How To Create A Good Hook For A Persuasive EssayHow To Create A Good Hook For A Persuasive Essay
`` Laundry Day `` By Fran Kimmel
Fairy tales tell us that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever
after. Reality is not that simple. Long term relationships force couples to become more acquainted
with each other, include themselves in each others worlds and eventually develop further
connections. However, a relationship can come to an end point and therefore one will try to come
back in the other s life. This type of relationship is remarked in Fran Kimmel s short storyLaundry
Day . The author suggests that getting rid of unhealthy relationship leads to happiness, the author
uses the protagonist s transformation, contrasting characters and symbols.
In the short story Laundry Day Fran uses contrasting characters to demonstrate that quitting a bad
relationship leads to happiness. First, Maxine, the dog represents happiness and Harvey, Gracie s ex
represents unhealthy relationship.
For example, when Gracie is looking at her reflection in the mirror, Gracie mentions that Max
found God in her life (6). When Gracie specifies that particular detail, the protagonist is
demonstrating that the dog has won Gracie s heart. Indeed, Max s pure love has open Gracie s
heart and brought themselves nearer to each other. In fact, the dog is her whole life when Harvey
left Gracie. Therefore, the author uses a dog to show us that leaving behind weak relationships can
cause positive emotions.
Moreover, after Gracie and Harvey little chat on the telephone Gracie said that

High Dopamine Research Paper
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that is extremely important in the functions of
movement, memory, pleasurable reward, behavior and cognition, attention, inhibition of prolactin
production, sleep, mood, and learning (Mandal, 2015). There are consequences of having too much
or too little of dopaminein the body; it can cause several disease conditions such as Parkinson s
disease and drug addiction. According to Dr Anaya Mandal, dopamine is produced in the
dopaminergic neurons in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) of the midbrain, the substantia nigra
pars compacta, and the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus . Basal ganglia is part of the brainthat
controls and regulates movement (Mandal, 2015). It helps a number of functions such... Show more

It is said to be what makes us human because it makes us smart, able to plan ahead, and resist
impulses (Deans, 2011). Since dopamine is a neurotransmitter, it means that it controls
communication in the brain. Chemically dopamine, is able to tell a neuron to fire off a signal or
not, and it can also modify the signals. Dopamine is extremely old it was found in lizards brains
and most all animals reaching the homo sapiens. Dopamine has elevated levels in the left
hemisphere of the brain which is supposedly because of prenatal neurochemical environment.
When a women is pregnant her being upright helps expose the fetal brain to different elements than
other primates, which explains the higher levels of dopamine in the left side of human s brain than
other primates. Over time dopamine has evolved more and more as we have evolved (Deans, 2011).
We get dopamine through eating amino acid. The amino acid is called tyrosine, and through a
chemical reaction it becomes dopamine. If people don t have dopamine or inefficient dopamine it
can cause mental retardation. Too much dopamine in the wrong place can make you psychotic.
Drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamines can cause euphoria, aggression, and intense sexual
feelings because of all the dopamine in the drugs (Deans,

Types of spatial metadata
Spatial information is necessary to make sound decisions at the local, regional and global levels.
Therefore, the amount of spatial datasets being created and exchanged between organisations or
people is increasing considerably. According to a released study by for the period of 2004 2010, the
overall growth of geospatial industry has increased by 11% in the areas of data, software and
services. The spatial metadata in terms of collection can be divided into two groups:
Inherent Metadata information that can be derived through the computer analysis of the contents of
any collection, such as: temporal coverage (e.g. visualisation of the time periods covered or
publication dates); types of items and the number of each; formats of items and the number of each;
example of full metadata content; geospatial and image collections; number of thumbnail/browse
images available; types of geospatial footprints (e.g. points, bounding boxes); geographic coverage
of the information (map visualisation based on latitude and longitude coordinates of items in the
collection)
Contextual Metadata information supplied by the collection provider or collection maintainer that
cannot otherwise be derived from the collection s contents, such as: title, responsible party, scope
and purpose, type of collection (digital items, offline items, gazetteer, etc.), date (creation or latest

Why I Started Working With Dontae
When I started working with Dontae I tried to be open minded and not interact with him with
theories floating around in my mind. I was taught in my undergraduate career that conversations
with your clients should feel natural and because I was nervous to showcase my abilities at a
new placement I did not want say the wrong thing and to ruin my ability to make a deep
connection with Dontae later. In addition I considered that Dontae may not be his true self for at
least a week because he would be new to the program and not know any or many of the other
residents. I decided during the initial intake that although I had read all the faxed documents and
psychiatric evaluations on Dontae that I would speak to him and determine for myself what was
going on for him.
During Dontae s initial week at MTR I observed Dontae s interactions with others and assessed his
coping skills. I introjected myself into what he was doing to ensure that he adjusted well to MTR
staff and residents. I began to formulate some thoughts as to what was happening for Dontae but
tried to keep an open mind about him as a person. Moreover during the course of my work with
Dontae I began by making sure that I aligned myself with Dontae and made sure that he
understood that I was here to help him rather than hurt him. I made sure that Dontae felt like I
cared about him and that he understood that his all around wellbeing is a priority for me. My
purpose for aligning myself with Dontae and creating a working

I will now make my small yearly report on Valmetal.
Concerning total sales, we ve had a similar year than 2015 (more or less 60K), or $34M. Overall,
it can be considered as a loss if the price increase in 2015 is to be taken into consideration. The
Canadian sales were excellent; compared to the United States where we ve had a drop in sales.
Fierce competition and the milk price have been the two factors linked to this decline. In Quebec
and Eastern Ontario, we have increased our sales for more than 12 % almost $1,5M.
Congratulations and thank you all.
Our sales of vertical mixers continue to grow, consolidating our leadership position in TMR
systems, with the large diversity of products that we are offering.
We also have other projects on the planning stages, we will talk about one of them soon, for the
others, there s always next year. We also have distributors with ideas, who are making suggestions

Mich Masala Analysis
In the film Mirch Masala, the movie brings to light a critical point in Indian feminism. The film
takes place in the 1940s in a small village of colonial India. It acknowledges the interactions of
the protagonists struggle due to the power relations in the village. The subedar is a (tax
collector) who travels to villages with his soldiers and order payment of land taxes. Due to their
power, they intimidate the villages and seize women. The subedar who is lustful for women, is
fascinated by Sonbai, whose husband left the village due to his new job. Sonbai is a woman
who works in a spice factory. The subedar is intrigued by her confidence, beauty, and intelligence
which, makes him pursue her. Sonbai encounters the oppressive realities of life for a woman in
India. Rejecting the advances of the subedar, Sonbai is forced to take safety in a pepper factory. I
will analyze the use of the spice red chili pepperas it serves as a powerful image in the film. Red
chili peppers are used as a metaphor that can be can invoke many meanings. Chili pepper in the
movie is used as a symbol of resistance against the patriarchal oppression that the Indian women
face in the movie.
In the beginning of the film, the director makes a point to show red chili peppers that are grown
and are ready to be plucked. Furthermore, a man plucks the chili pepper and shucks it a vase on
top of a scarecrows head breaking the vase. This scene symbolizes that women are seen as a hot
spice . Shroff s writing about the importance of the scene states This image of the luscious chili,
red on the outside, spicy and explosive on the inside, prefigures its role as the chief ingredient in
this narrative and emphasizes from the outset its double meaning the sexual power of the women
and their ability to use their power to resist oppression within the family and society (249). The
chili pepper symbolizes the effect of sexual desires and the portrayal of women.
In the film, the subedar gives an obscene offer of sex to Sonbai. She is so offended that she slaps
him in the face and flees away. Shroff states her power is perceived by the Subedar as an act of
transgression that violates his honor, and takes away from his role of playing God (251). Sonbai is a

