and futile. Kerouac s masses are living the stereotypical American Dream, with 2.5 kids in their nice little suburbs, watching television and chugging along in their middle class lives. Yet they are unfulfilled, missing the much larger dream in life. For Brautigan s

The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom would be very important for my protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of avoiding them. In order to inject venom into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group, you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection are the cobra and the rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for humans if they were being hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would allow humans to swim quickly away from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet look a lot different than they do now. We would walk differently with webbed feet, but would swim very fast. I am a slow

Televisiondrama shows are fictions that the average person can relate to. They are made with real life problems that people can sympathize with. Television dramas have become the newest therapy to people. People go to these over dramatized shows for the answer to their problems. Most tend to forget that these are fictional television shows, meaning they are made up characters with false problems. These shows tend to show women as the house wife, pretty and skinny, and powerful but weak minded. When looking at reality televisionalthough it is unscripted and tend to be real life situations, producers do pick out cast that are not relatable to and unlike the average person. Black Cat Abolitionist Longing for Liberation: Abolitionists and Women s Rights in The Black Cat In his short story The Black Cat , Edgar Allan Poe constructs an allegory mirroring the struggles of slavery and the abolitionist movement. Wrought with the tribulations of slavery in 1840s, Poe s short story exemplifies the issues facing the Antebellum United States by representing different participants in the horrors of slavery. Poe s characters embody the roles of the slave master, the slave, and the abolitionist. Touched by the repercussions of the corruption of slavery, the previously uncomplaining and docile wife immediately recognizes the evil in her husband s attempted murder of another black cat, another slave. As the narrator, or the slave owner, swings an ax to kill the slave, she grabs his hand in an attempt to stop him. He turns on her, driving the ax into her brain. Utilizing diction like wrath , hideous , and demonical , Poe creates a grotesque image of carnage as the slave watches the abolitionist cut down by the oppressive slave owner and the woman beat into silence by the oppressive patriarchy. The slave owner entombs the woman s body in the cellar of their home. Unbeknownst to the master, the slave remains with the body of the woman reflecting the solidarity between the Woman s Rights Movement and the slaves. When police come looking for the wife, the slave cries out a wailing shriek, half of horror and half of triumph...from the throats of the damned in their agony and of the demons that exult in the damnation (Poe 701). In this moment, the slave embodies the cries of the thousands of slaves and women not only stripped of their rights, but also robbed of their lives by the violence of the

This is even more important in work involving a continual increase in understanding, such as fields with ongoing research like osteopathy. ( Ncor 2017) Reflecting has become a necessary skill for those in healthcare who want to provide the highest level of care they can for their patients. It has been proposed that reflectionis a more meaningful method of learning than formal teaching. (Jasper 2003) This essay will question that statement; briefly describe how to reflect and will contrast the benefits and drawbacks. Reflection process: In a healthcare setting reflection is the process of critiquing one s experiences by analysing them based on the relevant literature. (Reid 1993) Professor Graham Gibbs provides a 6 stage process that can be followed: (Gibbs 1988) Description simply describe what has happened. It can be useful to describe the experience in the most matter of fact way so that it can be examined clearly. Feelings explain how the incident made you feel. • 34. Importance Of Tattoos In The Workplace Once viewed as taboo, it is not uncommon in today s society to see people with tattoos. From symbolic to decorative, tattoos have infiltrated the culture and have become normalized amongst commoners. Tattoos are no longer how people remember as a kid where they stick on and last for a while, and there is a lot of thought and value that go into it yet alone the pain aspect. With that being said why would one want to get a tattoo just to be told it doesn t meet the requirement of the work field and they most cover it up? When people get new cars and decorate them or even anything that holds value to them, they embrace and boost it so that others can see what they take such pride in and embrace it as well; tattoos are the same way. In recent times, the debate has been whether tattoos are appropriate for the workplace and if so, to what extent. I feel as if tattoos should never hold any negative connotation to any desired workplace as they do not deter away from the tools and performance skills one has to offer to a company. When asking employers about how they feel about the appearance of tattoos, many will reply with adjectives such as unprofessional, unethical, and improper but what they fail to realize is that professionalism lies in the treatment of people, not the appearance of one s skin. Business will often lose clients due to the lack of customer service skill. The quality of the employee is what increases the productivity and development of a company. Contrary to

As aforementioned, multiple school shootings have occurred as well. Popular politicians campaign to silence the voices of the masses, but we refuse to be quieted. Our generation has survived what has been thrown at us, and as a result, we are throwing everything we have back at our attackers. The bottom line is that we, as a generation, are survivors who are managing to keep afloat in the violent seas of today. This is important because this character trait, of being persistent, whether it be to get something petty as most people think, or to advocate change for the masses, will end up helping us change what is happening.

