6. When Will Driving Jobs Vanish?
Long-haul, big-rig trucking jobs will vanish first,
within 1-2 years after self-driving trucks are allowed
on the highways. 2021-2022 is a conservative date
range, and it may happen sooner.

7. Limo, taxi, Uber, and Lyft will take a bit longer. I am
still looking at 2022-2024 before most of these jobs
start to vanish in size.

12. Truck Drivers Eliminated by Self-Driving Trucks
Embark just sent its semi-autonomous truck prototype on a cross-country trip.
The truck drove from Los Angeles to Jacksonville, Florida, with minimal human
intervention. A human safety driver was onboard, but Embark claims the truck
did most of the driving.

13. At 2,400 miles, this trip was about four times as long as
Embark's last long-distance test, which ran between Los Angeles
and El Paso, Texas. The trip from California to Florida took five
days, but that included rest breaks for the human backup driver.
Embark claims a truck driving autonomously the entire way could
make the trip in two days.

14. Since automated vehicles don't need to sleep, and
don't need to obey government restrictions on
working hours, it's easy to see how autonomous
driving could speed up trucking.

15. Uber will buy 24,000 autonymous Volvo
cars in 2019-2021. Nearly every driving

deployed chatbots in the workplace, with an
anticipated 57% by 2021. Companies are using
chatbots as personal assistants, for on-demand
customer support, to mine data, streamline
business processes, recover product information
and to answer employee questions.

21. For example, at Overstock, they have a chatbot
for HR called Mila, that lets managers know
when employees are sick and at Intel, they use an
HR virtual assistant that answers questions about
pay and benefits. As more employees see the
efficiency benefits of chatbots, and AI,
they will be adopted at a more rapid pace.

22. IBM allegedly targeted older American workers
with layoffs, firings and forced retirement to
systematically replace them with younger,
cheaper millennials and overseas workers,
according to a new report.

23. In the past five years, the investigation found more
than 20,000 IBM workers — about 60 percent of its
estimated total U.S. job cuts in that period — were
over the age of 40.

24. IBM, which still employs 400,000 people worldwide,
flouted domestic laws and regulations protecting
older workers from age discrimination by not
providing information on why they were fired,
required them to sign away the right to sue IBM
and converted job cuts into retirements to avoid
public disclosure requirements, alleged the report
published Thursday by ProPublica and Mother
Jones.