Women s Pain Perception in Childbirth
This is a study that focused on eighty three women and examined the effects of cultural and
educational influences on the pain in childbirth. The eighty three women are divided into Middle
Eastern women and Western women. The women ranged in ages from nineteen to thirty eight.
There were thirty people from the Western group and that consisted of women whose mothers
were born in Europe, the US or another English speaking country. There were fifty three women
from the Middle Eastern Group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in Asia,
North African or another Middle Eastern countries. The women were classified by the cultures but
were also classified by their level education. Those who had twelve years or less of schooling were
in the low education group. Those women who had more than twelve years of schooling were in the
high education group. In the Western group sixty six percent were in the high education group.
While the Middle Eastern group only had thirty three point nine percent in the high education
group. In order to perform this study they recorded their information they received from the
procedure. The four measures were painperception, behavioral ratings, extroversion and the
Miller Behavioral Style Scale. Pain perception is a scale ranged from zero to one hundred that is
used to rate the labor pains. Behavioral ratings were used based on Meisles Iticksohn and was
rated from zero to four. A zero meant that no behavior was observed and a four meant

The Blind Side Film Analysis
The Blind Side is an extraordinary film based on a true story. Michael Oher, an African
American teenage boy is one of the main characters. He grew up very poor in the inner city
housing projects with his mother in Memphis Tennessee. He had no idea who is father was, and
his mother was a drug addict. Michael had very little formal education and very few skills in order
to help him learn. It wasn t until Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohytook him into their home and made
changes in Michael s life for the better. The Tuohy family had two kids of their own. A daughter
Collins and a son S.J. S.J was immediately accepting to the idea of taking in Michael, whereas
Collins had a very difficult time. This may be because it was not a part of Collins normal culture.
She saw Michael as an outsider for various reasons. He was a poor, homeless, African American.
The Tuohy s were a very wealthy, high class, white family. Collins worried what her peers at
school would think and worried she would be looked at differently. Over time she did not allow
other people s opinions bother her and accepted Michael into her family. Leigh Anne made sure
Michael knew he had every opportunity to succeed just like everyone else. When she saw his
interest in football, she made sure the coaches knew the best ways to use Michael s skills. Not
only did the Tuohy s provide Michael with a loving and caring home, but also hired a tutor in
order for him to improve his education. If it wasn t for the Tuohy family,

Abstract
In my biology class we conducted an experiment to determine if there was a direct correlation
between the concentration of lead levels in soil and the effect it has on plant synthesis and plant
height. The specimen used in the experiment is a species of plant, Brassica rapa. Seeds of B. rapa
were careful planted within every cell of a cubical that was filled with six different concentrations
of lead which was our treatment group and the control was the cubical with no lead soil in it. Plant
height and temperature were recorded with a thermostat and a mm ruler. The results show that lead
concentration does not have a relationship with plant height except in concentration of 100 mg/kg
and 2000 mg/kg. During this three week experiment, the mean of over a hundred students plant
heights were recorded and all the student s plants showed similar results meaning lead nitrate
concentrations in soil does not affect the growth.

Solution-Focused Therapy History
Solution Focused Therapy: A History, Case Study, and Application Solution focused therapy is a
form of brief therapy that is a relatively new model of treatment. SFT is client centered and focuses
on the solution to a presenting complaint, rather than focusing on the complaint itself, as seen in
most other forms of therapy. The therapist empowers and praises the client as they employ new
thinking about their issue(s), and attention is drawn to both the fact that while the problem is
pervasive, it is not constant, nor impossible to be free of. The therapist takes the role of a guide
and supportive collaborator, and the client dictates what the best possible recourse is necessary to
eliminate the issue from the client s life. The birthplace... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often one session is sufficient. It has been estimated that if three sessions yield no improvements,
then it is unlikely to work and should be referred to an alternative form of therapy (Iveson ,2002).
Generally, the duration between sessions lengthens as the sessions increase. A solution focused
therapist operates on several assumptions regarding the client: problems are maintained through
interactions; there are always solutions to any presenting complaint; there are multiple possible
solutions available; solutions are constructed; the client and therapist can jointly craft the solution;
and the construction of solutions can be explained and modeled (Brandman University,

Research Paper On Carbohydrates
Low carb meals are defined as meals that have low amounts of carbohydrates per serving.
Frequently, individuals assume the lower, the better, but in the case of this form of diet, it is best
to focus on the proper amount of carbs. The reason for this is that carbohydrates are necessary to
the body from the viewpoint of nutritionand health.
To comprehend this better, it is a great idea to discover how carbs are processed by the human
body. Food items like rice, grains, pasta, and bananas consist of substantial amounts of
carbohydrates. When people eat these foods, the starch is converted into glucose. Most of this is
utilized through the body as energy. Excess energy will be changed into glycogen and stored by the
body.
It is important to note that the body has a constant need for glucose. It is also important to note
that carbohydrates are not necessarily bad for the system in all cases. As long as people have
the correct quantity in their diets, this cannot really become a problem. Once again, some kind of
workout is also needed to work off some of the extra carbs in the system. When anyone take in
much more of this substance than their bodies need, some of the excess will be kept as fat and this
is where carbs may become an issue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all carbohydrates are not good for the system. Some can be considered excellent while
others can be viewed as bad. Complex carbohydrates are the good ones. It is because these
carbohydrates are full of nutritional value and also contain dietary fiber. Sweet potatoes, as well

The Victorian era was around the mid to late 1800s and was named after Queen Victoria, who
took the crown at age eighteen in 1837. This era provided women with more rights, though they
still had very few, and many women s rights movements started happening towards the end of the
era. The sexualization of the female body became a common thing, and women often used their
bodies to get men, which did have a downfall because rape was not uncommon. Colonization
became more popular during this time, which increased the use of the English language. Slavery
becoming abolished and Darwin becoming well known, which caused the rise of science versus
religion, are other examples of major changes that occurred during this time period. The writings...

Media Representation Of Women s Sports
When men engage in sports, it is seen and interpreted as an opportunity for them to exhibit
dominance in the masculinity and as an expression of heterosexuality. When women have
traditionally engaged in sports, it has caused commentators to question one s heterosexuality, to
question their femininity, and to almost ridicule the idea of women engaging in a traditionally male
dominated activity. This analysis focuses on media representations of men and women in sports,
and the differences that exist in the way that these stories are covered. This exploration will feature
Canadian based media coverage as it pertains to women and men engaged in hockey.
This analysis shows a changing in the guard of how women s sports are being covered. The
increasing feminism movement in sports with icons such as former MMA UFC fighter Ronda
Rousey leading the way in combination with an increasing in feminine issues being covered by the
media has meant a change in the way women s sports are featured. Though gender still has a major
influence over the coverage of women s hockey and a traditional heteronormative gender role is
communicated at several points of these pieces, the conversation has moved away from being an
exposition on the strangeness of women s engaging in a men s sports to becoming a celebration of
women in sports. What this encouragement does communicate however is the ability of these
women to leave behind stereotypically heteronormative feminine traits and take on the masculine