Uniform Commercial Code 2b the A new law will probably be introduced into state legislatures which will govern all contracts for the development, sale, licensing, and support of computer software. This law, which has been in development for about ten years, will be an amendment to the Uniform Commercial Code. The amendment is called Article 2B (Law of Licensing) and is loosely based on UCC Article 2 (Law of Sales), which governs sales of goods in all 50 states. A joint committee of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) and the American Law Institute is drafting the changes to the UCC. The UCC was drafted in the 1950 #8217;s and currently governs the sales of goods but not products like software, which are licensed, not sold.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Article 2B says that the publisher doesn #8217;t have to show software customers the terms until after the sale, when it #8217;s too late to do comparison shopping. By then, the consumer has already started installing the software. The customer is deemed to have accepted the terms of the contract if he/she uses the product instead of returning it. All of the terms of the agreement are now fully enforceable as if the consumer had reviewed, discussed, and signed a paper contract before the sale. Many of the shrink wrap software licenses say that once you break the seal and use the software, you #8217;re releasing the vendor from all warranties. Basically, the software has been sold #8220;as is #8221; and you #8217;ve given up your legal recourse if it doesn #8217;t perform as claimed, damages your computer, or has bugs that lead to errors. • 37. Theme Of Female Autonomy In Beowulf Does the poet use the female characters in Beowulf to reinforce the limits of female autonomy? In regard to female autonomy and Beowulf, it cannot be ignored that many of the women portrayed in the poem were acting as expected of them in the time period, or alternatively acting against it. The two main examples of this within Beowulf are the characters of Wealtheow and Grendel s mother. Both of these women highlight how this society impacts and limits female autonomy, but both women seemingly went down different life paths and here I will examine how this relates to how female autonomy in this world has impacted them. While I only focused on two women in particular, there are many other instances of women within Beowulf being literally sold off, being pushed to the side and remaining quiet and letting the men of the society rule. The characters of Wealtheow and Grendel s mother are two sides of a coin, with one living as a queen but not really existing or forging her own values, and the other being shunned for rejecting the patriarchal attitudes and finding her own rules to abide by. But yet, both of these characters provided enough information on the society to highlight the gross inequality that women or female figures at this time felt despite having only minor parts in the life of the hero Beowulf, and to him (and all the other men) neither of these women were more than a small blip on his radar. This subconscious disregard of femininity on both Beowulf s and the entire society s part only serves to limit the autonomy of the females who existed alongside them and to highlight my points of how it

War of Superiority The tensions discovered in the French Quarter in A Streetcar Named Desire are characteristic of the entire country in that time period. A Streetcar Named Desire tells of struggle between heritage, money, and gender in the early twentieth century. Written in 1947, the author Tennessee Williams had personal relations to these conflicts as he grew up surrounded by them. In one of his works, A Streetcar Named Desire, he addresses these societal problems with the competition between the characters Blanche, a melodramatic romantic, and Stanley, a stubborn realist. The list of differences between these characters could not be longer, but this makes the perception of their similarities all the more significant. This quote also shows that Blanche ranks her opinion over all else, and to her it is not an opinion but a hard fact. Stanley also follows this characteristic in his everyday life. As an Alpha Male type figure, Stanley always meets conflicts with violence and will fight with every ounce of his being for what he believes no matter the consequences. This can be seen by his actions as the man of the house, presiding over Stella and all else that enters the premises. Alike Blanche, Stanley has no cares about collateral damage and if the end justifies the means; he will have no hesitation in doing what he feels is

The first purpose is stated in the title to accept his award of the Nobel Peace Prize. The second intent he had when writing the speech was to reiterate his points that awarded him the honor in the first place. The speech explains his passion for the problem in our world that is the climate change and how much we pollute our earth. His call to actions is for us to choose between two futures. He goes on to explain further by challenging the reader to challenge assumption as well as repetition. Challenging us to question the repetition that would eminently happen if we don t unify and majorly change our actions. His persuasion is made very strong and hard hitting when he says we are standing at the most fateful fork in that path. So I want to end as I began, with a vision of two futures each a palpable possibility and with a prayer that we will see with vivid clarity the necessity of choosing between those two futures, and the urgency of making the right choice now. Reading this quote gives the feeling of being very inspired and feeling empowered. That being said, I feel Gore should have given more concrete action that he proposes we take. He should have said things such as we should stop allowing every person to drive a motor vehicle as much as they please. If he d said something along those lines, it puts a specific concern in mind and helps along the putting the reality of better, healthier world into fruition. He also could have proposed that perhaps every person who owns a vehicle be required to plant a tree once a year. His speech was powerful with lots of drawing of parallels, a lot of analogies, and many accounts of making associations. While he is lacking a concrete and specific remedy for our current situation, maybe it is okay. Perhaps all we need is to see that we do have a choice in how we can influence the world, and the rest is up to us to draw from the inspiration and coordinate our own, personal next move to attain the goal that has been
