Disaster Recovery using AWS -Architecture blueprintsHarish Ganesan
This presentation explores various ways of architecting Disaster Recovery using Amazon Web services (AWS) Cloud The sample architecture element contains Managed DNS servers , Load Balancers and Data replicators , Amazon EC2 , MySQL M-M , AWS EBS ,AWS Elastic Load Balancing, AWS Auto Scaling , AWS CloudWatch and AWS S3
In the first Webinar of the 2014 Masterclass Series AWS Technical Evangelist Ian Massingham dives deep into the Amazon Simple Storage Service, S3. He starts by providing an overview of the high level architecture of S3 and the fundamental characteristics of the service before moving on to take a tour through the various features of S3 including storage classes, namespaces, encryption, access controls, transitions and lifecycle management. He also covers related AWS services such as Glacier and the AWS content distribution network, CloudFront, as well as explaining how you can use Amazon S3 to serve static web content.
For customers with hundreds or thousands of secrets, like database credentials and API keys, manually rotating and managing access to those secrets can be complex and cause application disruptions. AWS Secrets Manager protects access to your IT resources by enabling you to easily and centrally rotate and manage access to secrets. In this session, we explore the benefits and key features of Secrets Manager. We demonstrate how to safely rotate secrets, manage access to secrets with fine-grained access policies, and centrally secure and audit your secrets.
Architecture Patterns for Multi-Region Active-Active Applications (ARC209-R2)...Amazon Web Services
Do you need your applications to extend across multiple regions? Whether for disaster recovery, data sovereignty, data locality, or extremely high availability, many AWS customers choose to deploy services across regions. Join us as we explore how to design and succeed with active-active multi-region architectures. Please join us for a speaker meet-and-greet following this session at the Speaker Lounge (ARIA East, Level 1, Willow Lounge). The meet-and-greet starts 15 minutes after the session and runs for half an hour.
Aurora Serverless: Scalable, Cost-Effective Application Deployment (DAT336) -...Amazon Web Services
Amazon Aurora Serverless is an on-demand, autoscaling configuration for Aurora (MySQL-compatible edition) where the database automatically starts up, shuts down, and scales up or down capacity based on your application's needs. It enables you to run your database in the cloud without managing any database instances. Aurora Serverless is a simple, cost-effective option for infrequent, intermittent, or unpredictable workloads. In this session, we explore these use cases, take a look under the hood, and delve into the future of serverless databases. We also hear a case study from a customer building new functionality on top of Aurora Serverless.

This process involves the formulation of a model to be used in deriving a comprehensive cloud application. In this case, the model-view-controller design pattern will be used. This type of design pattern partitions the logic of the application into three distinct domains that are to be interconnected to provide a working cloud application (Jailia et al., 2016). ...
Cloud Native Computing (CNC) will transform the way we think about application development and delivery in the coming years. The IT industry has reacted by creating the Cloud Native Computing Foundation with the goal to "make the same approach that solved challenging scalability and efficiency problems for internet companies available to all developers". It describes cloud native applications as "systems that are container packaged, dynamically managed and micro-services oriented".
This talk will look at CNC from a engineering and architecture perspective and present strategies how to design auto-scaling and self-healing systems.

from shadow IT to empowered IT-asanka 2014 08-gartner catalystWSO2
Project teams often use shadow IT, instead of the more slower moving traditional IT, to facilitate rapidly changing complex business requirements and quick release cycles. As a result an unmanaged, ungoverned set of IT solutions reside in enterprises without ownership. The risks of shadow IT keeps the CIO awake at night: business continuity to data protection to unmanaged costs are just a few of these risks. At the same time, the smart CIO knows not to wage war against shadow IT because that’s what keeps the business innovating rapidly.
In this session Asanka Abeysinghe, VP of Solutions Architecture at WSO2, will present how enterprises can leverage cloud enabled ALM frameworks to build managed and governed empowered IT. Topics to be discussed include, managing quick release cycles, template driven rapid development, empowering developers to develop, test and release apps in a governed secured manner, and providing internal business capabilities as APIs for application development. In addition Asanka will explain how innovative WSO2 clients are already gaining startup speed, reducing project risk, and enabling new business models by adopting WSO2 DevOps PaaS solutions

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.
Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.
Enterprise Resource Planning System includes various modules that reduce any business's workload. Additionally, it organizes the workflows, which drives towards enhancing productivity. Here are a detailed explanation of the ERP modules. Going through the points will help you understand how the software is changing the work dynamics.