Washington Organized An Effective Approach Of Gradualism...
Washington organized an effective approach of gradualism among blacks but was disrupted by
militant leaders like W.E.B. Dubois. After reconstruction, the hopes for full citizenship rights were
broken when the government renewed white supremacist control to the South. The government
adopted a laissez faire policy, and the Jim Crow laws brought social, occupation, and educational
discrimination to the American Negro. In 1896, the Supreme Court s decision in Plessy v.
Ferguson strengthened the segregation of public facilities in the South. Some leaders supported
violence, some urged a return to Africa, and most encouraged peaceful means to change the
conditions. Some supported a fight for civil rights, especially the right to vote and others wanted
blacks to become skilled workers. These two approaches are called the economic strategy and the
political strategy. Washington supported the gradualist economic strategy. He wanted whites to
agree to black progress in agriculture, education, and economics. He believed that African
Americans should be able to have some jobs and get some education but did not believe complete
equality was a practical goal. African Americans should work hard for a job, not have it handed to
them. Agriculture was one of the most important aspects to his idea of racial uplift. He supported
education in farming and industrial skills, crafts, and development of enterprise, patience, and
thrift. He believed they would receive respect from whites and gain

Cystic Fibroblasts
Fibroblasts are mesenchymal cells that play an important role in the wound healing process. These
cells are responsible for releasing inflammatory agents that recruit white blood cells to areas of
damaged tissue. Fibroblasts also respond to these chemicals and differentiate into myofibroblasts.
These myofibroblasts are characterized by their up regulated rate of extracellular matrixcomponent
production and their ability to physically manipulate the extracellular matrix. When the wound
healingprocess becomes unregulated, this results in what is referred to as a fibrotic response
(Kendall). As a result fibrosis, or the thickening and scarring of connective tissues, occurs. Fibrosis

Radiotherapy Vs Chemotherapy Essay
In our body we have normal cells that send signals to every cell all the time and our normal cells
obey what the signals are saying. Normal cells know when they have reached their limit and when
it is time to die or to do something to themselves or to others. On the other hand, we have cancer
cells, they override the normal signaling system. For example, cancercells do not stop dividing and
growing when they have reached their limit. Due to this, the cells keep replicating, forming like a
tumorthat is growing. My point is that cancer cells grow and divide in a manner that you are not
able to control, they would invade normal tissues, organs and eventually spreading throughout the
body. Cancer cells lost their control of growth and it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To treat cancer or to remove doctors and scientist use surgery, chemotherapy(drugs), various types
of radiotherapy. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy might be used to destroy leftover cancer

on like the type of tumor and the stage of the disease or other things to take into account.
Scientists and researchers are always trying to find new ways to limit the growth, spread, and

I highly suggest that we need to educate our population with the definition and show them how
cancer cells works. In my case, if it was not for my biology classes I would not have learned how
cancer cells works nor the definition. Cancer cells are really important since they can spread, get
to the point of stopping the function of other cells, killing other cells and finalizing with death or

Human Primates And Primate Behavior

are there other reasons deeper than evolution? How much can we learn about evolution by just

Symbolism In The Coyote
Symbol of the Coyote
The Coyote is a clown in the regular world, and in numerous Native American tribes see the
imagery of the Coyote as that of trickster, shape shifter, and transformer. Legend has it Navajo
never execute Coyote as a result of their conviction that it went with the first man and lady into
the passageway of the main physical world. Additionally, in a similar myth, the Coyote carried
with it seeds of life in order to sew new development upon the new world. This legend delineates
the Coyote as a carrier of life and another birth image.
Boyle s intention to use coyotes to symbolize the United States Mexican border issues is
underpinned by their characteristics that correspond to the Mexican illegal immigrants condition
at that time. Coyotes live in the canyon, a vast, rough and dry area that lacks of foods to feed
them, separated by the circling wall. On the other hand, people in the gated society have more than
enough to suffice their necessities. Simply, these two contrastive conditions are separated by only

Rise of Prussia Essay example
Question:
Analyze the military, political, and social factors that account for the rise of Prussia between 1640
and 1786.
Bree Stanbrough
Due: March 3, 2011
Period 4
The rise of Prussia from 1640 to 1715 was mainly due to the great leadership of Frederick William
the Elector , Frederick William I and Frederick the Great of Prussia. Many military, social, and
political factors led to the rise of Prussia also. The major factor that helped Prussia become a
great power was the growth of Prussia s new army and the territory they took because of this
powerful military. Most of the military factors that led to the rise of Prussia came from Fredrick

Many of the social factors that led to the rise of Prussia were made by Fredrick the Great. Some
even called him The Social Reformer . He made life for Prussians easier by abolishing torture
and corporal punishment.[7] He established religious tolerance and freedom of speech by ending
censorship.[8] Fredrick resettled immigrants from Austria to establish weaving as a major
Prussian industry.[9] He proved himself as an enlightened ruler who reformed Prussia s
agriculture, legal system, industry and government for the better.[10] He added a diversity of
skills to his country by integrating religions into his countries everyday life such as, Jewish
teachers, or Jesuit merchants and bankers.[11] He also purposely set reasonable prices on grain
so farmers and townspeople wouldn t go hungry.[12] Frederick William I also helped socially
unite Prussia by created a strong centralized bureaucracy. This allowed commoners to rise to top
positions in the civil government. So now power rested with the hard working, not with the men
who were born rich or with land. With this change, there was no longer Parliamentary Estates.
This socially reformed Prussia set the foundation for a powerful Prussian empire. Prussian leaders
wanted to establish royal absolutism.[13] Most of the political reform was a change in who was in
political positions of power. Frederick William and Frederick

Essay on Atlantis Intrigues a Teen
Plato much believed that the civilization of Atlantis existed (Writer873). The origins of Atlantis
are written in Plato s Critias and Timaeus (Plato). Written around 350s B.C., the main character
Solon, travels to Egypt and learns of Atlantis by priests (Writer873). He claimed his dialogues to
be true records (Atlantis Subplots). Timaeus explains Atlantis was the island situated in front of the
straits, which are by you called Pillars of Herakles; the island was larger than Libya and Asia put
together (Plato). It goes on further Atlantis was a great wonderful empire which had rule over the
whole island (Plato). Through short explanations Timaeus ends Atlantis defeated and triumphed

The secrets, including the culture, of Atlantis are fascinating in the way Plato illustrates the city.
Atlanteans were far more advanced than any civilization during their time, not to be mistaken
with Atlanteans being more advanced than any civilization during our time. Atlantis culture is
explained in Critias by a great amount within it s pages and it is extraordinary how the people
behaved so civil and orderly back then. The first thing the reader will learn in reading Critias is
Atlantis is ancient, ancient as in 9000 years (Plato). It s no wonder Atlanteans became far more
advanced than Athenians and other neighboring ancient cities. The empire had time to form a
stable society and conduct new ways to make life easier. The other detail in Critias is Athens
was in command one side and fought through the whole war, and in command of the other side
were the kings of the island of Atlantis (Plato). Showing the two cities weren t on the good terms
before the fall of Atlantis. The article Atlantean Culture writes about the belief the people of
Atlantis were dominantly a race of reddish in color, average height, and slightly egg shape heads
and sloped forehead. Egerton Sykes (1894 1983), was not only the creator of the largest private

Western Alienation
Western Alienation
Western alienation is defined as a political ideology or regional discontent, this is rooted with the
dissatisfaction of western provinces in the federal government by representation. This essay will
examine the causes of western alienation in Canada by examining 3 main causes: Inter state
federalism, the senate and the importance of Quebec emerging in late 1900 s. Governments in
Canada have developed relations between themselves, involving government and legislation. Inter
government relations resemble international diplomacy( meetings with prime minister, provincial
premiers, staff and flags). Conducted by government and politicians who have to be sure of the fact
that what they do in inter government relations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The consequences of the senate not being able to reform have been western provinces feeling like
they are left out in the process of decision making, policy making and other legislative decisions
made by the federal government. The senate was envisioned as a legislative body that would serve
several functions in addition to legislation (Lawlor, Crandol,2013). The senate is refereed as the
sober second thought in terms of legislation review but the second thought is rarely concerning the
western provinces. Western alienation is caused by regional misrepresentation which is mainly
caused by the senate. According to Lawlor, some provincial governments have challenged the
unilateral approach by the senate to restructure itself. However the Supreme Court Of Canada will
consider a reference case on the constitutional status of senate reform in November 2013. This
means that the senate may be reformed this year, the western provinces would prefer a senate that
can represent their interests. The senate may need a reform in order to remove the discrimination of
the west but in order to do this, it must reform the whole committee that the senate works with.
The majority of the senate s legislative review is done within it s committee system, as committee s
have always been part of the senate(Ray, 2013). What the author fails to mention is that the senate

Korsgaard Intentionality
In Morality and the Distinctiveness of Human Action , Korsgaard does not agree with the veneer
theory and proposes that human beings are originally acquisitive, but they become moral beings
through the process of living and growing up under the circumstance of society. In this paper, I will
defend this argument. I will first explain in detail what self government is and why it is the most
important to human morality. Then I address two opposing arguments. The first one challenges the
theory of deepest level of intentionality , and the second one used the example of children to attack
the self government theory. I will point out the weaknesses of these arguments to show the validity
of Korsgaard s theory.
Korsgaard introduces the deepest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They claim that her argument fails to explain the case of children, who are not completely, but
only partially responsible for their behaviours and actions. In this case when children might do
wrong and held not responsible for their action since they are underaged, we could not draw the
conclusion that all human beings have the capacity for self government. However, I do not agree
with this view. Admittingly children do have limited responsibility, and people hold more lenient
standard when judging their behaviours, it does not imply children, as a subgroup of human
beings, does not have the capacity for self government or deepest level of intentionality. For grown
ups, the reason why we believe they have the deepest level of intentionality is because, they have
the ability to adopt their purposes. Adopting their purposes requires human beings to judge the
person will need to judge which purpose is morally justifiable, despite there is a urgent and strong
affective state affecting his emotions and feelings. The ability to judge plays a significant role in
the self government process. However, it should be noted that, such ability is gained through the
process of growing under the context of society, learning what is moral and immoral, acquiring
skills of judging rights and wrongs by observing the society around us and interacting with other
human beings. It is trained from the moment

Wonder Woman And The Power Of Watching A Woman Save The
World
Wonder Woman And The Power of Watching A Woman Save The World, by Emma Gray is an
article that argues the emotional impact of having a film about powerful women saving the world.
There is a substantial lack of representation of strong, powerful women in Hollywood movies, until
Wonder Woman was released into theaters. Emma Gray discusses how Wonder Woman fills a hole
that many women never realized they had. She indicates how this film empowered many women
and how it created this emotional outcry for more representation in superherofilms. Emma Gray
uses personal story, repetition, and supporting details to effectively persuade women that Wonder
Woman is a compelling example of how representation can make a large group of people feel
strong, powerful, and beautiful all at once.
Emma Gray uses personal story to create a better connection between Wonder Woman and the
audience. By using personal story, Gray is able to achieve her goal of persuading women about
the emotional impact of Wonder Woman. Before the movie started Gray snaps a picture of a
woman standing in front of cardboard cutout of Diana. The woman told Gray, I m 42 years old....I
ve been waiting for this movie for my whole life. This is such a powerful statement that Gray
included in her article because it shows the value of representation. Her personal story demonstrates
how women can now see themselves as Diana and saving the world alongside with other strong
women. Diana is from Themyscira, which is an

The Battle Against The War On Terrorism
What Now? An analysis of the responses to the Senate Report on CIA Interrogation
The fight against the war on terrorism has initiated a debate in the United States over the use of
torture and advanced interrogation techniques to extract information needed to protect the safety of
its citizens. In lieu of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, government officials believed that using extensive
force against suspected is justified, especially if such force results in the prevention of future
planned attacks. Others reject torture and the methods used by the government agencies, especially
the CIA, as both unreliable and an affront to legal and civilized norms of behavior. In December of
2014, The Senate Intelligence Committee Report on CIA torture, drafted by the bipartisan United
States Select Committee on Intelligence, brought light to the controversy by unearthing the
methods and techniques used to interrogate detainees, prisoners of war, and suspected terrorists.
The findings have ignited strong opposition and outcry among the citizens, critics of the
government, and foreign nations. The aftermath of this report have prompted two important
questions: Should the CIA be held responsible for its actions and face investigations, prosecution,
and full legal action or should the CIA have the ability to act and determine policies they seem fit
to protect the U.S. from any threats and outside forces?

The American Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 s Essay
The American Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 s
The prohibition of alcohol in the United States lasted from 1920 until 1932. The movement began
in the late nineteenth century, and was fueled by the formation of the Anti Saloon League in 1893
(Why Prohibition?). This league and other anti alcohol organizations, began to succeed in
establishing local prohibition laws. By the 1920 s prohibition was a national effort.
The prohibition movement was aimed primarily at closing saloons. Saloons were the brewing
companies place in retail business, selling alcohol by the glass. In the early twentieth century, there
was one saloon for every one hundred fifty or two hundred Americans. This competitiveness forced

The other way to get alcohol was in speakeasies; underground saloons. Oftentimes the bartenders
at speakeasies would not actually mix drinks, but only supply glasses and ice. The only real skill
involved with being a bartender was the ability to remain calm during police raids. Some
considered the bartenders at speakeasies to be cheapening the profession (Cocktail). Still, many of
these establishments are still open, and boast of their activity during Prohibition. There are more
than fifteen bars currently open in Chicago that operated as speakeasies in the 1920 s and use that
fact as an advertisement.
The speakeasies were supplied illegally by gangsters, most notably; Al Capone in Chicago.
Capone spent over $75 million bribing police and politicians in Chicago, but within two years
was earing $60 million a year through the sale of alcohol. Other activities were earning him an
extra $45 million a year. The money that could be made from selling alcohol illegally led to
gang wars, and over 200 gangsters were killed in Chicago in just four years. Bill Thomson,
elected mayor of Chicago 1927, was one of the men Capone bribed. Upon election, Thomson
boasted that he would reopen speakeasies that had been shut down, and allow more to be opened
(Beitrag).
This utter disregard for the law, even by men in such high positions, leads to the overall conclusion
that prohibition was a failure. Although consumption of alcohol is estimated to have

to sites that have previously been occupied by a permanent structure, greenfield to virgin land. A
governmental target has been set for 60% of new housing to be sited on brownfield areas. As the
risk of flooding is expected to increase due to climate change, there can be a conflict between the
desire to build on flood safe areas and to utilise brownfield sites, as many of the latter are situated
in areas known to be at risk from flooding. Another problem is that the greatest need for new
housing is in the South East, whereas more available brownfield land is located in the North due to

A famous English novelist named William MakepeaceThackeray once said bravery never goes out

bravery is even more significant. Rudyard Kipling s short story Rikki tikki tavi definitely illustrates
the importance of bravery. In this story, Rikki, a young mongoose, fights two malevolent and
threatening snakes in order to keep the garden secure. Rudyard Kipling sets this story as well as

Rikki s loyalty to his family by showing that Teddy s father trusts Rikki to be loyal and respect

Rikki is not only a loyal mongoose, he is very curious. Kipling shows Rikkis curiosity when
describing him saying: Rikki is curious and not easily frightened, (Kipling 80). This shows that
Rikki is not scared because he is so curious that nothing frightens him. Rudyard Kipling also
mentions Rikki s curiosity by another description saying that mongooses are naturally curious, and
Rikki is a true mongoose (Kipling 80). This shows that Rikki does take after true mongooses