4. Before migration consider
the business value and costs
“Old code has been used. It has been tested. Lots of bugs
have been found, and they’ve been fixed. Each of these bugs
took weeks of real-world usage before they were found.
When you throw away code and start from scratch, you are
throwing away all that knowledge.”

Joel Spolsky
5. “This code is a mess”
is not a good reason to migrate
● ugly code - fix cryptic variables names, mixed
_camelCase/snake_case etc.
● architecture problems - can be solved, one at a time, by
carefully moving code, refactoring, changing interfaces
● performance problems - when optimizing for speed, 1%
of the work gets you 99% of the bang

6. Why migrate?
● Hiring and talent retention
● Tech stack unification
● Leverage other tech ecosystem
7. React advantages
● JavaScript superpowers
○ JSX blends well together with JavaScript
○ your components are functions
○ static type checking (TypeScript instead of PropTypes)
● stronger libraries community
○ Redux, Jest + Enzyme, Formik + Yup
○ React / Redux developer tools
● strict unidirectional data flow
11. Migration strategies
Bottom-up Top-down
Embed React components in Angular
Usually delays state management
layer migration
Replace larger chunks, usually URL based
Two separate state management layers
12. Martin Fowler’s
Strangler Application pattern
Transform - create a parallel new view
Coexist - leave the existing view for a time, so the
functionality is implemented incrementally
Eliminate - remove the old functionality as users
stop using it
Source: https://developer.ibm.com/articles/cl-strangler-application-pattern-microservices-apps-trs/
13. How to apply
Strangler Application pattern
Identify the Bounded Contexts in your application
design - e.g. in an airline application, flight booking
would be one Bounded Context, while the airline
loyalty program would be a different Bounded
Context.
Choose the Bounded Context that is the smallest
and least costly to refactor

14. Micro Frontends architecture
The idea behind Micro Frontends is to think
about a website or web app as a composition of
features which are owned by independent
teams. Each team has a distinct area of
business or mission it cares about and
specialises in. A team is cross functional and
develops its features end-to-end, from database
to user interface.

17. Who is using Micro Frontends?
HelloFresh
“At first, we found development speed to be a bit slow. Since this approach
requires you to own your entire project E2E, the learning curve can be steep. But
after cresting the curve we were able to push out projects like never before;
the new HelloFresh shop, for example, took 3 people 4 weeks to roll out. Our
developers also claim increased confidence and breadth of knowledge after
adopting this approach.”

18. Who is using Micro Frontends?
Ikea
“Today, we are aware that we should normally not have our whole enterprise in one service, and so we
split up the enterprise architecture in smaller services, for example, microservices. However, we are
also starting to realize that we have the same problems with the frontend monolith as we had with the
backend monolith, Gustaf Nilsson Kotte explained in a recent interview hosted by Stefan Tilkov. Using
a micro frontend architecture, he breaks the frontend into smaller parts to allow for teams to deploy
autonomously, thus enabling continuous delivery for web frontends.”

21. Micro Frontends architecture - Single SPA framework https://single-spa.js.org
import React from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';
import singleSpaReact from 'single-spa-react';
import rootComponent from './root.component.js';
const reactLifecycles = singleSpaReact({
React, ReactDOM,
rootComponent,
domElementGetter: () => document.getElementById('react-app')
});
export const bootstrap = [reactLifecycles.bootstrap];
export const mount = [reactLifecycles.mount];
export const unmount = [reactLifecycles.unmount];
22. Summary
● Consider the business value and costs
● Identify the Bounded Contexts in your application
● Make your application more modular, break the
Monolith!