Advent of Industrialization Essay
The advent of industrialization in the early nineteenth century had wide reaching impacts on
economics, politics, society and demographics. The transition from an agrarian and feudal system
of production to an industrial and capitalistic system brought about many changes to the lives of
Europeans. Some of these changes include gender issues, immigration, medicine, the rise of liberal
and socialist politics, and the rise of some famous political movements. In the following essay I will

The price of beef, tea and sugar had also come down, allowing many middle class families to enjoy
these luxuries in their diet.
The middle class may have seen some positive changes during this time period, but the working
class was not nearly as fortunate. Conditions for the working class were terrible and unsanitary.
Many working class families were crowded into small apartments with dirt floors, no indoor
plumbing, and their general lot in life was quite miserable. I remember our book talking about the
filth from chamber pots, the mold and mildew that grew rampantly inside these dwellings, and the
lack of sanitation. Their diet was also a sad tale. While the middle class could afford beef and
sugar, the working class was forced to subsist mainly on bread. This lack of protein and necessary

The division in quality of life gave rise to a set of political principles and ideologies known as

Euripides And The Classic Greek Culture
The playwright of Orestes is Euripides, who was very popular among the classic Greek culture.
There are not many facts surrounding Euripides because of how long ago he was alive, but it is
known that he may have been the most influential dramatists of his era, though there were many
other great dramatists of that time such as Aeschylus and Sophocles. Euripidesplay Orestes is one
of his more popular dramatic tragedies. Many wonder whether or not that this is a play that
should be introduced into university schooling or brought to campuses to be shown. This will
be revealed by going in depth about the life of Euripides and the play itself, critical
interpretations of the play, and the different productions or adaptations of the play. Euripides
was born around 485 B.C. in Athens, Greece. As stated earlier he was one of the most popular
dramatists in classic Greek culture; of the 92 plays he supposedly wrote,80 of the titles are
known, and of the plays 19 have survived today (Banham). The most famous of his dramatic
tragedies recreate Greek legends and interact with the darker side of human nature which will be
seen in Orestes (Wilson). Facts about Euripides s life are not known for certain, it is said that he
was born into a prosperous family, his father was named Mnesarchus, and his mother was named
Cleito. Euripides, among every other major playwright of this era, competed in the Athenian

[edit] Perceptions of Indian culture
Main article: Stereotypes of South Asians
India s diversity has inspired many writers to pen their perceptions of the country s culture. These
writings paint a complex and often conflicting picture of the culture of India.
According to industry consultant Eugene M. Makar, for example, traditional Indian culture is
defined by a relatively strict social hierarchy. He also mentions that from an early age, children are
reminded of their roles and places in society.[16] This is reinforced, Makar notes, by the way many

The Mental Health Care Of Syrian Refugees
The Mental Health Care of Syrian Refugees and the Improvements Needed The Syrian Civil War
has left millions of Syrian civilians as refugees in foreign lands. Most of these Syrian refugees
have seen or experienced horrific acts of violence because of the war. Many of these refugees are
now experiencing mental health problems because of the things they have experienced. Most of
them have never seen a mental health care professional and the few that have are few and far
between. Until recently the mental health care of these individuals was not considered, but has
recently come to the forefront of the medical field s attention. The mental health care of Syrian
refugees is improving but still has a long way to go. There are many strides being made to treat
and care for their mental health but many still have not received treatment, and this must become a
priority. Improvements Being Made Though their mental health care has not been considered a
priority to very many until recently, some strides have already been to help Syrian refugees. There
are several obstacles being faced by mental health professionals to help the refugees. Many of these
obstacles are cultural, but can dissolve if professionals that understand Syrian culture are involved
(Acarturk et al., 2015, Cultural Sensitivity Section, par. 1). The mental health professionals
involved also need to not only understand Syrian culture but take their values into consideration. A
successful group consulted leaders

The Star by Arthur C. Clarke and the Juxtaposition of...
When dwelling into the explorations about science and religion, one can find it quite amusing. If
science and religion are to continue to coexist it seems opposed to the conditions of modern thought
to admit that this result can be brought about by the so called
water tight compartment system which, even at the present time, is frequently extolled or
considered possible. (Boutroux, 406) Two powerful forces that coexist yet each of them deny one
another, but yet they define one another. The perfect paradox within the world of both, two
opposites that attract and one cannot exist without the other. Most people fail to understand that;
they fail to realize that without science there is no religion and without religion there is no science.
On one hand, science studies and examines every form of life and thing of known existence. On
the other hand, religion studies the pure feeling and knowledge of a higher being, the
omnipresent god who created all that is known. And on the hand that no one likes to see, you
have science that fills in the gaps of religion, and religion that fills in the gaps of science. By
examining a literature work titled The star By Arthur C. Clarke, a work based off science and
religion in itself. I will show you the juxtaposition of science and religion. Some science fiction is
really not much different than any other sci fi story and does not really require the reader or
viewer to think very deeply. However, Arthur C. Clarke s The Star

Persuasive Essay On The Use Of Technology
How do most people view the functions of the world? Is there a consensus on how certain things are
handled, or utilized? Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three
decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that
bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of
Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes.
In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to
communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us.
However, these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously
exists. In my utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it
used. Today, there is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the
minds of daily Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without
directly pointing out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it
is used negatively. Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures
that get the most likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually,
Me VS you . Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and
forms of bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted.
Technology would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others,
would be its one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for
my utopia. Their time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to
ensure face to face social skills, that would be required in my utopia.
Today s economy has re established the modern day classes. The United States is now composed
of the lower class, middle class, upper middle, and upper class. This economy has created a huge
gap in income, and the people. A larger sum of taxes is imposed on those who don t have the
means to pay it; while those who do have the means, pay less. The current economy,

Examples Of Racism In The Bluest Eye
Taelor Doucet
Mrs. Beal
ENG4U
9 November 2015
The Hurt of Internalized Racism
Racist ideology is institutionalized when how people s interactions reflects on an understanding
that they share the same beliefs. However, in The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the topic of racism
is approached in a very unique way. The characters within the novel are subjected to internalizing a
set of beliefs that are extremely fragmented. In accepting white standards of beauty, the community
compromises their children s upbringing, their economic means, and social standings. Proving
furthermore that the novel has more to do with these factors than actual ethnicity at all.
In The Bluest Eye, characters experience a variety of oppressive , that give rise to the never ending
cycle of victimization in both the families and neighborhood. Throughout the novel, the black
community accepts white beauty ideals, for example, judging Maureen s light skin to be highly
attractive in comparison to Pecola s darker features. Racism is also apparent in other indirect ways.
There is a general sense of worthlessness that certain colored characters subconsciously integrate
into their daily lives, even without the constant reminder of their apparent ugliness . For example,
the Breedloves did not live in a storefront because they were having temporary difficulty adjusting
to the cutbacks at the plant. They lived there because they were poor and black, and they stayed
there because they believed they were ugly.

The Snap ( Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ) And...
The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, Children)
programs both have similar jobs. Both programs attempt to help feed struggling families. In the
past SNAP allowed members to purchase food staples and prepackaged food, but a recent bill is
being made in order to address these rules. These changes will deactivate members abilities to
purchase prepackaged food, and has limited them to purchase only food staples. These food
staples included foods such as rice, bread, fruits, etc. While the desired new rules for SNAP are
similar to the current rules of WIC, the bill will also attempt to allow members of WIC to purchase
white potatoes in addition to their food staples. Multiple commodities economic standing will
experience larger impacts on supply and demandfrom this proposed bill s changes and
implications. As SNAP shifts to strictly staple foods, the economic impacts will implement
changes on the supply and demand of rice. In the short run the price of rice will rise and the
demand curve of rice will shift outward. This effect will take place because of SNAP s proposed
limitations. If the members of SNAP are limited to only food staples they will find themselves
demanding more rice than before. This shift will cause an upward movement along the supply
curve. There will be an increase in the quantity of rice supplied in the long run because the demand
will have grown from the limitations placed on SNAP consumers that suppliers will have

Baseball Is A Fan Of Sports
The Atlanta Braves Not everybody is a fan of sports. Baseball is one of the most popular sports
in America. Baseball is basically two teams of nine players batting against each other to score
the most runs in nine innings. In order to make a run, he must hit the ball and make it to first,
second, third, and back home. In some cases, he will be able to run all three bases and make it to
the home plate, and that is called a home run. A home run can be up to four points, depending on
how many people are out on the bases. A batter is somebody that hits the ball when the pitcher
throws at him. In order for a player to be out, he has to get three strikes. As of right now, there are
thirty major league baseballteams and the Atlanta Braveshave a long, storied history which
involves many of the greatest players and managers in the 20th century and so far the 21st.
Baseball is not just about the players. Its takes the coaches, the managers, and the players
working together to make a great team. One if the greatest managers to ever manage the Atlanta
Braves was Bobby Cox. He managed the Atlanta Braves until he retired. He even led the Atlanta
Braves to a world series championship. Now he is oddly remembered for being the most thrown out
manager of all time. Bobby Cox is the only person among all of the players and managers to be
ejected from two world series games. Mr. Cox was unanimously elected to the Baseball Hall of
Fame. Chipper Jones, a third basemen, was one of the best

Hamlet Ghost Is Real Essay
Maybe he s real and maybe he s not, either way, the ghost certainly seems real to Hamlet.
Throughout Hamlet, both the reader and young Hamlet are in a dilemma as to whether or not the
ghost of Hamlet s father is a spirit sent to tempt and destroy Hamlet or if it is truly his father who
has come to reveal the tragedy of his death so that revenge can be sought. On the one hand, it is
rather easy to believe that the general Shakespearian attitudes and assumptions about apparitions are
correct, that they are spirits sent from hell to tempt and wreak havoc on the living. On the other
hand, however, the reader, like Hamlet, cannot help but feel compelled to listen to the ghosts tale
about his death and his lack of peace. Because of the verbal power... Show more content on

So It is clearly possible that the ghost as a father might just be a figment of Hamlet s
imagination, as Hamlet is also the only one who has a dialogue with the ghost and he s the only
one who sees or hears it when the ghost shows up, for instance, in Gertrude s chamber to remind
Hamlet to be nice to his mom. Even before Hamlet finds out that the ghost has been appearing on
the castle walls, he says to Horatio My father methinks I see my father [...] in my mind s eye Has
Hamlet been imagining his conversations with the ghost the whole time? Creating the ghost out of
his wild imagination could be Hamlet s way of dealing with the loss of the father he loved and
idolized. Regardless of whether or not the ghost actually exists though, the spirit perhaps represents
the way young Hamlet is haunted by his father s memory. Even though Claudius insists Hamlet s
deep grief is unmanly and Gertrude pushes Hamlet constantly to just move one, the prince just

Western Influence in China and Japan Essay
China and Japan are two unique civilizations that went through similar, yet vastly different changes
throughout their histories. Their growth and response to other nations differed in many ways in
government, lifestyle, and general well being. One of the main causes for such difference between
the countries is the way the West influenced each region, and the way Chinaand Japan responded to
this influence. China focused more on the idea of being a status oriented society, while Japan was
more goal oriented based. In China, anyone had the ability to better themselves and change their
status through civil examinations given by the government. Western impact however slowly
changed this old age system. Japan s caste system viewed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Life was not idle in China as everyone had something to do. Based on Confucian values, groups
and classes respected each other and their work knowing the value of each. Chiang s father
further demonstrated this by being an honest and generous man, respected by the people of the
village in particular and surrounding districts generally (Chiang 29). By giving honor and
reverence to others, Chiang s father in turn received such respect. His benevolence was noticed
by the community and thus treated him in a higher light. However, relation with other classes
was not always bright, especially in other nations. Chiang describes his encounters in America as
he says California was not so hospitable a land socially for the Chinese as to make on feel
congenial or at ease (Chiang 68). Regardless of being part of the elite class, he was not always
treated with the utmost status. Skin color and national origin created barriers between individuals
and societies in general. Chinese elite s relations with the other classes embodied more than the
typical notion of master and servant. Individuals were respected for their own work and valued
for what they brought to China. Fukuzawa in his autobiography details his relation with the lower
classes in an act of respect and equality. Because he was originally born into a low rank family, he

Marie Antoinette s Life During The French Revolution
During the lifetime of Marie Antoinette, France s most infamous queen, she was known as the
person who claimed, Let them eat cake as many of her own subjects were starving. The queen s life
was filled with extravagance and wonder, but she was no stranger to rumors that would come to
ruin her reputation and end her life during the French Revolution. Was Marie Antoinettetruly a
cruel queen or simply an ignorant young girl who had been given power to early in her life?
Marie Antoinette was born in her home country of Austria on November 2, 1755.
(Biography.com) She was one of the many children born to the Emperor Francis the 1st and
Empress Maria Theresa. (Biography.com) Marie Antoinette had a common royal childhood and
received a good education, although what she learned was different than her brothers because
she was a girl. (Biography.com) As most royals did back at that time, the Emperor s children
were used as bargaining chips and to seal alliances. Empress Theresa was in charge of that, and
arranged for Marie to be married to the grandson of the current King of France, Louis XV.
(History.com) The reasoning for this marriage was because of the feuds between their two families,
the Hapsburgs and the Bourbons. (History.com)
Before the union of the Austrian and French teenagers, Louis XV sent over a tutor to teach Marie
Antoinette. (Smithsonianmag.com) Although it was hard to get her to learn because she wasn t
serious about learning, the tutor realized that she was a

Paintings of the Old Masters
Look at the color red, a color known for its beauty and while it may not be in everybody s
catalogue of beauty, it cannot be denied of its intensity. If one is showed a stunning painting of a
red rose, one of the descriptions that could apply to that paining is beauty: seeing such an elegant
spectacle of nature being emulated on paper can be quite stimulating. Another description that
could be associated with a red rose is passion, as such a color may leave one energized and
spontaneous; however how would one respond if they were told that the paintingof the rose was
painted with blood. Now a painting that once may have suggested the aspects of beauty and
passion, may stir descriptions such as fear, aggression, danger and yet passion as well; therefore,
bringing one to the understanding that Every image embodies a way of seeing (Berger, 142). This
is why paintings should be viewed as a spectacle; hence, this brings me to the painting I was
presented with by John Berger in his book Ways of seeing in which he argues how through
reproduction the modern context of the Old Masters paintings severed them from what they meant
in the time of their production. The painting that demanded my attention was Wheatfield with
Crows by Van Gogh, something that may seem simple at first but is rich with emotion. Through
such a work of art I ve come to understand that paintings are a medium where an artist can illustrate
his words/feelings and express

sula feminism
Feminism and anti feminism in Sula: Right or wrong? Feminism has been in society for
decades. In some societies, we see how women are kept in their boundaries. In some countries
women have to cover their entire bodies in clothing to keep from dishonoring their families. In
most traditional societies a woman is to remain virginal to be considered worthy of marriage. In
America, women were constrained to the household and weren t allowed to work or vote. These
actions were and are considered by some, anti feminist. But, when is feminism taken to far? Has
the act of feminism become an excuse for women to act out because we have rights? Or is it ok to
do so to be considered liberated. Whenever a woman does something negative she is in... Show

Of course some acts of feminism are to be considered acts of heroism. But, are women today
getting the wrong message from what Sula is all about? Sula is not about sleeping around to
prove her worth, or saying what she pleases to be rude. Sula is about the independence in a
woman. Not being submissive to a man, but being your own person. Sula represents the rights
women should have to do as they please without being wild as some women take being a
feminist as today. Feminism in retrospect is about having the same rights as men. But, that does
not make the wrong things that men do ok for a woman to do as well. Whether done by a man or
a woman, some behavior is still not appropriate. Feminism used to be about equal rights for jobs
and voting and important matters. Now, women use feminism and equal rights to perform
behavior that is not ideal behavior for anyone with good morals. As a country that believes in
Christ should feminism even exist? Women who have the wrong idea of feminism give up their
dignity and pride to be considered free. Women have sex freely and men still look down on
them. Instead of being viewed as pure you are viewed as dirty. If anything, the act of feminism
has caused women to be even more degraded today. Women expose themselves in music videos
and pornography. Women are looked at as mere objects of pleasure. If we stuck to the biblical
meaning of a woman, women could

The Impact Of Social Media On American Elections
The Impact of Social Media on American Elections and the importance of 21st century media outlets
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media websites have affected American elections in

  • 2. `` Laundry Day `` By Fran Kimmel Fairy tales tell us that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Reality is not that simple. Long term relationships force couples to become more acquainted with each other, include themselves in each others worlds and eventually develop further connections. However, a relationship can come to an end point and therefore one will try to come back in the other s life. This type of relationship is remarked in Fran Kimmel s short storyLaundry Day . The author suggests that getting rid of unhealthy relationship leads to happiness, the author uses the protagonist s transformation, contrasting characters and symbols. In the short story Laundry Day Fran uses contrasting characters to demonstrate that quitting a bad relationship leads to happiness. First, Maxine, the dog represents happiness and Harvey, Gracie s ex represents unhealthy relationship. For example, when Gracie is looking at her reflection in the mirror, Gracie mentions that Max found God in her life (6). When Gracie specifies that particular detail, the protagonist is demonstrating that the dog has won Gracie s heart. Indeed, Max s pure love has open Gracie s heart and brought themselves nearer to each other. In fact, the dog is her whole life when Harvey left Gracie. Therefore, the author uses a dog to show us that leaving behind weak relationships can cause positive emotions. Moreover, after Gracie and Harvey little chat on the telephone Gracie said that ... High Dopamine Research Paper Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that is extremely important in the functions of movement, memory, pleasurable reward, behavior and cognition, attention, inhibition of prolactin production, sleep, mood, and learning (Mandal, 2015). There are consequences of having too much or too little of dopaminein the body; it can cause several disease conditions such as Parkinson s disease and drug addiction. It is said to be what makes us human because it makes us smart, able to plan ahead, and resist impulses (Deans, 2011). Since dopamine is a neurotransmitter, it means that it controls communication in the brain. Chemically dopamine, is able to tell a neuron to fire off a signal or not, and it can also modify the signals. Dopamine is extremely old it was found in lizards brains and most all animals reaching the homo sapiens. Dopamine has elevated levels in the left hemisphere of the brain which is supposedly because of prenatal neurochemical environment. When a women is pregnant her being upright helps expose the fetal brain to different elements than other primates, which explains the higher levels of dopamine in the left side of human s brain than other primates. Over time dopamine has evolved more and more as we have evolved (Deans, 2011). We get dopamine through eating amino acid. The amino acid is called tyrosine, and through a chemical reaction it becomes dopamine. If people don t have dopamine or inefficient dopamine it can cause mental retardation. Too much dopamine in the wrong place can make you psychotic. Drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamines can cause euphoria, aggression, and intense sexual feelings because of all the dopamine in the drugs (Deans, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why I Started Working With Dontae When I started working with Dontae I tried to be open minded and not interact with him with theories floating around in my mind. I was taught in my undergraduate career that conversations with your clients should feel natural and because I was nervous to showcase my abilities at a new placement I did not want say the wrong thing and to ruin my ability to make a deep connection with Dontae later. In addition I considered that Dontae may not be his true self for at least a week because he would be new to the program and not know any or many of the other residents. I decided during the initial intake that although I had read all the faxed documents and psychiatric evaluations on Dontae that I would speak to him and determine for myself what was going on for him. During Dontae s initial week at MTR I observed Dontae s interactions with others and assessed his coping skills. I introjected myself into what he was doing to ensure that he adjusted well to MTR staff and residents. I began to formulate some thoughts as to what was happening for Dontae but tried to keep an open mind about him as a person. Moreover during the course of my work with Dontae I began by making sure that I aligned myself with Dontae and made sure that he understood that I was here to help him rather than hurt him. I made sure that Dontae felt like I cared about him and that he understood that his all around wellbeing is a priority for me. My purpose for aligning myself with Dontae and creating a working ... The Canadian sales were excellent; compared to the United States where we ve had a drop in sales. Fierce competition and the milk price have been the two factors linked to this decline. In Quebec and Eastern Ontario, we have increased our sales for more than 12 % almost $1,5M. Congratulations and thank you all. It acknowledges the interactions of the protagonists struggle due to the power relations in the village. The subedar is a (tax collector) who travels to villages with his soldiers and order payment of land taxes. Due to their power, they intimidate the villages and seize women. The subedar who is lustful for women, is fascinated by Sonbai, whose husband left the village due to his new job. Sonbai is a woman who works in a spice factory. The subedar is intrigued by her confidence, beauty, and intelligence which, makes him pursue her. Sonbai encounters the oppressive realities of life for a woman in India. Rejecting the advances of the subedar, Sonbai is forced to take safety in a pepper factory. I will analyze the use of the spice red chili pepperas it serves as a powerful image in the film. Red chili peppers are used as a metaphor that can be can invoke many meanings. Chili pepper in the movie is used as a symbol of resistance against the patriarchal oppression that the Indian women face in the movie. In the beginning of the film, the director makes a point to show red chili peppers that are grown and are ready to be plucked. Furthermore, a man plucks the chili pepper and shucks it a vase on top of a scarecrows head breaking the vase. This scene symbolizes that women are seen as a hot spice . Shroff s writing about the importance of the scene states This image of the luscious chili, red on the outside, spicy and explosive on the inside, preп¬Ѓgures its role as the chief ingredient in this narrative and emphasizes from the outset its double meaning the sexual power of the women and their ability to use their power to resist oppression within the family and society (249). The chili pepper symbolizes the effect of sexual desires and the portrayal of women. In the film, the subedar gives an obscene offer of sex to Sonbai. She is so offended that she slaps him in the face and flees away. Shroff states her power is perceived by the Subedar as an act of transgression that violates his honor, and takes away from his role of playing God (251). Sonbai is a ... Tiller III, Corey Biology Department Birmingham Southern College Date: October 24, 2016 Teacher: Jennifer Kelly Abstract In my biology class we conducted an experiment to determine if there was a direct correlation between the concentration of lead levels in soil and the effect it has on plant synthesis and plant height. The specimen used in the experiment is a species of plant, Brassica rapa. Seeds of B. rapa were careful planted within every cell of a cubical that was filled with six different concentrations of lead which was our treatment group and the control was the cubical with no lead soil in it. Plant height and temperature were recorded with a thermostat and a mm ruler. The results show that lead concentration does not have a relationship with plant height except in concentration of 100 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg. During this three week experiment, the mean of over a hundred students plant heights were recorded and all the student s plants showed similar results meaning lead nitrate concentrations in soil does not affect the growth. Solution-Focused Therapy History Solution Focused Therapy: A History, Case Study, and Application Solution focused therapy is a form of brief therapy that is a relatively new model of treatment. SFT is client centered and focuses on the solution to a presenting complaint, rather than focusing on the complaint itself, as seen in most other forms of therapy. The therapist empowers and praises the client as they employ new thinking about their issue(s), and attention is drawn to both the fact that while the problem is pervasive, it is not constant, nor impossible to be free of. • 12. Research Paper On Carbohydrates Low carb meals are defined as meals that have low amounts of carbohydrates per serving. Frequently, individuals assume the lower, the better, but in the case of this form of diet, it is best to focus on the proper amount of carbs. The reason for this is that carbohydrates are necessary to the body from the viewpoint of nutritionand health. To comprehend this better, it is a great idea to discover how carbs are processed by the human body. Food items like rice, grains, pasta, and bananas consist of substantial amounts of carbohydrates. When people eat these foods, the starch is converted into glucose. Most of this is utilized through the body as energy. Excess energy will be changed into glycogen and stored by the body. It is important to note that the body has a constant need for glucose. It is also important to note that carbohydrates are not necessarily bad for the system in all cases. As long as people have the correct quantity in their diets, this cannot really become a problem. Once again, some kind of workout is also needed to work off some of the extra carbs in the system. When anyone take in much more of this substance than their bodies need, some of the excess will be kept as fat and this is where carbs may become an issue. ... The sexualization of the female body became a common thing, and women often used their bodies to get men, which did have a downfall because rape was not uncommon. The woman running away has a child, she was raped by white men and got pregnant, but she ends up killing the child. The poem includes the part of the woman killing her child because if the child had been born, it would have automatically become a slave and have no chance at having a nice life or because she says that the child is too white, which could be that the child reminds her of the men that raped her. • 14. Media Representation Of Women s Sports When men engage in sports, it is seen and interpreted as an opportunity for them to exhibit dominance in the masculinity and as an expression of heterosexuality. When women have traditionally engaged in sports, it has caused commentators to question one s heterosexuality, to question their femininity, and to almost ridicule the idea of women engaging in a traditionally male dominated activity. This analysis focuses on media representations of men and women in sports, and the differences that exist in the way that these stories are covered. This exploration will feature Canadian based media coverage as it pertains to women and men engaged in hockey. This analysis shows a changing in the guard of how women s sports are being covered. The increasing feminism movement in sports with icons such as former MMA UFC fighter Ronda Rousey leading the way in combination with an increasing in feminine issues being covered by the media has meant a change in the way women s sports are featured. Though gender still has a major influence over the coverage of women s hockey and a traditional heteronormative gender role is communicated at several points of these pieces, the conversation has moved away from being an exposition on the strangeness of women s engaging in a men s sports to becoming a celebration of women in sports. What this encouragement does communicate however is the ability of these women to leave behind stereotypically heteronormative feminine traits and take on the masculine ... After reconstruction, the hopes for full citizenship rights were broken when the government renewed white supremacist control to the South. The government adopted a laissez faire policy, and the Jim Crow laws brought social, occupation, and educational discrimination to the American Negro. In 1896, the Supreme Court s decision in Plessy v. Ferguson strengthened the segregation of public facilities in the South. Some leaders supported violence, some urged a return to Africa, and most encouraged peaceful means to change the conditions. Some supported a fight for civil rights, especially the right to vote and others wanted blacks to become skilled workers. These two approaches are called the economic strategy and the political strategy. Washington supported the gradualist economic strategy. He wanted whites to agree to black progress in agriculture, education, and economics. He believed that African Americans should be able to have some jobs and get some education but did not believe complete equality was a practical goal. African Americans should work hard for a job, not have it handed to them. Agriculture was one of the most important aspects to his idea of racial uplift. He supported education in farming and industrial skills, crafts, and development of enterprise, patience, and thrift. He believed they would receive respect from whites and gain ... These cells are responsible for releasing inflammatory agents that recruit white blood cells to areas of damaged tissue. Fibroblasts also respond to these chemicals and differentiate into myofibroblasts. These myofibroblasts are characterized by their up regulated rate of extracellular matrixcomponent production and their ability to physically manipulate the extracellular matrix. When the wound healingprocess becomes unregulated, this results in what is referred to as a fibrotic response (Kendall). To set up for this experiment, fibroblasts were plated on coverslips and incubated for seven days, to reach 100% confluency, in either the presence or absence of allopurinol. After one week the coverslips were fixed with methanol and the first antibody, a mouse anti human asma, was applied onto the coverslip and kept refrigerated overnight. Normal cells know when they have reached their limit and when it is time to die or to do something to themselves or to others. On the other hand, we have cancer cells, they override the normal signaling system. For example, cancercells do not stop dividing and growing when they have reached their limit. Due to this, the cells keep replicating, forming like a tumorthat is growing. The senate was envisioned as a legislative body that would serve several functions in addition to legislation (Lawlor, Crandol,2013). The senate is refereed as the sober second thought in terms of legislation review but the second thought is rarely concerning the western provinces. Western alienation is caused by regional misrepresentation which is mainly caused by the senate. According to Lawlor, some provincial governments have challenged the unilateral approach by the senate to restructure itself. However the Supreme Court Of Canada will consider a reference case on the constitutional status of senate reform in November 2013. This means that the senate may be reformed this year, the western provinces would prefer a senate that can represent their interests. In this case when children might do wrong and held not responsible for their action since they are underaged, we could not draw the conclusion that all human beings have the capacity for self government. However, I do not agree with this view. Admittingly children do have limited responsibility, and people hold more lenient standard when judging their behaviours, it does not imply children, as a subgroup of human beings, does not have the capacity for self government or deepest level of intentionality. For grown ups, the reason why we believe they have the deepest level of intentionality is because, they have the ability to adopt their purposes. Adopting their purposes requires human beings to judge the person will need to judge which purpose is morally justifiable, despite there is a urgent and strong affective state affecting his emotions and feelings. The ability to judge plays a significant role in the self government process. Still, many of these establishments are still open, and boast of their activity during Prohibition. There are more than fifteen bars currently open in Chicago that operated as speakeasies in the 1920 s and use that fact as an advertisement. The middle class may have seen some positive changes during this time period, but the working class was not nearly as fortunate. Conditions for the working class were terrible and unsanitary. Many working class families were crowded into small apartments with dirt floors, no indoor plumbing, and their general lot in life was quite miserable. I remember our book talking about the filth from chamber pots, the mold and mildew that grew rampantly inside these dwellings, and the lack of sanitation. Their diet was also a sad tale. While the middle class could afford beef and sugar, the working class was forced to subsist mainly on bread. This lack of protein and necessary vitamins and minerals would have put them at a much higher risk for disease and malnutrition. The division in quality of life gave rise to a set of political principles and ideologies known as liberalism. The liberal movement in thought, politics, and social constructs can be seen in popular political movements of the mid nineteenth century. If science and religion are to continue to coexist it seems opposed to the conditions of modern thought to admit that this result can be brought about by the so called water tight compartment system which, even at the present time, is frequently extolled or considered possible. (Boutroux, 406) Two powerful forces that coexist yet each of them deny one another, but yet they define one another. The perfect paradox within the world of both, two opposites that attract and one cannot exist without the other. Most people fail to understand that; they fail to realize that without science there is no religion and without religion there is no science. On one hand, science studies and examines every form of life and thing of known existence. On the other hand, religion studies the pure feeling and knowledge of a higher being, the omnipresent god who created all that is known. Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes. In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us. However, these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously exists. In my utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it used. Today, there is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the minds of daily Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without directly pointing out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it is used negatively. Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures that get the most likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually, Me VS you . Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and forms of bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted. Technology would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others, would be its one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for my utopia. Their time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to ensure face to face social skills, that would be required in my utopia. Today s economy has re established the modern day classes.
